I think Perry was a romantic at heart and probably still is, which is where I come from, which is why many of his songs simply hit me. Interestingly enough, I listed to that one unreleased song where he was very reminiscent of Sam Cooke, and while Perry definitely has the pipes, that particular song from him doesn't do anything for me. Then again, there were songs on Frontiers that didn't do anything for me.

I think the overall difference between Perry and many (not all) great singers is that he seemed to put much more emotion into the songs. That's just my take.

Oh Fred, you're totally on with this. Bless you. He sings the songs so that I can feel the emotion in them, not just hear it, but that may just be a woman thing, I don't know how you guys hear it.

Ah geez AR, you're making WAY too much of this. For the most part JRox and Fred have already said it all where Steve's voice is concerned, but there are a couple things I'd like to add.

First, why do you assume all of us are overweight, and even if we were why does that bother you, you don't sleep with us?(118 lbs here by the way)

Secondly, why is our getting off on Steve's voice(or even his appearance for that matter) any different than the guys posting all these lascivious pics of women on here? At least Steve Perry pertains to the subject of the board.

I don't think anyone who's posted in this thread is against Jeff being the frontman for Journey. We can still appreciate what Steve brought to us during his time with them and as a solo artist and still think he's the best. That takes nothing away from Jeff. If he makes some new music with Journey and we think it's better, we'll say so. Even if it's not better, we can still like it for it's own sound and thank Jeff for bringing it to us.
