A plea for a "change of tone" on the board!!

Postby McNeil » Thu Nov 02, 2006 8:12 pm

Im starting to get the impression , after reading a few recent posts and pm's that the tone of some peoples postings has become "darker" over a period of time. I really think its the tone of the board that rubs off on people..it doesnt encourage any polite, or friendly discussion..Im personally gonna take a long hard look at my self on here, and Im gonna start afresh... so would excpect others to come halfway on this..unless they really like the angst here, and I suspect that one or two really do... so..this is everyones chance to "calm it right down" Im doing so right from now... its just Journey discussion, and respecting everyones views...lets all do the same please

sincerely

I would welcome a lighter mood around here and I would definitely welcome a change of approach from you McNeil.

That said - thanks for the post and the sentiment.

Here's what I think - the last 12 months have been incredibly tough for Journey fans. But the tide has turned and the line-up out on the road right now is making so many people happy and winning over new fans and old fuss-pot's alike.

So we should be taking a leaf from this band's very own book. After all, there is a very bright future ahead for this band and I can't see why the forum tone should not generally reflect that.
Of course, before anyone jumps in and says they don't want this forum to be a group-hug-hold-hands-and-show appreciation type board.

No no no....that's not what I want either...Journey has a complicated history and that continued to this day...but there is a better way or arguing your point and McNeil's post and comments proove a better way is possible.

I think tension has been building and will die down once the band state their intentions.

I think that eye roll was posted in good faith...
The problem with message boards and the Net is that some posts read a lot harsher than they manner in which they were written/intended. You can't make the sarcasm, or the tongue in cheek aspect obvious at times.

Perhaps. But I'm willing to take the post on face value and I think everyone else should also - while posting to confirm they too AGREE!

Andrew u know I think the world of u. But honestly have my posts caused u many problems? Have his?

U know this guy stalks me in threads I'm in & hijacks them. U know he stalks others too.

Call me a skeptic but he needs to prove himself before he can be taken seriously by a lot of people here.

I agree with you on that one Andrew. I have to say that what's really pissed me off in all this hasn't been the whole Deano going on about SA thing - yeah that bugged me a bit, but the bit that's really pissed me off here is the guys not saying what they're doing and the debate going on for 4 months when it's been pretty obvious.

I'm sure the tone will lighten a bit once it's all out.

Thanks for the post JR. But as stated, I'm going to take McNeil on face value and perhaps you could do the same.
Yes, I am well aware of past problems. I do not want them to continue and will delete any posts between you two if they do.

Fair enough for me. He's the one who starts them w/me & others. If he stops, problem solved.

Hmm. It might be kinda interesting to see a bright, happy & dare I say, even friendly, macca. Time will tell.

Listen we're spending far too much time on who does what and what is said, I say some stupid things 98% of the time but I'm only pissing about and it makes a few people laugh. I love it when Macca goes mental now (didn't before) so other than the porn pics keep it up everyone, hate, love, like but most of all laugh it off. It's great fuckin' fun on here most of the time. But listen Andrew even fuckin' NIG is getting in on the Euro trash now...address it dude :x
Best day of the year for me yesterday.....special offer on Journey back catalogue £6 for each of the remastered CD's, bought 4 and guess what, the shop owner is doing a deal on the SP reissues, which are also going to be £6. How do they make any money, that's what I want to know :?

Shit...Even I knew Nig was paying homage to Dean. Did you not notice the quotation marks around his original post that you referenced? Lighten up people! This is the internet, not the real world! For what it's worth, I definitely think having a board where people are free to express themselves without getting ripped from pillar to post would be a good thing. I'm all for anything that fosters open and intelligent discussion. As long as Andrew promises to keep away all the wiggle wack jobs, I'm a happy man :)

We all got reinvested in the action here because of "Tapegate" and Jeff joining the band. New people were coming onboard with new points of view. There was so much happening and it was fast and furious for a few weeks. Then when there was no longer a daily infusion news and we were impatiently waiting for something from the band, we were still hyper but nowhere to channel it. Some invented other various sources of entertainment to keep the action going. The Pics, Download and karaoke threads were fun for everyone. Then even that got a little too calm and things got more inventive and some of it didn't appeal to everyone. Add to that the fact that "the cat was away" and we were anxious to hear what he'd found out for us. Things got out of hand.

When we get the interviews, Dean's pics and the news from AR's party we'll have some new stuff to talk about and I hope everyone will be back to join in.
