I posted these because it was just another read from another viewpoint, that's all. Sometimes, you agree and sometimes you don't. I've started reading the reviews on iTunes now that I'm buying downloads. Not that it makes any difference to me as to whether or not I'm going to buy something, but they're fun to read anyway. What is cool about iTunes is that amount of music they have to purchase! Bought some really cool stuff lately, like "Sugar, Sugar" from the Archies and much more! Whether it's albums or individual songs, they really have a lot available.

I read all of the reviews Fred and thought they were interesting even when I didn't completely agree with them. Disagreement seems to be the norm where Journey and Perry are concerned.

Sugar, Sugar? OMG does that ever bring back memories for me.

Yeah, I don't mind when people share their opinions in an intelligent way, even if they don't share mine. I can still learn from their opinion and appreciate it.

Yeah, I know! I'm looking for a few other golden oldies... :D

I completely agreed with his take on that song. I think it's one of the worst pieces of crap that Perry ever lent his golden voice to. I've never understood why anyone likes that song. It sounds like a demo that someone threw on the album as an extra track.

Dave, I'm guessing you didn't like I Believe off of Streettalk either right? Sorry but I really like the motown feel of those songs. IMO Steve gives great motown..........

No, I actually like "I Believe". It's not one of my favorites from that album but it's far from a throwaway track.

Never saw that before... thanks...

Umm I don't think I'm going too far out on a limb in saying the musicianship on Street Talk was certainly on par with Journey. It's more a style departure than anything..... The involvement of folks like Michael Landau, Larrie London, Randy Goodrum, etc...this was going to be a hit, and it was..

Interesting. I love Strung Out. I have a friend (male) who really dislikes all Perry's solo stuff EXCEPT that song which he thinks is very catchy.

Am I gonna get beaten about the head for saying that "Back Talk" gets that award?
Well...don't care. I'm saying it anyway. Yikes.

I don't mind Strung Out. I'd rather listen to "Captured By The Moment" though.

BTW, that review is from the All Music Guide. They weren't all that kind to FTLOSM either.

Honestly, I can't listen to Street Talk. Sure, Perry's got more vocal chops than just about anyone in the business, but that doesn't change the fact that vocals aside, it's a fairly generic 80's lite-pop album. Perry wrote some amazing songs, but for the most part he wrote them around the music of Neal and Jon (or Gregg)...the guys he did his solo stuff with just weren't up to the same level as songwriters.

Yes, it's a solo album, and not a Journey album, so maybe it isn't fair to compare them, but since it's virtually the same style as Journey (minus the fact that there's very little rock to be found) it's an inevitable comparison.

A voice like Perry's is like having guitar chops like Schon or Vai or Petrucci...that's great, but in the end it only matters if you're using those chops on some truly memorable songs.

Alright, you can flame me now.

No flaming from me. You're certainly allowed to have your opinion as much as anyone else is.

I'm not the biggest fan of Strange Medicine (though I DO love the title  ) for which I'd will probably be strung up for admitting.
I don't hate it, but...

Well, Street Talk is better and that's all I'm saying.
