What the hell does this mean, the Journey type of guy??

Maybe Jeff is too masculine?

He also has a songwriting chemistry & history w/Neal & maybe that gives him more of an equal footing than Augeri ever had or perceived he had, if u know what I mean. Jeff has a soulfullness to his voice in the same league as Perry did although not in a copycat way. He has that power & richness to his pipes that Augeri just lacked. Also, Jeff never gave up music. He kept on trying. He had success in many ways but not in the US, his home, where he still really wants it. He hadn't gotten to the point of giving up on that yet. He might have thought about it. In fact, his new Talisman lyric notes suggest he did think of throwing in the towel once or twice. But it was just a fleeting thought. He still believes it will happen for him. Just fronting a classic rock band singing 80s songs isn't enough for Jeff. He'll want to make his own songs w/the band & put his stamp on it. He created a band w/Neal before Journey & he has a lot of respect amongst musicians even if he wasn't a household name to us yet. Therefore, he's not going to just "go along". He's going to want to inject himself into the creativity that ensues. He won't sacrifice his 20+ yrs of singing just to front Journey playing classic songs. He'll do it his way & put Jeff Scott Soto & everything he is into new songs that come out. He'll pump up Neal & Jon. He already is & u can hear it in the boots. He's what they always needed. I'm not sure they would have seen that in '98 if they'd met Jeff then. I think they wanted a follower then. Jeff has the "oomph" they need & I think they know they need it now.

I agree with ya JRox, I got that impression too, right from the start........I think he has the balls, like Perry, to push back if need be.

I'll second that. :D Jeff can put the fire back in Journey if he's allowed to.

I hope ur being funny. I love Mickey. But fronting Journey, no way.

I'm totally serious Mickey has a great voice

Mikey Thomas is more wimpy than Perry, and possibly more full of himself.

Do you know that for a fact or is that your personal opinion????

Personal opinion, a few years ago I picked up Mickey and the so-called "Starship"--his backup band, he being the only real member of Starship-- at the airport in Knoxville, TN and drove them to Bristol Motor Speedway for a show, and back again. Road manager and band were all really cool, Mickey seemed to think he was the shit. I heard the same thoughts from others. The Journey guys were much cooler and just regular guys, glad to talk when I've spoken to them on a couple of occasions. Not so of Mickey, even though he barely has a career left, playing low profile shows even a several years ago...but I should give him a bit of benefit of the doubt as I made no effort to speak to him, never really having been a fan. Talking about the vibe he gave off more than anything.

JSS.

Perry didn't catch flack from the fans for replacing all 12 minutes that Fleischman was the lead singer.

Anyway, oh yeah, how can people say they didn't like Augeri for whatever reason, then still go on to say they have respect for him? How do you respect someone you don't like?

I heard the same thing from a guy who has booked them at a venue here in FL. He said Mickey hates the fans, hates doing the shows, but he has so much alimony that he puts up w/it. He does 100 shows a yr & has a min. price he charges. Then some agreement about the take at the door. He cares less if he gets that tho. He just comes, does his thing, & gets the hell out of there as fast as he can. He has a mile long list of demands about what he wants & is very exacting down to the shape of the ice cubes & cloth his towels must be made from & their color. Definitely a primadonna.

All that being said I caught a show a coupla yrs back & it was great. I was in the front row & he was not fan-friendly at all. He was just doing his thang up there in another world. The guys in his band were great very nice & stayed afterwards to chat. Mickey took off as if someone was chasing him. I met a coupla the band guys outside the gig before the show not knowing who they were. Very down to earth. Good show tho & worth catching. Mickey still sounds (& looks) great.

We did a show with Starship at Savannah's St Pat's festival, I think in 2003, which Savannah is very close to Mickey's hometown of Rome (I think)...I had heard rumblings that he was a bit of a prima donna, but at the show we all just kept our distance. After our set and before Mickey went on, I shook his hand and asked for a picture, which he was pretty gracious about, then he mentioned they had done a show in Mexico once with a Journey tribute (LA's Escape, maybe?)...His keyboard player asked me to go into the St Pat's day masses and track him down a beer, which I graciously declined.

The next day I found myself alone in the hotel elevator with Mickey for a few floors!

I thought his voice was unreal for his age. Never been a huge fan, but he did a great job. All I could think was, good God, if I had to travel around the country at his age to make a living, I would go batty.

Yes, heard Thomas can be a bit of a tool, but I continue to like Starship.
What lead singer of any band of note doens't have a rep that precedes him, however just or unjust?

Starship actually did what I wish Jrny would be able to do which is a recent rerecording of their greatest hits...some of them are better than the originals, some not but it's a good novelty.

I don't think SP would ever roll w/ that though.
