Ok, I wanted to give this one its own thread:

Andrew said:
It's called sarcasm. Monker can waste the next 10 years of his life posting here if he wants, but bugger me if I can work out why he posts here at all. Hasn't said anything remotely positive or original in, well....ever!

Back a number of years ago, this forum was a bit of a refuge from the annoying BS of BT and some of the other forums. There wasn't a ton of talk but at least it was about Journey. At least it wasn't buried under a ton of, "blow it out your ass and light it you uncle fucker!" replies, either. It was a nice little pond of clear water with a few happy fish in it.

Then the VH1 forum closed and the pond scum from that forum came to this forum. It wasn't a very nice thing to see the waters muddied with the sheer hatred of Journey and Augeri. So, I suppose battling it out with HOTS, and OhSherri, and the various incarnations of Joe wasn't positive talk about Journey? Funny how I was never critiqued about my posts back then.

BTW, I never had a problem with the PEOPLE posting...it was their words of sheer hatred for Journey that I was responding towards. Well, except for Joe, cuz he's psychotic..seriously.

I became a bit subdued, because I figured there were enough people acting like me that I didn't have to post much. Yes, I am serious about that...I would read a thread and think of what I would want to say and then I'd see at least a couple other posters already making my argument for me...so I wouldn't reply.

So, the pond scum caused the fish in the pond to mutate and it became more of a "fuck you if you don't agree with me!" attitude in the threads. Andrew even closed the pond and drained it a few times...but it didn't help. This continued for a while until some of the fish listened to bootlegs so often that they mutated themselves and they also hated Journey and Augeri and thought the tapes all sounded the same, or whatever. So, the forum blew up with even more Journey/Augeri haters with a "Fuck you" attitude.

Then the pond became so full of muck, and scum, and shit that there wasn't even any room for water. So, the fish fucked some squirrels so they could mutate and get some legs to survive on dry land. I didn't do this. I guess I'm generaly considered a pig-fucker by the people here so squirel is the wrong species.

So, the mutated squirel fucking fish believed that Journey was now cool cuz JSS was in, but they still hated Augeri. Well, that's nice...go about saying how much you hate Augeri because JOURNEY had boots that all sounded the same. I guess you have to be a mutated squirrel-fucking fish to understand that.

Nowadays the mutated-squirrel-fucking fish go about fucking monkeys trying to evolve into who knows what...and they are led by a giant sea otter who tells anybody or anything that disagrees with him that he'll bash them on his chest like a clam. Yeah, that makes for a real positive and enjoyable forum experience.

So, why am I still here on a forum full of mutated-squirrel-fucking-fish-monkeys led by a giant sea otter?

Maybe I'm just a bit nostalgic for the old pond before it evolved into what it is today.

Mmm...

Interesting post Monker. This is what I want from you. Relevant discussion and opinions. This post may not be in my favor as they say, but I can appreciate the sentiment behind it.

What I ask is for those that wish for something better - help make it so. The board this week has been great I think - at least there is a better vibe here after last week's (regularily scheduled) meltdown.

So where to from here? Now would be a perfect time to shape the board into it's next phase...

I should really be pissed off at being called a
"mutated-squirrel-fucking fish going about fucking monkeys"
by this self righteous, self-proclaimed Pig Fucker but this post was just way too damn funny to care!!!

This has to go right up there with some of TNC's classics :)

The interviews about Journeys future should help this board to the next phase...!! :) Unless of course fans dont get the answers of what they personally want to hear... then hell will break lose again...

Hey Monker,

The only problem I have with you is that I feel you tend to want to post argument just for the sake of doing so without a clear stance. If this is an incorrect judgement on my behave, then I sincerely apologize. I remember reading your post from the days of the good ol' Journey digest...way back just before Steve Perry left Journey in '98. I will say, you kind of lost me with the whole squirrels being fucked by fish statement -- but hey -- to each his own, right? Anyways, I understand posting as Devil's advocate just to get people to think in terms outside the box. I don't always feel you do this effectively, and it does tend to come across as someone who just wants to start and argument rather than to provoke thought. Please understand this is merely how you come across to me, and not an attack on you. Just remember, we all tend to be larger than life in an internet forum, but very different people in person.

