Big JSS fan here. But, until I hear some JSS fronted original Journey material, and SS don't count, my vote's still Augeri, by a nose. Just barely.

I'm still not 100% convinced the styles will meld into a familiar Journey sound on original material.

Ok, gotcha, but don't you mean Journey tribute band as they only do Journey songs in concert, no Perry solo stuff??

If they played some material from their last three attempts that might apply, otherwise it's the Steve Perry Years that count.

Yeah, as they were Perry songs, not Journey songs....sweet of Neal and Jon et al to stay on the road constantly, paying tribute to his royal highness....

Yes, NMT. It was sweet of Perry's sidemen to do just that. Maybe their sweet coattail riding gig wouldn't have come to a screeching halt if
#1, they'd've agreed to do the clubs the Perry band was doing on their FTLOSM tour, instead of stooping to do 10-20 k sheds with Augeri and now JSS, and
#2 and above all, someone would've TURNED DOWN NEAL'S INFERNAL AMPS :x

Instead, it cost them gigs as his sidemen.

Perhaps they should incorporate the talking to the coat thing Perry did on his FLOPSOME tour, how cool was that....

You guys make some very good points. I agee a lot of what you write. Silly tho about they being Perry's songs . You know better. It's simply the Steve Perry Years that count, even up til now. Maybe when some new material appears, I'll feel different. I'm not the only one complaining about the old hits paying the bills.

Shoe on the other foot, any problem with Perry's "Journey Tribute + 5 UnJourney Tour '94", with it's heavily Journey-weighted set list?

True, 'swhat it was.
But I liked it then, and would like him to do it again. that's the difference, I/we agree that Perry has as much right as Schon/Cain/valory to be out playing those songs live.

Most Perryheads I've encountered DO like Deen because he sounds like Perry. I've decided that for these people (since they like Jeff as well) it is "anyone but Augeri". It makes me feel slightly bad for SA... :?

Not me AFI. I don't dislike Deen. I just don't want anyone who trying to make it seem as if Perry is still in the band. Perry isn't in the band and he's not going to be. I just want a singer who can bring the Journey sound without imitating the Perry voice. That would be Jeff for me. Perryesque is fine, Perry imitation isn't.

Personally, I'de like to see JSS do his OWN version of the coat thing...from what I've seen him do before Journey, that stage would be on FIRE!!!

AFI, it isn't like that for me......"anyone but Augeri". I didn't mind him in Journey (have the Augeri era dvd and cds, I didn't mind his voice at all. He just didn't do it for me like the combo of JSS and Deen does now. Just my personal preference is all. JSS just seems to have that spark I prefer in a frontman. :) And yes I initially liked Deen because he sounded alot like Perry, but......just love the guy's personality when he plays.......it's very infectious, watching him kill the drums, smiling and bopping away havin' a grand old time back there.

I would be interested to see, if Journey happens to get yet another singer somewhere down the line, if you guys will like him. Honestly, even though you insist it's not about Augeri, you seem to like everyone BUT him for various reasons.

It's something that could only be "proven" if Journey ever replaces JSS.

No disrespect to Steve A AT ALL, but gotta' go with JSS!!
I am grateful to Steve for being such a nice and humble guy, but he helped give Journey back to us.JSS is a total class act as well, and is just what this band needs to give it a HUGE shot in the arm!!

PLEASE let this be the last lineup or at least the last lead singer. Jeff is awesome. We'd do anything he wants us to if he'll just stay with us awhile (pardon the pun I couldn't resist).

Here's what I don't get...hypocracy doesn't exactly apply, but something along those lines....Augeri is brow beaten for naturally sounding similar to Perry tone-wise, yet using relatively few "Perryisms". But Jeff is revered while using very many Perryisms and Perry's enunciation most of the time. I don't have a problem with the way Jeff is doing the material based on the recent boots and know that Perry was a big influence on him and he will naturally sing the songs the way he knows them from memory. I think it could easily be said that he was the one, not Augeri, trying to copy Perry. Augeri just had the "misfortune" of having a natural Perry-ish sound. Again, a disclaimer, I like what I've heard from JSS recently and think he is doing the songs the way they should be done. But I don't feel that he's bringing anymore of his own thing to them than SA did.

That's what they said about Agueri and look what happened. We are in the 5th attempt! :?

I personally think #3 is their lucky number. :D

You're absolutely right, it was goofy. That's what made it so damned funny!! SP is not typically the kind of guy that makes fun of himself (why should he, there's enough of you guys out there to do it for him. Right, Ed... )

I appreciate people who can laugh at themselves. Hell, I crack myself up all the time... :?

#3 WAS their lucky number oh a coupla decades ago. Then luck ran out for a while. First #3 didn't want to do anything. Then he did. Then he didn't again. Or he got ill. Whatever. Journey chose #4 & made a mistake. Fast forward 8 yrs.

As it so happens #5 is today's winning lottery number for Journey.

Clean out the ears & take a little listen. U might be surprised.
