Sounds like..........

Postby Deb » Fri Oct 27, 2006 12:06 pm

On my way home tonight, on the classic rock station I sometimes listen to in the car, they were playing a Triumph song "Magic Power". A guy phoned in a little after and asked......that song you just played was Journey right? The radio guy laughed and said Uh no, that was Triumph.....you know a little 3 piece Canadian band LOL. The guy on the phone said....darn, just lost a bet with a buddy of mine......he thought it was Journey. It got me thinking of that Journey song "Baby I'm leaving you".....when a friend of mine heard it she could have swore it was Rod Stewart ......I had a hard time convincing her it was Steve Perry.

Is there any bands/songs that you or friends thought sounded like Journey.......or a Journey song that you thought vocally or musically sounded like another band/artist?

I thought the first time I heard "Into The Night" by Benny Mardones (sp) that it might be Steve Perry. To this day, I'd love to hear him cover that song.

Don't know of any right off hand, but my daughter called me not long ago and said Steve Perry was singing a song she had never heard..when I looked up the info for her, come to find out it was Triumph she was referring to...she thought they were Journey... :)

Call to Your Heart by Giuffria. First time I heard, I would've sworn it was Journey.

Are Triumph still around or is Rick Emmett still singing, does anyone know? I remember seeing them many times in my late teens, along with April Wine. I DO remember they were good and had wicked lazer shows in their concert (well, for that time period). LOL that's about all I do remember. Wish I could remember more of the Escape Journey show from May 82 too.........sooooo long ago.

I checked the spelling of the name on the 'net and there were quite a few listings.

I seem to remember that Rik Emmett was recording in the last few years. He has a site, too. Try RikEmmett.com. :)

Same here! Although the lyrics are a bit, um, creepy for a 57-yr-old man. ("She's just 16 years old, leave her alone, they say") :?

The one that made me stop and listen, the first time I heard it, was "For You" by The Outfield. Of course his voice is higher, but on radio background music, it got my attention!

Good point... but at least he was "stopping himself" in YBW, not "showing love like you've never seen" to the 16-yr-old.

Hmmmm, wonder if Perry got the "17" reference from his band mate Paul Taylor, who is the guitarist in this band. :P

Agreed......I loved April Wine....so many great tunes. I think I was in my teens, so had to be very late 70s or very early 80s. Actually they are still kicking I guess, just played a date here this summer.....I didn't see it though, but my sister did.

Awww Larry, I loved that song/video too. Liked his voice. :) I have an old 4-6 hour tape full of stuff I taped off of Muchmusic (Canada's MTV) back in the 80s.....rock stuff. My brother borrowed the tape just to see what was on it (both into the rock music)......and he couldn't believe the stuff I had on there......Scorpions, Kingdom Come, Robert Plant, Journey, Whitesnake, April Wine, Y&T, Cinderella, Skid Row, tons of Bon Jovi, etc.......shit, I really need to put that on dvd before the tape disintegrates.
