I'm trying to say it's none of our business and none of us seem to be angels!

Yes they were drunk
Steve Perry to this day is in AA as he went over the edge during ROR
Thats why he walked away because he was a blind drunk and a coke user
Im hoping that he does not think that if he goes back to JRNY those old habits will re-emerge
Lets get behind a Steve Perry return JSS is fine doing what he was doing
In fact a saw a tune on YOU Tube with him and Neal that was fantastic

That sure is a horrible thing to say about someone who you want back in Journey isn't it?... let me ask you something?... Why would you want to see a drug user and a blind drunk perform anywhere?... If this is your true feelings about Steve Perry then why do you want him back so bad?... It seems he would be washed up and toothless from everything you claim he did during his time with Journey.

I hope this kind of slanderous crap ends some day... but something tells me it won't....Andrew, do you now see what I mean?

Thats not afrin he was talking about.

As far as AA I have had friends in the AA program in the Studio City area see Steve at meetings.
Big deal he is in AA so what

Okay - that explains a lot...

Just what does it explain?... This is a classic example of the blind leading the blind.

Unbelievable. U know what, even if he was at an AA meeting it doesn't mean he is one. He might have gone to support a friend. I have done that. I had a friend who was an alcoholic sober for 20 yrs & I went to a meeting when he got his 20 yr chip & other times. (He died from unrelated cancer 8 yrs ago.) I'm not an alcoholic but I was at a few meetings over the yrs. There are such things as OPEN meetings where a member can bring a non-alcoholic friend w/them. U shouldn't go making assumptions b/c u really don't know if Steve was there & what he was doing there. & it's none of ur business anyway. I saw some celebs at one meeting I went to w/my friend. I would never think to go round saying they were there. That's private & will go to the grave w/me.

One thing I remember they said there was something along the lines of what happens in those rooms should stay there. It's called ANONYMOUS for a reason.

Indeed. Thank you JourneyRox.

The original topic was nowhere near the neighborhood of AA or drug abuse until someone decided to pipe up with their big information, thinking that because they've been posting here for years, that everyone is going to let it go.

There was absolutely no reason to throw that in.
That was my point. All anybody was saying was "gee they look like they had a few in those videos." Please.

Throwing stuff like that around, whether it's true or it isn't, is b.s. considering that it is well known that the celebrity in question is probably the most private person ever and has never come out with that.

And let's say for a moment that this is true - then don't you think that someone as private as SP would be kind of relying on the ANONYMOUS concept, and not expecting everyone in the room to run and tell everyone they know that "hey I saw Steve Perry..I mean Steve P...at AA!" Jesus.

Again, I wasn't calling anyone a liar or arguing this rumor (because how the hell would I know if it's true or not?), I was just saying there was no reason to bring that up as the conversation had nothing to do with it AND you can't prove it.

I am sure you are right. It is one thing to say the guys looked tipsy/buzzed/whatever in the clip, but to go on about possible addictions, etc. is not right. The privacy of AA should be absolute. Just my .02

Right. I agree, which is why I put in my .02 in the first place. I'm not usually one to get into this kind of b.s., I prefer the happy fun threads like "What's your favorite/least favorite Journey song". But this one time, I felt like speaking up.

In the interest of carrying on, yet still keeping to the ROR theme of the original topic, let's all go see some music together, shall we?

There are some here that think it is OK just to make up stories about people with NO PROOF to back it up,other than just saying "I know this guy and he said", Blah, blah, Blah, Blah, and then you have others who just automatically believe it, and take the information, as the 'gospel truth", just because it was written here on the internet.

Doesn't matter whether he has proof or not
No big deal if he is or was
There is no shame in it but.
It's just not right to discuss it
unless of course Steve himself came up to him and said

"Yea, it;s me...
Can't Stop Drinkin"
Believe me I tried..
Faithfully
so we had to go our
Seperate Ways...
No more
Lovin Touchin Drinkin
Whos Drinkin Now....
Not Steve Perry...
Leaves more time for
Lovin Touchin Screamin

Oooh that Steve, he has such a sense of humor...

Like someone said he could have gone with a friend
and if he is then I applaud him for finding the strrength
each and every day to keep that demon away.
Makes him even more for taking hold of it and beating it.

This post reveals a lot about your attitudes to addiction - and perhaps your ignorance about recovery too.

If Perry went off the rails twenty years ago then so what? He was a ROCK STAR. If he had substance abuse problems then I don't actually find that to be a shameful in the slightest.

The important thing is that he showed the courage and determination to beat the problem...to avoid becoming a "washed up and toothless" wreck. As we know, Perry looks a fantastic shape for a guy his age.

Well, it might explain why Perry felt so isolated within the band...addicts go to extraordinary lengths to keep themselves detached from other people...

It might explain why Perry has recorded only two albums in twenty years...

It might explain why - in recovery - he decided to walk away from the industry twice....why he has 'let go' of all the egotism and attention-seeking that comes with rock stardom...why he is now a more contented and gracious person than he was as a young man...

Perry's behaviour since 1986 has long intrigued and mystified his fans. The addict/alcoholic explanation provides one possible explanation and having had initial doubts about it myself it seems by far the most plausible theory.

Do you have another take on Perry's life and career since ROR?

Slanderous crap is what fuels the fire on this Board. The few that stir this stuff up have never met Steve, or if they had a chance meeting it was just that. Any understanding of the real human being is a figment of these idiot's "insider" imagination. To spread heresay or a lie like that is despicable and totally uncalled for. It isn't just a horrible thing to say about "someone you want back in Journey", it's a horrible thing to say about ANYBODY!

All I could think of when I saw the interview was of how much fun it would have been to get tipsy with Perry on wine. He looks so mellow and fuzzy serious. Cute as hell.

Go ahead and rag on me guys. I had to make the observation.

First, thanks for posting those clips...they looked like they were relaxed & having fun & it was funny (am I wrong here to think that SP looks especially sexy while tipsy?)...and, IF he did have a problem with substance abuse & conquered it then I admire him greatly for that! I have TOO many family members who have not & they have destroyed much. It takes a lot of courage to admit it & take action to correct it.
