Well u know those apostrophes make it really really tough to read ur posts. "Brains" is plural. Apostrophe's are possessive. For example: "ur brains" or "ur brain's white matter".

Larry's posts have no capitalization & run on, but they're more easily readable.

& btw, before u call me the kettle, I almost got run off this site for using things like "gr8" when I first got her. So far, they've left me alone w/my "u" & "ur" & "&". Everyone has to pay their dues.

Onto the topic: there are bad bad bad songs. There are bad pieces of art. There are bad books. There are bad films. There are bad theatrical performances. Why shouldn't we be allowed to express our opinions?

Also, think of the times. American Idol lets us all think we can be like Simon Cowell. & after all, Randy was a member of this band for 1 tour. Alright dawg?

i just used good ol lar as an example....there are plenty of posts that can be picked apart here.....for example.....you just put her instead of here. Some just want to pick and go off topic when they dont have an opinion on the topic or they are just out for personal attack's.....which is what I seem to be getting now. Big deal...it's just a message board not a popularity contest. If some don't like me or what I have to say they can choose to skip over it.....which is a point I was making in the first place.

attacks is plural, not possessive. It requires no apostrophe. I mean you're not implying that attack owns something are you?Sorry, it's sticking out like a sore thumb to me now. Just hate to see you wasting keystrokes. Maybe I did major in english!

Well I included an opinion on the topic so I'm a good girl, right?

Your sig:
"If you love something, set it free. If it come's back, it was your's.
If it never return's, it was never your's to begin with. "

Lovely sentiment, but it's "yours" (in 2 instances) & "returns". Neither one are possessive. Sorry for picking on ya! But it is your sig after all.

Have to disagree with you JR. "your's" is possessive. You are right about the "returns" though. :D

See, this board isn't a waste of time--it's educational. At least it's the correct form of 'too' in the heading. That's one of my pet peeves.

You're right, "yours" is possessive. Thanks for pointing it out. (I did major in English so I should have stated that better! ) But there is no such spelling as "your's". It's "yours".

My biggest pet peeve is "should of", "could of" & "would of", instead of "should have", "could have" & "would have". That one drives me nuts. Next up is "their" when it should be "they're".

I agree with what has been said in this thread. When an artist puts out a piece of work for the public, they are open to criticism, period! That's just the way it is, and that will never change. Should an actor or actress not be criticzed for a horrendously bad movie, simply because they are creatively expressing themselves, as an artist? I think ANYONE opening themselves up to the public is fair game! Not to mention, in Journey's case, there is quite a legacy that this band has created. Because of what Journey was, there are many fans who will ALWAYS hold them to that past standard, no matter how unrealistic that may be!

I don't like when people use "affect" instead of "effect" and vice versa.

And there is no such word as "irregardless".

As Steve Martin said, "Some people have a way with words, and others.... um.... I don't know.... no have way, I guess."

That's one of my pet peeves. I hate seeing otherwise well spoken people use that double negative.

Affect and effect can be tricky and in some cases when used as a verb can at times seem almost interchangable. Affect as a verb is usually applied when something has a more direct effect(noun) on a specific condition. I most common usage you're probably going to be right with effect.

Example of verb usage: The epidemic effected the whole nation but the resulting paralysis affected the patient's legs.

When used a nouns they're not at all the same.

You're right JRox, yours, hers, theirs, and ours, are possessive pronouns just like his. No apostrophes.

On the topic of the thread I agree with Dave and Fred.

Not to get off the english lessons, but the original intent of my thread was to give some recognition to true artists....the ones that maintain their intregrity and care about the work they produce........my statement of no bad songs was wrong...of course...there are plenty......and sadly plenty of people who sell out and/or get lazy when they hit the top.....their product suffers for it and they burn out or release crap. They lose sight of what inspired them and their creative edge. A few have maintained it thruout their careers.....but too few it seems.

im absolutley opposed to drug use, (not over the counter, as in ambien), but most of those great old tunes that seem to be so creative were written with booze and drugs,, aerosmith wrote some great tracks on heroine,, not so great on hot soups and tea... when folks clean up and start singing about their "new" life and sobriety, it just doesnt seem to click as much, plus they are older and out of the loop a bit... kenny loggins comes to mind.. ozzys last 3 albums were GREAT.. ya see.. (this is a joke by the way).. 8)

Btw,I was thinking that without the drugs, many of the greatest songs ever written would have not come to life...
I really HATE drugs, but in this case I like the results (as dreadful as this may sound)

I really don't think it has as much to do with drugs as it does with their youth and creative energy those artists had when they were young. I think they could've done even better had their minds been clear and free from that crap. A lot of artists seems to lose that hunger when they age.
