VH Touring w/DLR, w/o Mad Anthony!?

General Intelligent Discussion & One Thread About That Buttknuckle

There's been some question as to whether bassist Michael Anthony is on board for the rumored Van Halen reunion tour next year, and he's not doing anything to clear up the confusion. Anthony has posted a long message on his Mad Anthony blog about some recent shows with Sammy Hagar, his appearance last week with the Van Halen tribute band the Atomic Punks, and how he's set for a New Year's Eve (December 31st) gig with Hagar at Hagar's Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. However, there was no indication about what, if any, involvement he'll have with David Lee Roth and Eddie and Alex Van Halen, who are said to be looking at a run of shows in 2007.

Eddie Van Halen has said harsh things about Anthony. The issue has never been explained, but it might stem from Anthony's continued involvement with Hagar, whom Eddie also dislikes

Sammy and Michael are not "allowed" to sell tequila and hot sauce based on their fame from VH????????????? Granted Michael is not known for anything else, but Sammy was already a pretty big name. But to say they cannot benefit financially from their fame is ridiculous! They were a PART of something, they contributed, they helped build that fame. EVH is delusional...

Exactly their points as well. The sum total of the parts are what made them great, not their individual star status. Even in Eddie's case. Technically he is a one trick pony as well. I have seen him in a very uncomfortable place between some peers at NAMM show concerts. There are only so many places for the hammerons, elephant and horse noises.

However, I must say that if they should need a bass player that everyone could respect, and do everything Mike did and more, they should look at Billy Sheehan. And, if Eddie gets too drunk and can't play, Steve Vai could step in. OMG....wait, that is my favorite version of DLR band (sans Gregg Bissonette

I can't see Eddie ever letting someone as talented as Billy Sheehan on the stage with him.

Those issues aside, I'm fired up about this bit of news! Thank you Andrew :!:

This cannot be billed as the original VH without Anthony, plus Roth needs him as a back up singer! I think mngt will argue the point of Anthony needing to be in for it to be a proper reunion. How in hell can Eddie want to tour with Roth who he has real issues with and not Anthony. This tour will be just a big money maker and the fans will love it see you there!

No, I think not. While I cannot think of VH w/o M.A., Van Halen is Eddie and Alex. Everyone else was a hired gun, technically. Eddie has stated to guitar industry friends of mine that he will not set foot on stage with Sammy and Michael again. They had no right to market themselves as the other half, or sell hot sauce or booze by using their fame aquired by playing in Van Halen. That's his opinion.
The big reasons he is setting foot on stage with Roth is in the double digit millions.

Who HASN'T Eddie said harsh things about in the last few years? Let's face it, Eddie's brain is saturated with Smoking Loon wine 24/7. He spouts a lot of shit nowadays. After seeing him with Hagar in 2004, I wouldn't pay a dime to see him with DLR.

Eddie will forever hold a place of respect in my heart as the best guitarist that ever lived. However, that Eddie is no longer conscious - he's unconscious, intoxicated, and under the influence of alcohol. Unless he gets into some serious rehab, he's going to die soon folks. Just look at his damn picture below - it looks like he has aged 15 years since the year 2000:

This dude needs some help and fast. Alcoholism of this nature is a fatal disease.

Maybe the best way for a die-hard VH fan to cope with all this is to start drinking 24/7 and jump on the train to try to enjoy the ride no matter the outcome :?:  *sigh*

Face it folks. Many of us will go see this reunion just to witness the trainwreck. You have Ed, who is psycho and delusional. Then you have DLR, who is delusional and just as crazy as Ed.The you have Alex whos a family man and keeps to himself. Now Ed is claiming that his 15 year old son is gonna be thrown into the mix.Even if MA isn't gonna be on tour, we will all go just to watch this thing implode like it has many times before.Just like the last show of the '04 tour, where Ed smashed his guitars, and started saying shit about Sammy on stage.

As a fan of VH, I would rather them perform one time at the hall of fame ceremony and then call it quits.A perfect ending instead of the carnage that will eventually happen on a tour.It happened with Pink Floyd and they ended it on a high note.
