Let me ask you does Jeff say Someday Baby Maybe Your Heart Will Me Mine in that song?

That's Sunday night...three hour drive. Damn, if I was really ambitious I could actually make it to this show. LOL!
So you're willing to give the band another chance, Ang?

THAT is great at the end of the live version!
just do it angie... I think its getting close to a sell out... no seats left in the lower bowl, our seats are in row 26 of the main floor... hate upper deck seats too far from the action..

froy wrote:You want the story behind those words?
A Perry admirer sent Steve a card for his Birthday I believe and at the end of the card it said
Someday baby maybe your heart will be mine
That night at the concert Perry sang those words in the song and it became part of the song from that point on
Again another Perry ad lib taken by Augeri and now copied again by Jeff
Not very original Jeff,
[/quote]Who cares. Perhaps Jeff prefers one of the live versions he's heard. If that's the case, it's not surprising that he'd sing it that way. There are live songs from other bands that differ to one extent or another over the studio version and I'm sure, if I had to sing them live, I'd probably sing them closer to that version also.

Its with every song thats the problem
From Born and Raised in Philladelphia to Neil to Journey's on the road again to Someday Baby Maybe Your Heart Will Be Mine
There all being copied
So I guess they said go listen to some live Perry and come in and sing them the same way
Big Problem with that

What you have to keep in mind is that it's just a Steve Perry tribute band, Froy.

I could hear just about any singer doing DSB that way without ever having heard Perry doing it live. Big deal....to Neil
Actually, it's "Neal". Again, this is a bit of a stretch to say that it's a straight copy. He's just finishing up his first vocal on the song and Neal is starting to come in with that first lick. I don't have a problem with this one, either....to Journey's on the road again...
I've never heard Perry sing it this way but have heard Augeri do it. I personally like the original lyrics better so I'll give you this one....to Someday Baby Maybe Your Heart Will Be Mine...
I like this version of the song much better, so I'd probably sing it that way, too.So I guess they said go listen to some live Perry and come in and sing them the same way

BTW- A "Steve Perry tribute band"too funny. I have not heard any Perry songs being performed by Journey on this tour or the last few I've seen. Perry's solo work is pretty much shit when held up to Journey music, imo. I enjoyed Street Talk, but his other solo stuff, mmmm not so much.
ohsherrie wrote:Ok, lets see if I can do a little diplomatic negotiating here. I think the respect that Jeff has for Perry makes his use of some of the Perryisms a sort of tribute to him. Also, since they are playing the songs from the Perry era, the tour is in essence a tribute to that era. You can see that as a negative or a positive depending on your point of view, but the only way the band is going to move away from that characterization is to do something new that the audiences will accept as new Journey music just like they accepted all the new music that was introduced during the 80s.
I doubt that Jeff wants or intends to make a career out paying tribute to Perry so I think something new is on the way. Until then, if the band is going to finish this tour they have no choice but to play the songs that the audience expects to hear and perform them in a way that will be accepted as Journey by them. The next tour in support of a new CD will be the acid test for a lot of fans who don't want to hear another singer do the Perry hits.
