The MOL & IBAWY videos I took...

Postby ArnelRox » Sun Nov 19, 2006 7:47 am

Well I'm a bit pissed. Apparently, my message re: the 11/7 show & my MOL & IBAWY videos are the subject of discussions on Perry boards. I certainly did not post those videos so that people could have a chance to rip them apart.

1. They are ticked off that Jeff included the "Cupid, draw back ur bow" bit in IBAWY. Why? If Perry included that as a tribute to Sam Cooke, why can Jeff not include it as a tribute to Perry & Sam Cooke? He has told us he is a big fan of both & his style was influenced by both of them. I think it was totally cute that he did that. It touched my heart & I'm a Perry loon. I really hope he continues to do it. I just don't get why some cannot get over the fact that Perry is no longer w/Journey & he doesn't want to be w/Journey. He has an open invitation from Neal & Jeff to get on that stage any time he wants. Obviously, he doesn't want to. I have accepted it. I worship Perry & I listen to him every day. But I'm also a Journey fan. & if Perry doesn't want to be w/Journey anymore, I see no reason why the rest of Journey shouldn't go on & play the songs they made famous together.

2. They are claiming that Perry's voice is used in MOL. Where? Are they talking about the echo on "I" because it doesn't sound like it's Perry to me. I always thought I was really good at hearing Perry even in a chorus. What do the rest of u think? Here's my MOL video for reference: http://youtube.com/watch?v=k6sCx0Eeiqg

Well, I thank you for sharing them!

I think they just can't get over the fact that Deen is equally as good as Perry.

The Perry part is the intro before the first verse (i.e. the backwards bit.) Your vid starts after that. Some ppl who've heard it live say it's the original intro and I think I read that JSS confirmed it. At any rate, Perry gets paid every time they use it, so it isn't like they're ripping it off w/out permission or anything.

Nah, that's really no big deal, or it shouldn't be. The issue is JSS singing the Cupid bit. See, that add-on was never done with Journey, just by Perry on his solo tour. So the uproar is why Journey can use it when it was never done by Journey before... only Perry after the split.

Well to me it sounded like Steve, but u know what, I'm gonna ask JSS..either way the entire song which I saw live 3 days later is awesome..it is one of my fav songs and JSS does it justice, in fact, i wish he would use more of his own style with that song or any other song....he is a great, and i mean great frontman...i go to shows to be entertained and thats what i get...the entire band is awesome and they look like they are having fun...
Thanks for the vid also..brings back the memories...i wish i could see journey every week..i just adore them.

OK, big time Loon here. I don't belong to any other websites so I have no idea who is complaining about the MOL deal. (disclaimer) I'm just stating my personal opinion.

I have no objections whatsoever with Jeff doing the Cupid thing. Jeff isn't trying to BE Perry, he's paying tribute to one of his inspirations. He doesn't even do it the same way Perry did anyway. However, if they are in fact using Perry's vocals from the original opening on TBF that's a no-no. No Perry vocals should ever be used in any way by the band unless it's with his approval. That's just common courtesy. Even though TBF was a Journey album the vocal's are Steve's and he should have a say in how and when they are used. Just one Loon's opinion. 8)

Editing here. Deen is a good singer but he's no Steve Perry. Nobody is. :)

JRox, you are always going to have people that see the glass as half-empty instead of half-full........and always have to be bitching about something. I, for one, appreciate the hell out of you posting those vids for us that couldn't be at a J concert........especially those 2 songs! I'm a major Perry fan and I didn't have a problem with him adding that 'cupid' in the song......but then again I took it as a little tribute that I'm sure Jeff intended it to be. I thought JSS sounded alot like Perry on MOL, and I loved it.......but if they are using Perry's voice at the beginning of the song (and I really don't know).....I sure as hell hope they have his approval on that.

Right from the first time I heard JSS, I thought he would sound great on the Frontiers/ROR/TBF stuff. He has that mature-Perry sound to his voice.......and these 2 songs just prove it.

Didn't know about this vid - thanks.

It sounds similar to Perry in the chorus, but the vid itself with the audio isn't perfect, so who knows? When I play it, the video and audio are slightly out of sync, so maybe that's what they're complaining about. Again, who knows? It could just as easily be Deen on the chorus. Plus, Neal, Jon and Ross were on the original chorus, and they're still in the band.

At any rate, it's nice to hear that song.

You lost me there, AR. Deen is good...Even REALLY good! I was shocked at how great Deen sounded the first time I heard the guy sing. I think he's good enough to front a band (assuming he has the stamina to pull it off for more than just a couple of songs). That said, Deen isn't Perry, and I think he'd be the first one to tell you that!
