You have got to be kidding me. Cat, please don't say you are advocating by offering rules to StreetGirl, how to get perry into the RORHOF without the rest of the band.

If I misunderstood you, sorry.

Streetwhore, how can you have the gall to even suggest this BULLSHIT. Without Neal, Ross, Friga and Smitty, Greg Rolie and Herbie Herbert, Perry is nowhere in music.

Journey
A solid, but unspectacular career for what many perceive to be a second tier arena rock band doesn't bode well for their chances, especially since they've been eligible since 1997 and haven't gotten a sniff from the voters. Don't expect that to change in upcoming years. But in respected lead singer Steve Perry and a string of hits throughout the 80's, they have enough credentials to at least be considered, though it is unlikely the results will change.

Just the facts man. Journey can still only get by with the hits that Perrys voice made famous. It's all about influence, like the article stated.

Listen,

Can you not pull the shit from your eyes? It obviously is two factions that made a great band.

For you to dicredit Neal and Cain should result in your immediate termination from this Board. That statement is just absurd and no, I don't need to be objective. THAT is a fact. Without Neal and Friga, Perry is nowhere in music.

No Deano - she has already started the process - I was just offering some info that I have stumbled across in working on the Journey HoF effort.

However, Perry will be eligible - and soon - as will Neal to be inducted as individuals based on their 25 years of solo work. I don't know that either would be successful.

However I do feel that this needs to be the group Journey - that is where my efforts lay.

Journey as a machine is , damn I cannot think of a word big enough to define their amazing body of work - and not just quantity - the quality.

Ok I am starting to preach - down off soap box.

Sorry, but to suggest Perry belongs in the HOF without Journey is just plain ignorant! I love Perry and he is the best thing that ever happened to Journey, by a long shot! That still doesn't change the fact that if the HOF were to come calling, it would (and should) be to honor Journey, and not just Perry. Sorry, but "Oh Sherrie" and "Foolish Heart" aren't getting Perry into the Rock and Roll HOF, and if you really believe that, you truly are beyond delusional!

John I hope this is not directed at me - because I have always felt you could read.

At no time have I suggested that either Perry or Schon be inducted alone - I merely commented that each would soon be eligible as solo artists. Hell Tiny Tim is eligible and you don't see me trying to get him in.

Even in the Song Writer's HoF I feel that Perry Schon and Friga would need to be nominated as a team.

Somebody said somewhere here that Perry without Cain and Schon = mediocre, and Cain and Schon without Perry = mediocre; together, they are golden. To me, that makes real sense. However, I wonder why Journey is considered "second tier?" I just don't understand that... What in the world is missing? Are the songs from the 80s too corny, too pop? What about the "innovation and influence" criteria--what does that mean as far as let's say, Van Halen? or R.E.M. for instance... (I feel like I'm all over the place here :D ) Based on Terry Stewart's quotation above, I would think Augeri's probable lip synching would have an impact on the voters... That's why I don't understand the BTers' undying support for him; if there was even a suspicion of that, do they not see how that might hurt Journey?

Anyway, I hope I am wrong on all counts!!

I wish my crystal ball held an answer, hots!!!

There are so many factors to consider

1) some people feel that "everyone does it" - ok maybe true - but to what extent, and to what extent would the members of the NomCom consider acceptable - remember a lot of these people are label execs, and that makes them pretty shady and narrow minded any way

2) did they even hear about it? many of them are very ego-centric people and they do not notice many things outside of their immediate building.

3) I cannot figure out how they do not recognize Journey's influence on so many areas

ok getting too close to soap box again.

For the record , I do think Perry should be considered for the HOF as a solo artist and for his incredible voice that he is so popularly known for til this very day. He can sing, write, play instruments, produce, direct. Hey, HIS singing talent alone SHOULD be enough to get him inducted in the HOF in my opinion. :D :D :D :D

I doubt if Journey will ever be in the Rock-and-Roll Hall of Fame. But as most sane music lovers know, the RRHOF is a fucking joke anyway. Journey would be in MY Hall of Fame...and that's all that really matters.

Well, maybe somebody asked SP about that and maybe he will answer... Maybe it doesn't matter to them (Journey members), anyway. It matters to me for some reason, though. Maybe bragging rights, or something? I looked over at the BT forum and the Hall of Fame thing doesn't seem to be a big deal to them... There was one thread that was started about it but it didn't last long...

The RRHOF (which is indeed the the sound I think of when the subject comes up..ex. Image) only got around to inducting Black Sabbath, one of the most influential bands ever, last year. So what does that tell you? :?

Even tho I am not considered a BT'er I am the co-chair of the J2TH (Journey to the Hall) Committee.

