Ok, I think it time that I was a little more blunt in explaining the delay.

Everything is done and finished. Aside from some minor details and final editing, the whole feature could be uploaded and launched anytime.

But the interviews all talk of future plans as does much of my tour diary comments etc.
Unfortunately, there needs to be some clarificaton of these plans by management and the band themselves in the form of a press release before I can go live with my feature. Otherwise, the said feature will speak for itself.

So, my hands are tied waiting for an official update from the band to all. This update was expected already, but has not yet materialized, so I'm impatiently awaiting this as much as the rest of you.

I want to get my reviews and interviews online ASAP. Stay tuned...

Andrew,

This is the best way to do it to avoid problems for yourself and confusion toward the band. When I published my magazine, we often interviewed people within the modeling industry. We ALWAYS sent them the interview for their final approval. It's the safest and best way to go.

Thanks for the update.

Cheers Fred. The content of the interviews aren't anything that controversial that it needs approval, no one will see the content befreo I post it.
But the talk from the guys of what's next for them should not be posted here before it is addressed one way or the other officially.

I was just hoping that the timing of an update from the band would be more aligned with my plans, so that I could post the feature sooner rather than later. Monday here now, so here's hoping for this week...

Yep, I agree. I'm sure the contents isn't controversial, but if things are worded correctly and are open to confusion, then that wouldn't be good either. So, it's best to be sure that what IS posted is EXACTLY what the band wants it to say.

I made the mistake early on with the magazine. I'd interview someone over the phone, publish it and then they'd go "I NEVER said that, blah, blah, blah" even though with their permission, I recorded it verbatim over the phone. So, I then put the oneness on them and allowed them to make any changes they wanted to do the interview so that it read exactly like they wanted it to read. I even went so far (in the case of an executive at Paramount Pictures) to send them the article as it would look with the pictures and title and everthing else in place.

I was just hoping that the timing of an update from the band would be more aligned with my plans, so that I could post the feature sooner rather than later. Monday here now, so here's hoping for this week...

Okay, now I get what you mean.

No, I didn't think I was publishing a "puff" piece, but that's open for debate. In at least some cases, it was 'publish the interview the interviewee WANTED or don't publish it at all.' Fortunately for me, most of the time, when I say that the interviewee had the final say, I'm talking about the way in which something was worded. Sometimes, after I wrote up the interview, I'd send it to them, then they would look at a few sentences and go "God, why did I say that?! That makes no sense at all!" So, they might change it so that it clarified things and eliminated the potential of something being misconstrued. That's pretty much what I'm talking about.

There were cases where I was "asked" not to publish an article (if it contained time-sensitive information about upcoming model kit releases, for instance) unless the timing of that article release met with the approval of the bigwhigs in the corporate office of that particular modeling company. I could have run with the article and published it anyway - claiming freedom of the press - but I can guarantee that any future interviews/information from that company (and possibly others) would have ended right there.

Andrew,

I didn't mean to force your hand. Adimittedly, I am sitting on pins and needles.

You have never been anything but gracious to me, both publicly and in in PMs.

I sincerely thank you for the update. I probably should have asked you in a pm. My apologies for that - but I know everyone is glad to know what the hold up is.

And I love the "TALK OF FUTURE PLANS". If that's what is holding things up, I gladly await their official release and THEN your publication.

Sorry, but/and THANKS AGAIN!

No worries at all Knox. It's the same Q everyone is asking, so probably better that I address it. I'm not sure when an update/announcement is coming, but I think everyone is looking forward to an update.

Fred - I can totally understand why any journalist needs to be pragmatic to ensure that they don't get frozen out by the organisations they're covering - but equally I'm not sure I agree that the article needs to express "exactly" what the organisation wants it to say.

If a journalist suppresses information or opinions in order to humour the subject of the article then we - the readers - can lose trust in the content of the piece.

I agree and that's certainly the other side of the coin, however in my case, the magazine was talking about models, model-building and sculpting. It always surprised me how picky people would get about those areas, but how some would throw up their hands in a huff because they were supposedly "misquoted." We had one guy that we really wanted to interview about his years at the old Aurora company. We approached him and he wrote back a terse letter exclaiming that he had no trust for editors or journalists because of how often he'd been misquoted.

I understand your point though, Matthew and when it comes to politics, religion, corporate America and a few other areas when someone is on the "firing line," then I don't think journalists should give in inch (and I think too often today, they give MORE than an inch). In my case, I was publishing a magazine that catered to those who enjoyed the hobby of building models. Nothing earth shaking...although don't tell THEM that, because to many of those folks, you live or die by building models! :D

I have an idea. Someone close to Andrew, who knows the band's plans, and who can write well, should write the Journey press release so Andrew can give us the interviews! 8) As busy as they are over there censuring the 20 or 30 who still bother, it could be a long while before an official press release gets wroted. :? It might just work!

Anyone ever think Augeri is deliberately trying to swamp the guys in legal purgatory?
They can't really move forward if he extends this wrangling for eternity.

I don't think he holds that much of a heavy hand in it all.
