OT:Eric Johnson

I don't know if y'all are into his music...but DEAR LORD he can play guitar. Revisiting his Venus Isle album now and listening to Lonely In The Night solo at the end and it's perfect. The guy is flawless.
Now to start a war...I think he's better than Schon. J/K. Styles are WAY too different to compare. He is amazing on those strings though.

Eric Johnson is incredible. I have his "Live from Austin TX" DVD, the one that was filmed on "Austin City Limits" in the late 80s. This was filmed before "Ah Via Musicom" came out and, of course, he does "Cliffs of Dover". That is still, to this day, the best guitar instrumental ever. The guy is technically amazing and also plays the blues with great feeling. His tone is also as good as anyone else, including David Gilmour of Pink Floyd.

As far as being better better than Schon, I wouldn't say that. Neal is more versatile, in my opinion, but they are both awesome players.

Unfortunately, Johnson is a lot like Tom Scholz of Boston in the studio...Too perfectionist. Scholz does one Boston studio album about once every eight years. Johnson has put out, what, like 5 albums in the last 20-25 years?

Cliffs was great...but my favorite off the dvd is Trail Of Tears. Those Harp harmonics he's doing at the beginning...I've been trying to figure out for months. Not to mention the solo at the end.
Check out the Bloom album if you haven't already. It's divided into 3 parts one more to the Rock catagory then the A/C..then the more Jazz catagory. REALLY good album. Doesn't stand up to Musicom but it is worth a few listens.

Well...if you count the "first" album that saw the light of day in '98 I believe and the 2 Electromagnets albums...I think it's about 10 or 11 albums in 30 years.

Another album of his to check out...Alien Love Child. Rain is the best song on there.

Eric Johnson is a hell of a player. I love him.
How I first listened to him? In Steve Morse Band - Stand Up record. I thought "wow if another guitar player is here along with my favorite one, Mr. Morse, then he must be another guitar god or a company record favorite"
The two of them were right. Eric is a monster. His tone is not matched by anyone else.
About who's the best between he and Schon and anyone else I won't get into. Far different styles for each one.
For instance, I believe Schon played a monster fusion guitar line in Jeff Berlin Champions record (along with Mr. Steve Smith), and I never imagined he could play fusion-style.
So far, I love what Johnson did and the style he did it, and I love what Schon did along with his compositions. As much as they play great music it doesn't bother who's a better guitar player or has the better tone.
forgot to say Ah Via Musicom is my favorite record, though Manhattan on Venus Isle is a monster tune , and Bloom is another great record.
