Wow what a show. I was out of my mind tonite. Jeff was so so so incredible. If you haven't seen him yet & still think he doesn't sound Journey enough, go catch a show. He is SO Journey, that he makes Journey rock. I can't even come close to describing it properly. Neal was on FIRE. Jon never played so well in any show I ever saw. Yeah, they rock. Jeff makes it happen, trust me. I'm a Perry loon.

When he did the "Cupid draw back your bow" bit during IBAWY, I realized Journey will be just fine w/o Steve Perry. & if you know anything about me, that's saying A LOT.

Message of Love was unbelievable. OMG I had goosebumps.

& the way Jeff sang all these songs well, it was amazing. His energy, his style. Wow. Now I saw him in July on his 3rd nite w/the band. It's not the same. He masters these songs & he makes them look every bit as easy as Perry did. He hits notes like you would not believe. & he holds them as long, maybe longer than Perry. No, I am not kidding.

Sucky crowd, not sold out even for the Lipps (ooops I mean Lepps). But by the end of Journey, everyone there was on their feet dancing, having fun. That was because of Jeff & the energy he brings. I'm positive of that. I was talking to some women who knew that Journey toured w/o Perry in the last few yrs. They said they were amazed that last yr "the singer" sounded so perfect b/c he hadn't before that. But THIS singer (JSS) was the energy of Perry that this band needed. People were just excited by Jeff. I've never seen that in people I've talked to at a Journey show in the last 8 yrs. But everyone was psyched up. People were talking about it in the smoking area (yep, sorry, I smoke). They were surprised Journey wasn't headlining. So was I. One woman said when she closed her eyes during IBAWY, she thought she heard Perry. I never thought I'd say this, but .... I'd have to agree. Altho as she said, Jeff has the energy & spice of Perry, but he's very much his own man too. It's not Perry, but it's something totally special.

For the first time in my life at a Journey show, everyone I met loved Journey. No one was wondering where Perry was, thinking the guy singing was Perry, etc. Everyone was going, who is that guy, he rocks. & yes, Jeff rocked the freaking house. I spent a lot of the break giving JSS education to the people I met. Everyone wanted to know more.

We stayed for a bit into the Lipps (I mean Lepps sorry) but man was it boring. When you could hear Joe, he sounded bad. Then he sounded so perfect for Rock On, but you could barely see him, especially not at the beginning & end. Photograph, the next song, he was back to sucking again. Am I paranoid or is Joe lipping?

I doubt I have pix. We had seats too far away (on the balcony) & none came out anything but blurred. That Jeff guy just moves around too much :-) Oh & man does his hair grow fast. Wasn't it really short in July?

I was hoping to meet the band but something was wrong with our passes as they weren't specified as preshow or aftershow. By the time the box office figured it out, it was too late they told us & the preshow was over. Oh well. We still got to enjoy the show anyway, but I would have loved to have met them. Maybe next year?

I didn't write down the set list. I was just too high on the show.

This is great news... You know I remember there was a discussion about Journey breaking out again by doing commercials or some other kind of thinking "outside the box" and wouldn't you know, I got my latest issue of Vanity Fair and there's John Mellencamp smack dab in the middle of this giant spread/article about the music scene... The way the article was written and so forth made him seem totally relevant again!! I wish Journey with Jeff could catch a break like that...

Loved your review, too, JR... :)

Did he hit "the note" during Neal's Wheel in the Sky solo? I've yet to hear anyone other than Perry even attempt it much less hit and hold it.

Why can't you give credit to DL instead of trying to morally equate them with the band that they are touring with? Just because DL is touring with Journey they are forever going to be accused of also lipping? Leppard is not and never was a band that was known for perfect soaring vocals. They survived on great hooks, riffs..etc... (example, I don't love Die Hard the Hunter because of Joes vocals, I love it because of the guitar work between Clark and Collen, I would guess that's how most feel) Why the need to attempt to elevate Journey by tearing down Leppard. If what you say is true, Leppard would have been demoted to opening much like Bryan Adams was demoted on Leppard's last tour. And yes I have seen the show, once in July, and a few weeks ago in Grand Rapids. I found that Journey only sounded like Journey during the choruses when Deen would kick in. Jeff voice was much improved over the July performance though.

JSS hit "the note" (during Neals solo) on the Hollywood Bowl recording of WITS.....

And, btw, Im not sure what show you saw at GR, but im pretty sure Journey sounded like Journey all night long...

