Take Me Back To Ohio (Speed Corrected)

Postby JeremyP » Mon Nov 27, 2006 4:53 am

Hey everybody,

I gave the amazing performance of "Take Me Back To Ohio" the same treatment I gave "Lost Angels" and brought it back to it's original speed and pitch.

I thought this incredible performance deserved to be heard as it sounded on the night in all it's depth and soulfulness.

Enjoy!!

My neverending thanks to who provided the song here in the first place, it's really one of those once in a lifetime great perfomances. I just wish they had done more of it!!

Wow...just...wow....

Is that a "State Song" from the "Turn of the Century"? That's what it sounds like....well, to me, anyway...

Do you know HOW HARD IT IS to start a Melodic Line on the FIFTH?? (do, re, mi, fa, SOL?)

Good Lord.....

I just sang along with it...and it's in a HIGH RANGE for a FEMALE VOICE!!

Not being a singer, I really don't know, but I do know that it SOUNDS hard to do!!

This is a really beautiful performance...it's just too short!

Nice Jeremy thanks. I have often wondered if this was taped poorly or really sped up? Anyone who went to the show care to enlighten?

I think it's slightly faster because it was probably recorded onto cassette tape originally, which never plays at quite the same speed on any other player besides the one you originally recorded with. (Sometimes not even then)

When whoever converted the song to digital format, the cassette player they played the source tape on ran a bit too fast and the resulting file was pitched higher and played faster than what was originally heard on the night.

That's what I think happened.

Hey Jeremy, is the entire song there? I seem to only have part of it. Sounds great though!

Sorry guys, I wish I had "Faithfully" to go along with it, it'd sound amazing. That's the way I downloaded the file from another thread here.

It's there exactly as I downloaded it, Fred. If someone wants to send me the whole version including "Faithfully" I'll be glad to speed correct it.

Thanks for your "thankses" I appreciate them. :)

Thanks a million Susie! File is speed corrected and ready to upload.

Thanks Fred, I'm hoping it gets here any day now. *crosses fingers*

Would everybody prefer to have Faithfully as a seperate song or put directly after "Take Me Back To Ohio" so it's like one song?

Either way is no problem, just let me know.

I thought I'd go ahead and put "Take Me Back To Ohio" before "Faithfully". I think it sounds really nice that way, and you kind of expect to hear "Faithfully" after "Take Me Back To Ohio" anyway.

Enjoy. :)

Hi Jeremy: I was wondering if there was a complete version of "Take Me Back To Ohio?" Did Journey write this song? Just that small clip and I was nearly in tears--so beautiful... My son was telling me a sad story about one of his classmates in here and the song was playing so now I will never forget it...

Thanks ever so much...

In the show Take Me Back to Ohio was played as a lead in to Faithfully.

So, that's all it is (which is a lot)--a lead-in tune, just a couple of verses?

Thanks so much Jeremy. Very enjoyable. I wonder if it is the tape recording? I have heard a lot of people say the ROR tour seemed sped up...but I wasn't there unfortunately. I wish I had been :-(

I didn't get to see any of them. :( The bootleg performances I've heard do sound speeded up, but now I wonder to what extent the tape thing that Jeremy mentioned caused that.

I think they did speed up the actual performances of the songs, but the cassette tape speed thing is also a factor.

They kinda did this on the Frontiers tour too. I think they omitted the fingerpicked intro of "Wheel In The Sky" and just went straight into it after...um....I think "Chain Reaction".

I've got some Frontiers boot where the did speed up the older songs. I always thought they were doing it to get as many of the old songs in as they could and still have time for the newer ones that they wanted to concentrate on.

That's a good point. I sometimes wonder if they also got tired of playing the same songs the same way every show, so they bumped up the speed a little and changed around an intro here and there to make things a bit more interesting.
