Well Jeff, since it seems that Soul Sirkus will be on a permanent hiatus...

Fuckin' PrimaDonna Lead Singers these days! No loyalty at all, just run out
and join the bigger band whenever they can :D

Anyhoo, could you get with Neal and ask him if, since he can't seem to
put down a guitar for 5 seconds, he is thinking of calling up
Sammy and Mad Mike to try and spin up PlanetUs again???

I know, wishful thinking, but he has to do something since that other
Lead-Singer's-Disease-infested loser walked away from Soul Sirkus

No, don't get me wrong, Larry. I KNOW we are on to something good but we also know, after followihng this for years, that Neal is
a an absolute Music-Making-Guitar-Pickin' fool that can't seem to go a single day without noodling something new on his
electric twanger or doing something in the studio...
Give someone like Neal, Sammy, Mike and Deen 1-2 months in the studio... Priceless :)

And I am talking "Side Project" = Album, a limitted tour (10-12 shows)...
I don't think that would have any effect on the Journey Machine :)

NO planet US... I would rather Neal work on some more solo efforts like Beyond the Thunder or VOICE..

I was really disappointed when Planet US fell through. But, I also fear that if it does happen and becomes a hit that would be the end of Journey. If you have Sammy, Neal and Satriani in a band together there is no way radio would/could ignore it.

I have not really liked Neal's solo CDs lately. Voice bored me. I on U didn't do much either. Of course both seemed tobe as "thrown together" as Generations. I would like to hear Neal do another Blues CD ala Pirahna Blues (I could even hear JSS singing) or going back to Late Nite and the more subtle yet pop-oriented solo work.

Priority list for Neal:

Journey w/ JSS (record new stuff, and tour like a mutha fucka)

PlanetUS (if you have spare time :D )

Late Nite is indeed my favorite of his solo albums (sneak it into someone's Pink Floyd spins and tell me if they even notice), but I loved I on U and Voice especially. Pirahna Blues was BRUTAL in my opinion. I didn't care much for Electric World, but Beyond the Thunder was okay.

Late Nite is by far the best. GREAT CD. "I'll Cover You" rocks. Although the playing on Voice is great... I felt like I should be picking out produce to it. "Delicate Sound of Thunder's" a good 'couples' album. ;)

My understanding (& I'll probably butcher this a bit as I don't remember all the details) is that for Talisman, Marcel starts off writing the songs on bass (unusual enough) & he writes w/Jeff's voice in mind. Then Jeff comes along & adds stuff to finish off the song (think: Cain/Perry/Schon writing together).

I heard a few demos of Talisman songs w/other vocalists & they sounded like crap. Then, I heard versions w/Jeff singing the same songs & it's total magic.

Now, I wonder if Marcel would have any interest in collaborating w/the Journeymen? Nah, I guess Cain's panties would get bunched over that one.

Bored you??? The dude can't sing!!!!! His voice would lull most of us into a coma! Tell Neal to stick to the 6-string and leave the singing to guys with pipes! Why is it that every musician feels the need to be a vocalist? I'm still shocked that Neal apparently thinks he can sing!

SS was outstanding.
And if my Av don't speak for itself then I will remind you that
I loved that band...
But please tell me you have listened to HSAS about 1000 times?
You don't think Neal and Sammy getting together again
with Mad Mike and Deen thrown into the mix wouldn't be a worthwhile effort???

Oh, don't get me wrong, I listened to HSAS a lot when I first got it, and if he did something with Sammy I'd buy it. But listening to vertigo, and peep hole, there is no doubt that JSS brought more to the table and World Play was better than what we would have gotten. Whatever Neal does is cool with me! I just hope he never does anything with the singer on the pihranha blues disk. that's the only Neal disk I actually hate. Excpet for "Blues for Miles" which is pretty good.

Neal can sing, and pretty good actually! He doesn't have the voice for melodic stuff, but he has a kind of heavy, gritty, unique style and I wish he would do some more. "people and places" for Journey is a cool song, and have you heard him do Voodoo Chile? Its great! He also sang a few good ones on late nite that I still like. By the way, you do know that he did't sing on "voice" right? that's just the name of the disk.

We'll agree to disagree. I fully understand that we all have very different taste in our music, and it's a very personal thing. For my ears, I think Neal's voice doesn't belong anywhere as a lead vocalist. Could the guy sing in a Karaoke bar??? I'm sure he probably could. That said, this is the major leagues, and he simply doesn't have a major league voice!!!! He should stick to guitar, where he is the master!

I didn't like Pirahna Blues. To me one of his worst cds, but then I really didn't care for the blues. Late Night and Beyound The Thunder are my two favorites. I On U was ok, like most of it.-ERIC