I couldn't of put this in better words my self. Saw the same show in July and that show was nothing compared to the show last night. I never sa the guys all so reved up and ready to rock. Jon actually moved alot along the stage. JSS made him sprint all the way acroos the stage at one point. It was great.
Set list was awesome. Message of Love, IBAWY and Where Were You made it back to the set list. GReta Great GReat show.

One small point my wife brought up was as good as Deen is on OA and Faithfully she thinks they shoulkd be sung out front since those vocals are so amazing. She liked Deen singing them but she said she was watching JSS all night and would of loved too hear him sing those songs.. she said it was a woman thing.

I though DL was ok Joe sounded a bit rough at times. Theres stage was cool but I was not that impressed with them, though I was able too hear them better this time. In July we were 2nd row right infront of the speakers and it was way too loud. We had seats last night 1st row of the balcony and the sound was great. I am becoming a big fan of Vivan Cambell.

All in al a rocking journey set that seems too e getting better. JSS did say inly 8 more shows too go and we all get too go home. So I bet they are ready for some rest.

Peeps are raving about IBAWY....may be time to work a few more ROR #s for headlining shows....recommend ICHBY, Pos Touch, Once You Love Somebody, Suzanne.

Just saying, Niggy, NMT. You guys can put your plugs in for these #s...

What note are u talking about specifically? Do u mean the series of notes Perry did where he sounded like an instrument? Yes, Jeff did that. Perfectly. Jeff hit every single note all nite long perfectly & w/absolute ease. His voice is amazing. He makes it seem so easy & he dances & runs all over the stage at the same time.

JRedWingFan wrote:Why can't you give credit to DL instead of trying to morally equate them with the band that they are touring with?

Honestly, I wrote this while I was tired, having just come home from the show. There was no moral equation. It was just a stream of consciousness about how I felt. Don't read so much into it. Take it for what it's worth.

JRedWingFan wrote:Just because DL is touring with Journey they are forever going to be accused of also lipping?

Uh no. I've never accused them before & it had nothing to do w/Journey. I didn't even know they'd been accused of it before.

JRedWingFan wrote:Why the need to attempt to elevate Journey by tearing down Leppard.

I really wasn't. I was just typing my thoughts, that's all. Ugh. Why is it that no one can say anything here w/out someone reading waaaay too much into it?

IMHO, they should be.

Well I've been a Journey fan for 26 yrs & to me they sounded totally Journey. I'm really not sure how or why we heard things so differently. I don't think u can get any more Journey-sounding unless u put Steve Perry up on the stage.

I must say that hearing JSS did "Cupid" in the song trobled me a little. That is very very Perry. It was Perry's ode to his inspiration and it was almost 'trademark' for Perry to do. But to hear the praise coming from such a Perry fan I guess JSS pulled it off as I am sure he intended...tribute to Perry AND Sam.

I thought Jeff was gonna sing Faithfully especially when he started harmonizing w/the piano in the beginning of it. I was all excited that he was gonna sing it. I actually felt disappointed when he turned it over to Deen. I like Deen singing but I really wanted Jeff to sing the "big" hits upfront. Maybe it is a woman thing.

We were in 201 I think that's the other side. No didn't have ILAA tix. The passes weren't marked for preshow or aftershow & the girl in the box office couldn't figure it out. By the time she got someone who could, the preshow was over she said.

Like mentioned in my first post, I didn't know anything about SA and tapegate before last night's show. But when Def Leppard came out, the first tune was a little rough (especially Joe's vocals). I chalked it up to it being the first song and the levels weren't right etc. But as the night went on I actually had thoughts that some of the vocals were now "too clean". I don't know, maybe he just warmed his voice up and they adjusted the levels but you definitely got the idea that there was a lot of "production" going on.

Did he hit "the note" during Neal's Wheel in the Sky solo? I've yet to hear anyone other than Perry even attempt it much less hit and hold it.

I'm looking, it's time for me to get a new computer 'cuz this piece of shyte shuts down when I play the videos. (I'm holding out the the Apple) But damn I got some good videos! Problem is..my arms get tired holding my camera up there and they are all small clips except IBAWY. Maybe I'll post that so you can see what it looks like from the front row.

Oh yeah please. I get tired of not being able to dance & sing when taping. Otherwise I'd have taped the whole damn show. But I wanted to enjoy the hell out of it.

Exactly! It's hard to stand still that long or not yell while taping.

I know there are several versions of IBAWY out there but this is a different perspective. The quality isn't as good as it is on my computer.