As with anyone here, I try to get along with everybody, because at the end of the day, I truly believe we're all Journey fans in our own right. We all want our band to succeed and be recognized by the majority --- whoever graces the Journey fans as the frontman. We all have our opinions about that position. I will say this, I was one who really wanted Journey to work things out with Steve Perry way back when he last left Journey. I had grown to appreciate Steve Augeri and I have enjoyed his contributions to the band. However, I haven't had as much excitment over Journey in a long time! The last time I was this excited about Journey was when TBF was going to be released. I really believe JSS fits well with Journey in every way. Don't get me wrong, I would prefer the early 80's version of Steve Perry over anyone else singing in Journey -- and so would Jeff! However, I truly believe that Perry and Journey will never happen anymore, and I want Journey to continue writing and performing the type of music that I have loved throughout my years.

Well, for what it's worth, Monker, I usually find your posts very much worth reading. Without taking sides either way, I just want to say that I hope you continue to post, and express your opinion in the way that is unique to you. That is, afterall, what this forum should represent, isn't it? All of us being able to express ourselves in our own unique way. It is what draws most of us, myself included, to this place to sometimes take some verbal abuse, but most times to hear and express our excitement and love of the band Journey. Sharing information, opinions, boots, and sometimes hearing from the band members themselves makes this a great place to be, even if sometimes the going gets a little rough.

Thank you, Andrew, for keeping this forum as it is, and for letting all of us have a little home away from the reality of home. I may not always agree with everything I see and read here, but I am always grateful that it is here for my enjoyment and the freedom to say what I feel.

Regards to all,
Mandi

Those were the good old days, hey Monker? You, Fred, Journey Dave and I had some interesting discussions.

You use the word hate and that's not the way I remember it. I didn't care for Augeri as a magnetic enough personality but hate is more like what your postings were filled with in reference to Perry. I remember when someone started a topic asking what any of us would do if we got to meet Perry and you wrote that you would run like hell cause he would probably try to kill you, lol. You're right though, the language used then wasn't as offensive as it has become now.

You were always the best Journey historian and still are, imo.

Yep, I remember those days too. Monker was the first one to actually take the time to respond in a civil manner to one of my questions about the band WAYYYY back on BT, when I was still trying to comprehend the fact that the band had moved on without Perry. I've always appreciated that.

Monker, I have to tell you that your initial post in this thread is sadly hilarious, at least to me. It SEEMS as though you are saying that what once was has demoralized into what it is now and that in some ways, what we have now is no better off, and possibly worse than what we had originally? You can tell me I'm wrong, if that's not what you meant. I could give an absolute sh*t what anyone else thinks of my opinion, or whether or not they'll step up and be the first one to tell me how pompous I am for even deigning to try and figure out what it is you're saying. If I'm wrong, fine. I don't mind hearing that from you.

Oh Monker my dear. You seem to be back in true form.

Aaaaawwww the old days when we were all crawling from the primordial swamp. :( You were talking positive about Augeri/Journey and browbeating Perry and his fans. I was talking positive about Perry/Journey and browbeating Augeri and his fans. Now it seems that we have evolved yet again. I'm feeling positive about JSS/Journey and you're resenting him and his fans for much the same reason I resented Augeri and his. The common DNA strain among us in these messageboard worlds which we cohabit is in the Journey gene. We are all ultimately Journey fans of one species or another.

I don't remember being able to post on Steven Lake's page. I think Skylord's was the first real forum. Monker, you were a tough guy, but somewhat fair. Dimino (Meanie) was the real jerk. Heard he got nailed for lying & plagiarizing. Don't remember.

The post had its points.
When tapegate grew legs it brought Dean wannabeclones litereally out of the woodwork to the place, and with great rapidity. On both sides of the fence, too.

There is only one Dean and the clones pulled it off with NONE/ZERO of the innovativeness and comedic value. And it mucked the joint up something fierce.

Well, Steven didn't maintain the digest, but I think that is where I first found the link to sign up for the digest. I guess this was probably around the time when TBF came out...so I wanted to look up as much info on Journey at that point as I could.

Oh yeah..and  fantasizing about what you all could do to the bar of soap that was Perry.............Sick stuff.

Monker, I have an idea for ya. Everyone here says u know more about Journey history than anyone. Well at least, between u & Froy. So how about this. Why don't u give us some education? Start an interesting topic. Get us going. It's gonna be pretty dead here for the next few days w/everyone in Baltimore. Here is ur big chance to start new topics, get convos going & make this board interesting. Posting threads like this might be funny, but it's nothing new. So let's get w/it, huh?

I'm sure u have so much great stuff to tell us that we don't know & wouldn't know where to go to find. Let's go...

Everytime Monker adds to a thread, he gets roundly "chastised" by many within this primordial ooze. Monker's been posting for years and for those who have been reading his posts, there's been quite an education in all things Journey.
