Steve Augeri isn't my favorite Journey frontman at all, but he helped out in recording some AWESOME music over the past few years.

Faith in the Heartland, The Place in Your Heart, A Better Life, Out of Harm's Way, Beyond the Clouds, Never Too Late, Higher Place, All the Things, I Got a Reason, Kiss Me Softly, and Remember Me are all GREAT songs and could've earned them some new fans if management didn't suck so much. I'd take this stack of songs up against the filler and even some of the hits of Escape and Frontiers any day.

Heck, I even love Butterfly. I could do without "Believe," "Knowing That You Love Me," and half of Arrival though.

I assure you, playing FITH would go over just as well as obscurities like Message of Love or Dead or Alive.
Song quality is not the issue here.

Bullseye.

Only shows that Journey is about the $ - not the fans.

They have made fools out of the folks on the official board who bust their ass to make JRNY-land look like paradise, weed out anything faintly resembling what really happened, and work around the clock to uphold the band's rep.

But they haven't proven they can write new songs that will grab new fans. IMO, that was the main problem of the last Journey

By the looks of your screen name you are a Van Halen fan. Can you honestly try and tell me that VH isn't just about the money now. Has Van Halen written anything that grabs new fans in their last couple of efforts. I would put Arrival up against VH last few releases. It is simply better. Unless your really into the porn music Eddie is doing now

Speaking of Van Halen, I'd give my left nut to have them releasing albums yearly again, with Hagar or Roth, I don't care. I just had to get that out of the way.

Say what u will about his live foibles, but every studio recording by Augeri was fine.

As much as I love those songs, there is no way in hell they stack up to the Escape/Frontiers classics.

The warm fog of nostalgia has skewed your judgment.
Yes, those songs are as good or near-as-good as some of Journey all-time best work.

No warm nostalgia here...but be serious. The Augeri era stuff is good, but dated. The stuff they did in the late 70s/early 80s was cutting edge.

Higher Place" "Remember Me" "Place in Your Heart" "Signs of Life" all of these stack up against any of the classic output from Perry/Cain/Schon. Anyone who says otherwise isn't a Journey fan.

Agree completely TNC, and I'll add "To Be Alive Again" to that list. Would love to hear JSS do any one of those tracks. Great songs that got no notice because of management/record company/fickle public.

I actually would like to see JSS sing "To Be Alive Again", it's a great song and I'll bet he would breathe some serious life into it.

JSS's "Believe in Me" reminds me ever so slightly of To Be Alive Again. Maybe I'm crazy, but the chorus just sort of does.

Live and Breathe! But if I EVER here them do Butterfly LIVE w/ Jeff... I will have to seriously reconsider my take on this band's sanity :D

The lineup with Augeri rekindled my interest in a band I gave up for dead long before. For that I will always be grateful, despite the final year or two of that lineup. And now we get a supercharged Journey with Jeff fronting it. Life is good. :D

Good point, which makes the Milli Vanili analogy ridiculous. Those two marionettes never sang a note, even on their own records.

Sorry, Deano, but facts are facts...

You're definately a brown-bagging wino, but crazy? I dunno.
Others have said that "Believe in Me" sounds like TBAA crossed w/ a touch of BGTY.
I hear it.

I prefer the term "Middleweight Beer Drinking Champion of the World"

Good, at least I'm not the only one who picked up on that. I also think Jeff sounds a bit like Joe Lynn Turner on that track. Love the song BTW!

This notion that Journey should completely ignore all of their classic music ranks up there as the most idiotic thing I have ever heard in my life! The reality is that the so-called "hardcore" fans (i.e. the fans who visit websites like MR and BT) represent a VERY small minority of the fans attending Journey concerts. As Jeff has said himself on this board, many fans he meets are still shocked to learn Perry is no longer in the band (10 years later, mind you!). Journey would alienate MANY more fans than they would please if they took the "genius" advice of completely ignoring their classic, back catalogue of music. Even though there are a few "voices in the wilderness" who never want to hear Faithfully or DSB again, Journey is smart enough (and this is coming from someone who believes Journey's management couldn't be any less competent) to understand that they couldn't sell out town hall playing stuff off of Arrival or Generations (and for the record, I still think Arrival was superb)!

Actually, watching the vid on you tube last night I thought BIM's Schon riff sounded alot like Never Too Late...
Now THAT is a great Generations tune that could sit comfortably in the LIVE set :D

And it appears as tho he is the host with the most. You make it sound so easy to throw a party together, Av, and with both of you working besides.

Very nice of you to say! :)

Baby is at grandmom's tonight. Lori and I are getting drunk and tying up some loose ends on the B-more party. It is a LOT of work for sure. Just trying to get it right.
