Unbelievable... flaming is illegal now

Postby jabber » Wed Nov 08, 2006 4:23 am

 You can get jail time, even.

Annoying someone via the Internet is now a federal crime.

It's no joke. Last Thursday, President Bush signed into law a prohibition on posting annoying Web messages or sending annoying e-mail messages without disclosing your true identity.

In other words, it's OK to flame someone on a mailing list or in a blog as long as you do it under your real name. Thank Congress for small favors, I guess.

"If President Bush truly believed in the principle of limited government (it is in his official bio), he'd realize that the law he signed cannot be squared with the Constitution he swore to uphold."

Why start now?

I've heard it all now, this is ridiculous! :x

So this assh*le has seriously nothing better to do than worry about whether people griping at each other on the internet, so much so that he's signing in a law against it?

So...how many did we lose in Iraq last month?

I guess there were a few to many jokes about Bush and Jerry Falwell online. He couldn't send the Secret Service after the ones he couldn't find. If I'm not mistaken it really was Falwell who got this ball rolling with a lawsuit a while back.

I think this might all stem from the Andrew/Joe Elliott online dilemma.

Way too much info there. Yes lets give out our real names and while we are at it lets disclose our locations so one day someone you disagree with drives by your house and does a drive by or better yet they brake in your home and stabs you to death. :? WTF is Bush thinking :?

I was thinking that this thread was about Flaming Homosexuals. It's good to know that the Prez is worried about faceless attacks on the internet, vs. something REALLY important, like gay rights.
