Comparing him to Augeri is not only premature, but a complete waste of time.
I believe their next album will be the best thing they've put out since the 80's.

C'mon folks this is Journey we are talkin about here. You know, the band with melodies to die for, amazing keyboard hooks, wonderful harmonies. You remember the band i mean?
Do you really want the band to sound like Soul SirkUS? Well i freakin don't. That cd was shit. Shit with a capital S. I was expecting something truly amazing but boy was i disappointed or what.
Jeff is a great rock singer. Have seen him live on a few occasions (solo wise). He rocks big time(always has), and he seems to be doing great things with Journey.
They tried to do that new sound and new direction with the last 2 offerings and both have bombed. Red 13 was a pile of crap and Generations was certainly no better apart from a couple of cuts. You know the ones that actually sounded like Journey.
I just don't want the band to turn into some run of the mill hard rock outfit, yeah like Soul SirkUS, but hey Neal has obviously wanted just that for many years now. He obviously wants to play the heavier shit. I would rather him NOT.

Soul Sirkus was NOT Journey. JSS with Journey....well.....is Journey, Big difference. Schon will let his geetar sing Journey...there's Cain....I mean its Journey. And Believe in Me has Journey written all over it!

What is your fav Journey Album ??
kbo wrote:Just my personal honest opinion. I've followed Journey for a long long time and was elated when they resurfaced with a new singer back in 1998.. Was very skeptical and decided to give them a chance and went to see them in Chicago in 1998. I was totally blown away. Saw them 5 times with SA over the past 7 years. I was totally impressed with SA and thought he brought heart and passion to the music. His vocals although not Perry perfect were good enough to continue the Journey.. I've seen Journey with JSS this summer in CHI and it was a great concert, definately better than Def Leppard. JSS is a THE best rock singer today and a true frontman and performer. His voice is rock solid and cuts through you. BUT in my opinion thought that it didn't quite fit the Journey music. Journey sounded great and JSS sounded great but it didn't grab me like SA did over the years. Maybe JSS is the right fit for the band if they move into a new direction but not the right guy if they continue the nostalgia tours.
Let the bashing begin!

It could be!
Remember, Neal's licks for "Faith in the Heartland" and "Out of Harms Way' were initially tossed Jeff's way, before Neal ultimately gave them to Jon to toy with.

Steve Augeri is more in line with Steve Perry's sound, though I in no way consider him to be a soundalike, while Jeff is more energetic and brings an edgier more rock-oriented sound to Journey. Either are capable of the job and I have no favorite between them.

Well, even though it didn't find its way onto Sirkus, "Believe in Me" was done by Schon/Soto and was very, very, very Journey-sounding.
One of the first red flags that something was afoul in current-day Journey.

Really...from what I've read, people (I guess the "Wigglers", but who knows) have remarked how much more 'audience friendly' Augeri was. I took that to mean he was moving around more on stage. The videos that I've seen from SP lead me to believe he was all over the stage, but just not down on the edge of the stage, touching the fans. Is that accurate?? Of course, when I saw Augeri at Nissan Pavilion a few years ago, I don't necessarily remember him being too close to the edge of the stage either. I kinda think SP was probably more intimidated by the huge crowds that loved him so much.
Oh, and Lula...loved those Nikes!!!

Perry was NEVER intimidated by crowds at a show. You need to remember, he played Football stadiums, not hockey arenas or ampitheatres. Perry was so much better a showman than SAugeri. The Wigglers just say they like him better because A) Perry isn't around anylonger, and B) Perry was not as accessible to fans. He was indeed like Elvis. Neal and Friga would hang around and meet fans, and Perry would hi tail it out of town in his motorhome, banging Sherrie as he raced down I-80 towards Denver.

Actually, that's kinda what I meant. But do you think it was because those large crowds so close made him, I don't know...nervous, or that he really just didn't care about the fans. Everything I've read leads me to believe he is such a private person, and I guess I just assumed he was uncomfortable being so close to that many people. Hell, he even had a bodyguard at the WOF ceremony from what I read.

As for Augeri, the first time I saw him from the 20th row, I thought he was a little boring.
After that, I managed to get seats in the first few rows and it's like night and day. Augeri really made you feel special.
We called a friend during Feeling That Way and he took the cell phone out of my husband's hand and sang to my friend.