Our site, forms, petitions, letters consistantly referred to "the band, Journey, all members past and present" to keep the question of individuals a non-issue and we could spend our energy focusing on what we need to do.

You are right, the subject was rarely followed on BT - I don't knwo if it was because of the subjuct, or more because usually I was the person providing the info.

Believe if ya want to get a thread to die at BT all I have to do is post hehehehe

Some individuals there (not blaming the entire board) even accused me of only being involved because I was being paid by Perry.

Damn check must be in the mail.

I know I wasn't asked but I don't think it would.
The HOF knows Journey, like VH is a shoe-in. But they waited until it looked like VH could actually get on stage w/ DLR and play at their induction, which now appears likely, herego, VH, after years of eleigibility gets the nod.

Same w/ Jrny, like w/ the Police, too. Cleveland will wait until they get the word that SP is prepared to get on stage with the rest of the band and sing DSB and Faitfully.

Cat--thank you for getting on your soabox, by the way :D . So you have hope? If so, I will continue to hope, too. It really irks that they were labeled as corporate rock, fluff, etc., and that that has stuck!

I don't know if anyone can/will answer this question (maybe it's kind of dumb), but I was curious re: those who have Sirius or XM, has Bob Dylan ever mentioned Journey on his show?

Others, as in radio shows, or as in musicians? Can you share?

(I read in Time or somewhere that a lot of people tuned in to Bob D's radio show because he played songs/music that he liked/admired, and that his show is very insightful... I was just hoping that he liked Journey, too.)

Excuse me? Where in my post did I refer to eight years of decline? I never said that. I responded to Fyre's post about the band being hindered & mentioned them not appearing on TV & radio live in the last 2 yrs. I don't know how ur mind was able to twist what I said into 8 yrs of decline. But I do not take kindly to being misquoted.

MartyMoffatt wrote: I'd say that in the context of well known classic rock bands successful in the 70's and 80's, very few of whom have enjoyed anything like the same success in the 90's and 00's (and I can probably name at least 20 such bands off the top of my head) Journey HAVE been relatively successful. They have toured to full audiences, they have enjoyed a period of stability and they have made money. That's more than can be said for a great many similar bands from the same era. I'ts pointless comparing current success with the success of their heyday - different times, different cultures, different attitudes, different tastes.

Where does this disagree w/anything I've said? I said they had some success touring. Please re-read my post.

Fyre said Journey had GREAT SUCCESS w/Augeri as the frontman. I don't think playing in smaller venues equates to GREAT SUCCESS. I can think of 3 70s/80s artists who still enjoy that kind of success off the top of my head (& more if I spent a few minutes thinking about it): Bruce Springsteen, Aerosmith, U2. Those artists still enjoy what I consider to be GREAT SUCCESS. Journey, thus far, hasn't. That was the point I was making.

Please don't misquote me again.

This might all be far-fetched but at least the band has SOME hope of making serious and positive changes. With Augeri in the band I reckon all hope was exhausted...even if his voice was still in good shape.

Well said Matthew. None of us know exactly how far Jeff can take this band. But at least there is now HOPE and a possibility.

I was just talking to my friend's 17 yr old son yesterday. He worked at a Journey/DL concert this summer. He dreaded the thought of old men onstage but at the show, he was so impressed w/Jeff that he went out & bought Infinity & Escape & he has played them for all his friends. Some of his friends bought Frontiers & Departure & really got into it. He's now bugging me on a weekly basis as to when Journey will release a new album. I've known him since he was a year old. We have never agreed on music before now. To me, it's very exciting that I can talk Journey w/a 17 yr old. I gave him some audio & video of concerts w/Jeff to show his friends. They're all really into it. His friends all thought Jeff was very much "today" & as good if not better than the bands they like that are in the charts at the moment. They may only be a small faction of teens, but they will all go buy a new Journey album & that's a step in the right direction.

Roll out that new album, Journey. Some teens are waiting.

Excellent thoughts, ones that I too, share. Minus a Perry reunion, Journey has no chance of ever seeing the The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. It would be a complete joke for them to get in and have someone else sing the songs the Perry-era Journey made famous. The Hall knows this and recognizes a non-Perry fronted Journey would draw little or no interest from the fan base as well. Minus Perry, the whole induction process is pointless.

Perry does not have to currently be in the band to be inducted with the band.

And they really want to sell the $1550-2500 seats to the Induction Ceremony

Many would pay double that for just the possibility of Perry showing - and even more for Perry singing - if he wants too.

I agree. HOWEVER, if he were to say that he would NOT be performing with them on that night you wouldn't sell 10 tickets. If he agreed to sing those tickets would be going for Megabucks.
