What jerks people are. I hate when bands just play the singles. Drives me nuts. If I'm a fan of the band, I wanna hear it ALL. No wonder they only play the "dirty dozen". You hear Neal at one point go "We're sick of playing the dirty dozen" and most of the crowd boos. Lame.

Well, this was the first show, so no one would have seen it yet, but I agree with you.
Being the first show, I think they were being a little experimental. Personally, I would have loved it, but for the casual fan, they went too far.

This is the perfect example as to why Journey can't play a lot of new stuff.

The first show I went last year, the crowd was talking over Ross and I couldn't hear what he said, and most of the crowd were still getting their beers.

But Red, do you actually think the casual fan reads the press release and researches the band before they go to a concert.......just saying. I consider myself a casual fan of Elton John, enjoyed the hell out of the concert and have to admit Yes (right or wrong), I wanted to hear the hits.......and I didn't read the press release or tour information. I devour that info for my top couple favs.......which makes us more than the casual fan.

What a waste not to have this guy sing more than 2 songs in concert or not be on the new cd. I saw them last year late october and Deen didnt sing it was a huge letdown had to be my least favorite concert.The reality was there were hardly anyone at the concert ,that show they had closed off the grass section(never have i seen this before) plus tons of seats were empty-----it was too much Jon Cain not enough Deen C wish i had gone to this show. Thanks for the boot its was

I really didn't get the impression that the crowd was bored during the pre-Perry stuff.

It seemed to be the 3 Generations songs in a row that killed it.

It was the first show and nobody had heard these songs before. Butterfly was excruciately long (6 mins) and it didn't help that Augeri sonded pretty rough.

U2 usually releases a record, gets it on the radio and then tours to back it up after people have heard the songs.

Regarding the "casual fan" issue...I went to see Clapton on his Cradle To The Grave tour, all the publicity made it clear he would be performing old blues stuff, not Layla, etc.
I believe tickets, press, etc spelled out the it was an evening of the blues. People bitched that he didn't play his hits. My opinion, if people are too stupid to find out what the deal is, screw 'em. The DL/Journey tour, & Main Event Tour, obviously GH tours. "An evening with" is likely to have stuff that was not hits. They got a three hour show, and were bitching about it...
Also, someone wrote a casual fan becomes a die hard fan by hearing the greatest hits, casual fans aren't likely to become hard core fans at this point imo, if they were going to, they'd have been converted 20 years ago. Make that 25 since ROR would have turned them off for sure.

I agree with you, but i wasn't a new song when the guy made those comments, they were on there 3rd new song in a row at the first show where no one had heard these songs. I just think they should have spread them out a little more. Also, the crowd may have been more into it if Steve sounded better.
