I guess I'm one of those fans who wants to hear 'new and fresh' interpretations of classic songs. If I want to hear the music as I remember it I can watch a DVD or listen to a CD from the 1980s...rather than going to a concert now to hear a watered down version played note for note.

I believe some songs , classics or not, shouldn't be changed while other's arrangements can and should.
Bands like Toto, who are playing their hits together for the 1 zillionth time, tried changing the arrangement. They were bored with the classic arrangement. Rosanna is one of the last hits being changed live. It worked, and it was a new way to play that song with convincement by the musicians themselves.
Back to Queen, Clearly Paul Rodgers is no Freddie Mercury, but his voice has other great qualities, so why not trying new arrangements?

Just shows the state of affairs that JRNY is in when they have there drummer singing this great ballad
I remember the FRontiers tour when this song was a huge hit
When Perry introduced it I tell ya the crowd went ballistic.
It was ear piercing.

Dean is just singing it no magic to go along with it other than gee he sounds like Perry.

It was a tour after the Main Event because they didn't come too South Florida for the main Event because we defiently would of went My wife love Journey, Styx and Reo and we were pissed they didn't come down here. They then announced about 15 dates or so in the fall and they played Boca raton on 9/13/03.

Most people know that I am as big of a Perry fan as there is. Perry will NEVER be replaced (and guys like Jeff have been smart enough to say those very words!) That said, I don't know that Perry in 2006 would sound like the Perry of 1983 when Faithfully was released. That doesn't mean I wouldn't be the first guy in line to buy a ticket to listen to Perry if he ever chose to perform again. I was simply making the point that in my opinion, Deen does a pretty solid job of singing what I think is a difficult song to sing.

:D Thank You SO MUCH! Deen sounds great. Truly amazing that he can play the drums and sing this song at the same time. I wonder if JSS could pull MF off. If so I think it could sound even more amazing with his voice. I do have to give it up to Steve A for doing the falsetto at the end perfectly. I know he wasn't Steve Perry but I am feeling pretty bummed about him no longer being in the band right now. Steve A gave it 150% and was/is ALL heart!

I think he does a great job do not get me wrong
He sang Happy To Give and I was blown away but I could not look at a guy behind a drum kit singing it
I had to close my eyes and was really hoping I would look up and see Perry standing in front of the stage
That is my second favorite JRNY song and I had to have Deen sing it live
I think he sings great
I would rather have him help Perry with the harmonies when Perry comes back.

Dude...

Are you fucking nuts??? When Perry comes back??? Have you been living under a rock for the past 10 years? Steve Perry will NEVER perform with Journey again, and may very well never perform again, period. He isn't getting any younger, and he has seemed quite content to be retired from the lead singing business. The guy has the best of all worlds. From all accounts, he's always been the best guy in Journey when it comes to managing his money. He is still getting money from the existing incarnation of Journey while he sits back and takes it easy. There is obviously still a great deal of animosity between Perry and the other guys in Journey and a whole lot of hurt feelings on both sides of the fence. While I think it's truly tragic that guys who were once such close friends haven't talked to each other in years...it is what it is. You can keep living in your dream world, but some day reality will kick you in the ass. Perhaps when it's 20 years and not just only 10 you'll realize that Perry simply has no interest in being the lead singer of Journey any longer.

As Christine McVie once sang, I tell you:
Who's Dreaming this Dream?
Steve Perry may be back. And this is not a fact first of all.
His voice in 1996 couldn't hold a candle to his voice back in 1983. And this is a fact.
Time is always cruel with man's voices. I expect his voice to have got worse in the last 10 years. But this is not a fact.
Anyway, let's wait and see what happens. In the meantime I'll get in touch with reality.
If this means Journey can and will tour Europe, I will be the happiest man. I will receive what Perry should and could have done in 1996 but didn't. Thanks Perry.

Now seriously. Are you still thinking JSS is a Perry clone-ripoff-copier? After hearing the bootlegs of the last month? Then everything I can say will not change your way of thinking. Better save breath.

Off to Yoga back later,

Then you might expect Perry already finished his work with the band. As he said, he never felt part of the band (in his own words). So why bother? He might be as well a solo artist who's making money out of his "I'm not part of" band Journey. So please tell me why he's releasing Greatest Hits Live on cd, Greatest Hits Live on dvd, Live in Houston 1981 on cd/dvd, remasters of his records with the band while the actual Journey are moving on. It seems like the band is trying to fight it below the surface, but it's so clear that every attempt to recover the Journey name will have something to do with Perry's ghost, or better, Perry's wallet.

Wait I was in Boca in '03 & I don't remember Deen singing ATF & I was by the stage the whole nite. I don't remember Deen singing at all until '04. Maybe I'm losing it but I could swear Augeri sang ATF. Please put up that DVD.

I loved that show. Neal did Black Magic Woman & Oye Como Va too if I remember right. He kicked ass. Fuck even Augeri was good that nite & I didn't even care for his voice.

Just my little 2 cents...the first show I saw this tour Deen sang the ballads & of course he has a beautiful voice. But the 2nd show I saw in Buffalo, Deen was sick & his tech took over, & JSS did the ballads, & they were absolutely amazing! The entire crowd seemed to think so too, myself included, screaming my cheers from the 6th row, lol.

I was sorry Deen was sick (& like I said his voice is beautiful), but to get to hear JSS sing those was worth it, sorry Deen!! lol

The DeTour was their Augeri era prime. Best boot I have of that lineup is from that tour, including Castronovo handling Suzanne.

Too clarify the tours

98 " vacations over"
99 w/ Forginer
01 Arrival w/ John Waite and Frampton
02 think they played the Fla state fair I didnt go
03 they did the Main Event and then a few shows like this Boca one
04 ?? Didnt come to South Fla
05 30 year tour
