SA vs JSS

Postby kbo » Thu Oct 26, 2006 11:20 am

Just my personal honest opinion. I've followed Journey for a long long time and was elated when they resurfaced with a new singer back in 1998.. Was very skeptical and decided to give them a chance and went to see them in Chicago in 1998. I was totally blown away. Saw them 5 times with SA over the past 7 years. I was totally impressed with SA and thought he brought heart and passion to the music. His vocals although not Perry perfect were good enough to continue the Journey.. I've seen Journey with JSS this summer in CHI and it was a great concert, definately better than Def Leppard. JSS is a THE best rock singer today and a true frontman and performer. His voice is rock solid and cuts through you. BUT in my opinion thought that it didn't quite fit the Journey music. Journey sounded great and JSS sounded great but it didn't grab me like SA did over the years. Maybe JSS is the right fit for the band if they move into a new direction but not the right guy if they continue the nostalgia tours.

Let the bashing begin!

Me too. Love that song, blasted it (along with the rest of LITT) in the car just yesterday. :)

I love Journey but just wasn't into the SA-Journey, & if not for JSS fronting them now, I wouldn't be seeing 2 more shows next month, after seeing 2 already. 8)

Let's not start one of those "SA vs JSS" threads. If I want that, I know where to go to read them !

SA vs JSS

Postby Mandi » Thu Oct 26, 2006 12:16 pm

I have to agree with you, Sallie. Let's please not start the comparisons all over again!!

SA had his run with Journey, its over and probably soon to be forgotten. Those of us who want to recall his time with the band can listen to Arrival and Gens.

JSS is the new frontman, and doing an amazing job!! Can't we just appreciate what we have now and look forward to the great music that is yet to come from Journey?

I understand where this poster is coming from, and I don't mean to be rude, BUT this has been done over and over and over again! Its getting so old!!

Does JSS even want to be the lead singer of Journey. Would he not be better off on his own? His exposure to the Journey/Leppard audiances in the US will only solidify his status as a leading front man.

Here's to JSS, the best thing to happen to Journey since Neal Schon.

Jeff has his own band, Talisman. Jeff is widely known in Europe, but not here. But I am hoping that all can change and soon.

All questions will be answered when Andrew posts the interviews............

I enjoyed a few years with Steve, but soon the shows were dead and stale.. The guys were on life support and it showed..I was so bummed after a show in 04, I walked away and said "never again" Seeing Journey with Jeff in Fresno was like seeing a whole new band..It was amazing..Jeff has breathed new life, energy into the band..He's like a new player on a team the makes everyone better..I'm excited for the next tour..

I felt the same way after the '05 tour, I decided I wasn't even going to spend the money this year, but when i heard JSS was fronting I had to see them, Luckily they decided to add my city in the 3rd leg, cause they had already been to michigan with SA. Seeing these shows must be what it was like seeing them back in the 80's with all the energy and charisma they have been showing...

Yea, you asked and I had some fun...
You shouldn't have given up so easily though :)
You're new and may not know but, this topic is just so tired and played out.
I was serious, you could weed thru 50 other threads and read the same stuff.
So I was just having some fun with you...

And don't listen to some of the banter...
Don't know if you've 'met' Deano yet (great guy BTW) but I am no Deano Wannabe
as ol' Log put it...

Hey Log, you keep puffing your chest making accusations my way...
I PMed you, when you gonna respond?
You gonna keep throwing shit out like that and then not show me a source?
And I'm the one that's an asshole?
At least you actually expressed yourself with words this time.

Well i am NOT.
C'mon folks this is Journey we are talkin about here. You know, the band with melodies to die for, amazing keyboard hooks, wonderful harmonies. You remember the band i mean?
Do you really want the band to sound like Soul SirkUS? Well i freakin don't. That cd was shit. Shit with a capital S. I was expecting something truly amazing but boy was i disappointed or what.
Jeff is a great rock singer. Have seen him live on a few occasions (solo wise). He rocks big time(always has), and he seems to be doing great things with Journey.
They tried to do that new sound and new direction with the last 2 offerings and both have bombed. Red 13 was a pile of crap and Generations was certainly no better apart from a couple of cuts. You know the ones that actually sounded like Journey.

I just don't want the band to turn into some run of the mill hard rock outfit, yeah like Soul SirkUS, but hey Neal has obviously wanted just that for many years now. He obviously wants to play the heavier shit. I would rather him NOT.

I think Soul Sirkus was plenty catchy.
Oh sure, there were no prominent 80's cheesey keyboards, but it wasn't aimless dissonant shredding.
As a whole, the album has stronger choruses than "Generations".
U make it sound like Limp Bizkit fer Christ's sake.

Also, JSS just started his tenure in this band.
Comparing him to Augeri is not only premature, but a complete waste of time.

I believe their next album will be the best thing they've put out since the 80's.
