I do NOT understand why this guy has not had a heart attack yet. I have NEVER seen someone who can get THAT pissed off as often as he does and still be alive. Boggles my mind. Sorry, had to vent it.

Yeah, but gee, in all fairness to Bobby, apparently the Chancellor was "goading" him. :D

He's more than a little off.

I roll w/ the General. Always will.

I wish he would've come to Temple, a REAL BBall school, when Chaney retired.

I'm glad the heat hasn't mellowed him out.

That's really what he needs is to have his ass kicked in public. He's a pompous jerk that has been treated like Jesus Christ at Indiana and Texas Tech.

Yeah, but with as much ANGST that guy is filled with, I think it would take more than one or two people together to kick his rear. I mean, the adrenaline that must travel through his veins when he gets fired up like that...I doubt if he would feel a sledgehammer smacking into the side of his head!

Screw the heart attack thing! I can't understand why this clown has a job! Bobby Knight is a complete disgrace to the coaching profession, and I could care less what his graduation rate is! This guy should not be molding anyone's mind, let alone those minds that are still quite impressionable!

Good for the Lubbock media for sticking up for him. The guy wins and INSISTS on doing it w/ in NCAA rules which are often flaunted by dimmer witted coaches and on doing it w/ kids who do decently in class.

A teddy bear he ain't, but he puts out quality individuals.

Woa.
Please provide some documentation that Bobby Knight is a woman beater.

I live in central Indiana, not far from Bloomington, where IU's main campus is located. I don't know very many people that think he is all that great as a person. The guy is a brilliant basketball coach, though. He's done more with less talent than most other coaches. He doesn't send as many great individual players to the NBA like Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke, etc., but he gets the job done.

That being said, he is a loose cannon and gets away with much more than most university employees would. He's a former military guy who thinks he has godlike autonomy over the players. I'd like to see one of his players clean his clock, too.

On the other side, he also has a reputation for being very loyal to his players after their college days are over. He makes himself available to them to talk about anything and to be there for them if they need him. Regardless of his lack of temper, that still says a lot about him.

Loyal or not, the man is phsycho. He didn't just "chin tap" the boy, he pretty much bitch slapped him. For a normal person, like you (all of you) or I, that would be assault. Even if weak assault. A person can get their point(s) across without physical contact. Other coaches prove it all the time.

I know what you mean. If someone did that to me, it would be awfully difficult not to retaliate. I saw the one video where he "accidentally" head-butted one of his players, when the player was sitting on the bench. I'm certain it was an accident in this case. However, he was SO PO'd, that when he bent down to talk to the player, Knight's head cracked the player's. Knight didn't even seem to notice, but the player turned and you could see he was just really angry and taken back.

The dude needs to learn to control himself, but it's probably too late for that.

There was just a newspiece on, well the local news here, and while some basketball players and coaches said they see no problem, because he was trying to get the boy's attention... (WTF?)... the news people and sportscaster looked disgusted. BTW, there were coaches in the piece that also said, there's never any reason to have physical contact with a player/student, for ANY reason. Is this world so screwedup that this sort of things is just too accepted anymore in this day and age? Yeah, I think it is.

The player saying he Knight did nothing wrong, I feel said that, because he didn't want to be disciplined by Knight.

I am an Indiana boy and fan of Bob Knight forever! You all only see the crap! Not rare for ANY coach to do the same things Bob does and get no airtime. I know I have had the chin grab a few times in my years in sports.

The positive this guy does in taking youths and making them successful men is incredible. Inner city guys get a chance to live a normal life thanks to Bobby. His graduation rate is unparallelled when combined with his winning totals.

Ever played on a team with a coach's son on it with a guy like Neil Reid? I have and those horse's asses need slapped around. They come from daddy and have attitudes as large as the sky many with mouths to match. I say hail to the general and more kids need a good foot in the ass. I know mine paid off for me many times over!

Read a little about Bobby's work with foundations, his kids/players, heck man the revenue he helps bring in at any school he is at by WINNING, helps countless kids attend college that may otherwise not be able to due to the funds produced. Is he a bit over the top sometimes? Yes. Is he a racist, Out of control, a negative influence on the kids? NO WAY!

I thought a Prince outranks a Knight?

A lot of pretty intelligent and respected basketball people are coming to his defense on this, which confuses me. I know sports and academics are very different, but if a teacher did that to a student, I doubt he would be working there very long.

Sounds like a smokescreen to cover up or try to make equal his abusive tx toward players--remember a battered woman often feels she deserved to be treated wrong---a coach like that uses his control/manipulation to make his players fear him just like an abuser does his/her victims. Should we also let certain drug lords stay on the streets because they gave some of their drug money to help kids in a local school or community.

One of Knight's secretly taped, expletive-laden halftime speeches was circulating on the internet about 5 years ago. Anyone have it? It's unbelievable. Post it if you got it.

I love how all you who think he is "mean" and "out of control" probably never played competitive sports at this level. It's fucking insane and I would LOVE to play for Bob Knight. I know I would be a better player and man because of him.

He's a great coach. No doubt about that. But only a moron would say that his antics are not ridiculous. Only spoiled brats behave the way he does. He deserves kudos for the good work he does but he also deserves the heat he gets for the dumb things he does. He often acts like a 65 year old child.

Haven't seen that, but there is a download of Bobby knight's top 10 greatest soundbites....it is absolutely terrific because he manages to pull it all off without ever cracking smiles...
The "game faces" is ALL TIME.

I'll reiterate my own read on him is as a perfectionist with a bad temper but who has never broken a law or NCAA rule and who turns out quality indivuals who are prepped to be successes in life.

He will tell you, though, that he is NOT the coach for everyone. For example he told Charles Barkley to take a hike when The Round Mound Of Rebound wanted on Knight's winning US Olympic juggernaut in 1984.
