Not even with 100,000 vocal coaches.

No one said anything about live.

I know this comes as a shock to some of you, but not everyone loves Steve Perry. I'm not surprised one person out of the many on this forum doesn't.

Dude...Nobody said the man couldn't have opinions...or even hate Perry. I simply said his logic was fucked up, plain and simple. I can certainly see if someone is describing themselves as being into "hard rock" why Perry's voice would turn them off. That said, I'm not sure why anyone into hardcore music would even listen to Journey, to begin with. Like I said, I really could give a fuck who likes Perry and who doesn't. I just find it amusing that someone articulates an opinion of not liking Perry because his voice was too good. It's actually quite amusing!

I think Vladan mentioned the old show "Solid Gold". Now I don't know if Bryan Adams was ever on that show, but everyone who was on it lipped. They lipped right along to the record version of the song, fade outs and all.

Yes, that is what I meant. The whole show is like that, so many apparant live shows in the 80's are like that. C'mon, all you older people, alot you are children of the 70's and 80's - lived the dream when all the best groups ever were new.

As usual you completely misread my post. At no point did I say that I preferred Augeri's voice because Perry's was better. I said SP had a more 'powerful' voice - ie louder - on the albums, to the extent that often the rest of the band might as well have been backing session musicians for all you could hear of them. I like my music loud and on equal terms with the vocals, but that often didn't happen with 80's Journey. Rarely on those albums do you get to hear Neal shred his guitar the way he does live.

I'm not a great fan of Journey on record, but in a live environment I think there are very few bands that could compete with them.

As to who's better, that is purely opinion and very subjective. In purely vocal terms I actually prefer a voice like JSS, but that's a personal preference and I wouldn't say he was 'better' than either SP or SA.

And I didn't say I don't like Perry. I just didn't like the mix on some of the albums.

Now that is an interesting comment. The reason Journey are so unique and who they are and were when they became big, is because of the vocals, the sound, the loudness put them on the map. Steve Perry is one of a kind, and not a biased opinion but he is and was also a much more complete vocalist aswell. Perhaps other bands might interest you aswell, such as Toto, Survivor, and such. The whole reason why myself and masses botherd with Journey is because of Perry's vocals and the way the albums were produced. I love their live shows on DVD and I would to watch them tour, but I feel their albums and CD's are the best things they ever achieved and ever will. Anyone can play a live gig, and people will always show up. Selling albums is another story. There are just too many bands out there where the vocalist doesn't stand out in the mix, and to me that equals boring, boring, boring, boring. A dime a dozen, and that fine line between sounding karoake.

JSS is totally the opposite to boring. He's loud, he's passionate, he stands out as a frontman should. A lead singer needs to be able to lift the roof off the place, and feed off the crowd and his band mates. In my opinion that is a true frontman, and the main reason Journey are around today. A combination of a great frontman, and great guitar, great keyboards and bass and superb drumming.

Hmm. So the majority of people here (39%) are just FANS. Damn I'm surprised. 27% are Loco Loonies. Only 15% are Loons. The rest are pretty insignificant.

Interestingly enough we have 1 Loco & 1 Dark Ager. But get this, NO trolls. I do not believe that. There are liars amongst us.
