ROGER TAYLOR - UK HOF INTERVIEW
Article from Brian May.com
Roger Taylor attended the UK Hall of Fame Awards last night at Alexandra Palace, and had the privilege to induct Led Zeppelin, as well as play drums in a supergroup, with 31-piece orchestra and choir, on 3 Beatles songs - ‘Golden Slumbers’, ‘Carry The Weight’ and ‘The End’ - in tribute to producer George Martin, who was also being honoured with an induction.
Roger also talked to Mark Radcliffe of BBC Radio 2. He was asked about recording new material with Paul Rodgers. He said that they were in the studio and everything was going great and would be a new Queen album. They didn't want to go on tour without some new stuff, so as not to be called "Revivalists" and that it would be some months before they went out on tour again.

Sorry Roger, Queen died with Freddie. No one sadder about that than me. I would have loved to see Queen live

They had to convince him to play the FM tribute after Freddie's death. I'd love to see Brian May solo though. I loved both his cd's. But it's not Queen w/o Freddie. "pays tribute to Freddie" I'll agree that it's a tribute band, but not Queen

I can accept Journey being Journey without Steve Perry. However, Queen seems to be a whole different ballgame. I agree. It's just not Queen without Freddie.

That's why they call it "Queen + Paul Rodgers"
Freddie is Queen, but this project with Paul Rodgers makes for an excellent evening of music. Don't get caught up in the semantics of what it's called. Pick up the Return of the Champions DVD - it's fun to watch.
AR, you need a new hot chick in your sig. That one's not doing much for me anymore.

If you listen to the sound file or read the full article http://www.brianmay.com then you will hear Roger confirm that he and Brian are Queen, that John has retired. I saw them 10/12 times with Paul Rogers and they are a very good band. Also saw PR on his own in October and he was pretty dashed good too. Hopefully this new material will be harder, more blues oriented and will be welcome by many people.

Hearing u say that makes me wonder (since I generally respect ur opinion - oh but not about Perry & Freddie is my other favorite).
I've seen clips on YouTube of Queen w/Paul & they just made me feel ill. I can't imagine it. I would have accepted JSS w/Queen. He fits IMHO. But Paul Rodgers just didn't sound right to me on the clips I heard. IMHO that was like asking Billy Joel to sing lead for Journey.

That is not Queen, period! I'll be the first to admit that I don't know a whole lot about Rodgers (although, interestingly enough, I've heard some on message boards refer to the guy as a "legend"). If that voice makes a "legend", then Perry is God! None of the "old" Queen music he was singing sounded even remotely familiar to me. I just can't believe a band with the legacy Queen has would completely re-arrange such classic songs...Sacrilege, in my opinion. I realize that we can't bring Freddie back, but, at least retire the name Queen with some dignity!

I disagree. You have never heard of Bad Company? Paul Rodgers is a legend! Again, as someone else pointed out, this is Queen + Paul Rodgers. To me, it's combining great queen songs with great Bad Company songs. I think Rodgers does the songs justice -- yeah he doesn't sound like FM, but he still rocks those songs! To me, it's the same as Sammy Hagar singing in Van Halen and singing DLR songs....

Yes, Bad Company IS a legend. In the grand Rock-and-Roll world...I'd say much more so than Journey.

Let's face it folks...the term "legend" is a VERY subjective term. It's easy to say a band or an artist you like is a "legend". I've looked at some industry list, and the only Bad Company album anywhere on the list is "Swan Song" that sold a whopping 5 million copies, or to put that another way, about 10 million fewer than Journey's "Greatest Hits", 4 million fewer than Journey's "Escape", or to really prove a point, about 3 million fewer copies than New Kids On The Block "Hanging Tough".
One more fact I'd point to is that Bad Company has sold a total of 15.5 million albums, in total (meaning anything and everything they've ever recorded!). Journey's Greatest Hits has sold about that many copies! I realize that fans of a given band will say album sales don't matter, but honestly, I'm not sure you can discount this. It's sort of like a professional athlete's stats. The numbers are what they are and when compared with many other artists, Bad Company has some not so impressive numbers! So, my question is...What the hell makes a band or singer a "legend"? There has to be more to it than just liking the music. For instance...I despise the Rolling Stones and think my parrot can sing better than Mick Jagger. That said, I don't know how anyone can't say the Stones are a legendary band!
