I thought it was Soto singing, sure sounds like him ,its no way Elefante,oh yeah and elefante did 2 cds with kansas great singer but was a christian and became more of a producer he has some solo stuff excellent quality just more on the lighter side of rock --that guy could sing what a pure natural talent he had

May as well add to this little tidbit...it was Jan 1, 2001, my partner in Talisman, Marcel Jacob, & I were working on an offshoot album called Human Clay & we wanted Yngwie to appear on a solo for it. We flew out to Miami after being up all night in Lake Tahoe ringing in the new year...for the recording, bartered services for us to appear on his 'covers' album. All 3 of us were flu ridden those 3 days at his pad, I remember it well, sniffling in his living room with a box of Kleenex each, Nyquil bottles & chicken soup watching Monty Python vids & Scarface throughout the days. You'd have thought it was a convelescent home for rockers at his house as the norm hanging with Yngwie would be a case of beer, a bootle of vodka & boxes of pizza! To this day, I wish someone had taken a photo of it...I would leave the guys in the TV room, go upstairs to Yngwie's studio, squeeze out a vocal take & rejoin them on the couch adding to the sound of blowing nostrils (out, not in!).

John Elefante is an awesome singer, and I'll admit, I'd have him over Walsh in Kansas anyday. He is an excellent singer/songwriter....well with a few exceptions on Vinyl Confessions and Drastic Measures. He produced Christian Rock pioneers Petra and lent backing vocals and several of their albums. I have all of Elefante's solo stuff, except for his Mastadon(?) stuff.

Yngwie DID record a video for this song to promote his "Inspiration" CD... Even though Jeff did the vocals on this particular song, Yngwie chose to have his own singer at the time lipsynch to Jeffs voice. Keep in mind this is not the 1st time Yngwie has done this to Jeff.
Back in 86, he has Marc Boals lips-synch to Jeff's voice on his "I'll see the light tonight" video.

He's definitely a better singer than Walsh now but there's no way I'd take him over Walsh in his prime. Very few were as good as that guy was in the 70s and early 80s. He was right up there with Perry, Delp, Gramm, etc.

Anyway, I have all of Elefante's solo albums. "Windows of Heaven" was his solo debut and is excellent. His second, "Corridors", wasn't as good but I really liked his 3rd one also, "Defying Gravity". I haven't heard his Mastodon stuff but I've heard good things about it. As a side note, there are several videos on youtube of a Kansas concert from the early 80s with Elefante fronting the band. It's pretty good stuff.

I personaly think its much harder to play on a scalloped neck... and regardless of Yngwies personality, after all he is a talented guitar player,,, he is hated by lots of people , but if you would give him a chance, you would find out that he has mellowed out alot and he has become a more mature person ever since his son was born..... musically , even though he has released so many good songs over the past 2 decades,I still think his very first album is the best.

Believe it or not, Yngwie has mellowed quite a bit! He has quit drinking and has turned into a 'health nut' and is playing better than ever. He is about to kick off his Asia/Australia tour in November, then to Scandinavia in December. Then releasing a new album later next year.

I always thought they were used to improve finger tapping when you couldn't pick fast enough to keep up with your left hand. Anyhow, I'm not too good at the guitar so I my input wouldn't matter I reckon. I'll have to check out is first CD, thanks.

Yngwie also sets his action much higher than most players. You'd think as fast as he plays that he'd have really low action on his guitars but it's not the case. That and the scalloped neck both making it a little more difficult to play really gives you a good idea just how good this guy really is.

It really makes me feel nauseous to see those videos w/someone lipping over Jeff's voice. That guy is ugly & he just looks too wimpy to have those kinds of power vocals coming out of him especially on I'll See The Light Tonight" (if it's the same guy in both). Why the fuck couldn't Yngwie have put Jeff in the video? What was that about? Was he afraid people would be looking at Jeff not him?

And if Jeff was sick singing Wayward Son, all I have to say is wow.

Mark Boals is an incredible singer in his own right. Take a listen to Yngwie's "Trilogy" album or "Alchemy". Incredible vocals on both of those two albums.

And if Jeff was sick singing Wayward Son, all I have to say is wow.

I actually don't care for Jeff's voice on that song. He doesn't sound bad but it just doesn't sound right, either.

I can't watch the vids on dialup but I don't think false representation is right under any circumstances. Jeff should be featured doing his work.

I think Jeff's versatility is what sets him apart from "just another singer". He has real vocal talent not just "a sound that fits".

The reason Jeff wasnt included in the "I'll see the light " video is because he had already left Yngwie when they recorded it.
And when it comes to "Carry On..." video, Mark was Yngwie's singer at the time,even though Yngwie had few of his previous singers on that album(including JSS and Joe Lynn Turner), but decided to use his own band for the video, hence the great surprise of Master Jeff, finding out about the existence of this Video.

Aaron,, i tried it too,, i was just strange, i need a guitar workhorse,, but not long ago i bought a jumbo fret neck,, sorta a cheap scalloped,, now i want a scalloped,, jsut for fun of course,, its a tough change!!!
