Sorry I don't agree. I have several boots w/Rolie if u would like to compare.

brywool wrote:As for what Augeri was doing, well "the show must go on" and he did the best he could. I'd rather hear this boot than the first ones with JSS any day of the week.

Again I disagree. I think Jeff's early boots are better than this. But that's my opinion.

Augeri was definitely having problems, Duh. Tell us something that hasn't been talked about every day for the last year. Doesn't mean he sucks and is shit and is a fool. Means he was having voice issues.

I didn't say he is a fool. I didn't say he's shit. However, I do think he sux & I do think Butterfly is a shitty song. Again, my opinion.

Let it go.

I hadn't heard this boot before. I was reacting to it listening for the 1st time. I have never heard him sound this bad. How is that me not letting it go?

"Listen to Open Arms" from the same show-Flawless by the way.

Again, I disagree. It is anything but flawless to me.

"Lights" also was great.

Sorry, but I thought that was terrible too. But again, u & I have different opinions on this. That's ok. We're individuals.

but you take it so personal and just spew this garbage like it hurts you personally.

I was reacting to what I heard & yes, it did hurt me personally. It hurt my ears.

The crowd booed because they said they were playing new stuff. Not because of his performance or Butterfly.

Did I say they booed b/c of his performance on Butterfly?

Maybe it was because they spent the first hour listening to the obscure stuff from the pre-Perry albums with dopey lyrics about volcanoes, etc...?

FWIW, I like a lot of that early suff. But again, u & I have different opinions.

just because a singer is having problems doesn't mean that they once weren't great and that the suckiness blows their previous contributions away. When I first heard JSS with Journey. I thought he sucked with a capital S. But I'm still giving him a chance because I hear improvement every time I hear him. I think he'll be fine. With Augeri, I heard him for years where he was great. Now, he's not. Doesn't mean he's shit. Same goes for Perry.

So what ur saying is people should not post their opinions? Sheesh why not? This is a forum for discussion is it not? Are we all supposed to agree w/everything the band does & say it's great? I believe there's an official Journey fourum that is pretty much like that. U might feel more comfortable there. Here, we tend to say what we think. Sorry if that's not right for u.

I think Jon does an admirable job singing Rolie's parts, I'm glad he's willing to do it as some are my faves. I hope Jeff is open to some of the duets, mainly "Feeling That Way/Anytime," my all time favorite. The first half of the show is what I'm interested in, "Of A Lifetime" is also high on my list. It is unfortunate that the great performances are clouded by the bad vocal performance; this tour was one to be added to the vault. Maybe as Journey moves forward they might be willing to bring some of the rarities back out. I'm lobbying for some Evolution stuff.

Oh but don't they need a trial run of that in Hollywood, FL first? :D

God, I love that song. Would just love to hear Jeff do it too. Can he learn it & do it by Tues? Sure he can. Does he hear us caaaaalllin' him?

You're right, somebody else did, sorry about that. I mixed my responses up.

No, I don't think that at all. I think everyone should post their opinions, but I see no reason to be so over the top shitty about it. You're right I guess. Just seemed really vitriolic.

IF the vocal performances were good here, this would've been, hands down, my favorite Journey boot.

Yeah ur right. That's me. Sorry. I did say "fool" there. Ok point taken. I was wrong (& I do admit when I am). I was just really really pissed off w/how his voice on that boot sounded.

RE: Open Arms- He doesn't miss a note!

I just listened again. I have to disagree w/u. Listening just quickly here's what I caught. He's off on the 2nd syllable of "sin-cere", on "are" in "here u are by my side", the 1st "arms" in the 1st chorus, on "here" in "here I am" 1st chorus (he gets it in the 2nd chorus), way off in "arms" in "with open arms" in the 1st chorus (he gets it in the 2nd chorus), "livin" in "livin' alone", "wantin'" on "wantin' u near", on "now" in "so now I come to u" in the 2nd chorus, . I could probably go on if I listened to it again.

Maybe I hear differently than u or I'm just more familiar w/Perry hitting the notes. I don't know. But this is what I hear.

Funny, but come on...

I'm a passionate woman. What can I say?

Sorry. I was full of vitriole listening to that boot. I was really really mad. These songs mean the world to me. I'm mad when anyone butchers them. I work in a bar/restaurant that has bands play live every night of the week (almost) & we have classic 80s bands that butcher Journey music. I get just as mad. I have to hold my tongue rather than rip them off the stage sometimes. I tell 'em afterwards what I think. Some agree w/me, some get angry. I'm a passionate woman. Sorry.

Is it him missing notes, or him singing different notes than Perry sang? I know what you mean though that we have the originals so ingrained into our consciousness that anything else sounds wrong...

To me, they're off, some of them flat. I really don't want to listen to it again to see which were flat. I'm no expert. Jeremey or Nora would be better qualified to say what exactly is wrong w/them.

See, I don't hear Flat, I hear different notes, but still good. I've heard Perry do this worse than this particular recording before. Some of the 83 boots... oy!

I get ya. I'm the guy in the cover band in the bars. Only do one Journey tune though and we only do it once in a while...

JourneyRox wrote:Thanks for the boot. Um did Augeri sing? Sorry just got thru listening to Disc One & he doesn't show up on there AT ALL except to speak.

EDIT: OMG just got to Feeling That Way. This is THE absolute worst ever version of this song I have ever ever ever heard. & it's one of my favorites. Yuck. Cain channel Rolie? Not in a million lifetimes. But frigging Augeri sounds like crapola. Cain sounds much much much better than him? WTF was Augeri doing? I used to have an ounce of pity for him. Now I wanna crucify the fucker for ruining this song & hurting my ears. He shoulda stepped his ass down right there, right then. Fucker is croaky, straining the hell out of his always thin lousy-assed voice, flatter than a pancake, unable to hit any note & sounding like a squeakie toy for cats. This is disgraceful. I'm hopping mad. Oh fuck it gets worse. Anytime. Shuddupayaface Augeri. What the fuck is that caterwauling of "Anytime"? Damn I'm glad he did shut up. How how how could this band not have fired him for sounding this way? They had the BEST. Ok I gotta get off this soapbox. Holy shit Butterfly. A shitty song to begin w/& he croaks the fuck out of it. He SUXXXXXXX. Is it any wonder the crowd boos them? Fuck I'm booing sitting here at home. I think I'll turn off this crap boot. Unless it's Deen. He's the ONLY saving grace.

Deano, we owe u more than we realize. Way more. Thank u for breaking this & making this band get rid of this lousy wailing flat voiced screeching fool.

I have always liked Augeri, so I am not going to get into the discussion about how he sounds, etc. I just wanted to say that this post by JourneyRox had me hysterical. You have quite a way with words, JR. Like I said, I don't necessarily agree or disagree with your assessments, but damn, the way you said them made me laugh. Thanks for that!!

Imo, Perry at times changed the way the songs were sang live more than Augeri ever did, and that if he had sang the songs here exactly like Perry, the criticism in this thread would probably be that he was imitating Perry...
Some criticism of SA's performance here could have been stated without what I felt were personal insults, that said, there's been times I could have stated my opinions about Perry without being insulting toward him.
