fred_journeyman wrote:You know as a side note, I enjoy reading these Q & A spots from Perry, however they're frustrating in some ways because it's so tough to know exactly what he's saying by judging from his words only. Like reading some people here...it's hard to know when they're kidding and when they're serious. Since there is no real give and take with Perry, you can't "get to know him" over time, so you have these snippets of "conversation" that are essentially one-sided and that makes it difficult.

You try not to read into anything, but it's tough not to do so because a lot of time, the answers don't seem all that complete. That's to be expected because he's certainly not going to write pages and pages for each answer (though that would be nice), which would give him more opportunity to clarify.

The questions that interested me most of course were the ones dealing with any potential involvement with Journey, Schon or the studio for his own work. In each case, a door seems to be open, but I'll fight the temptation to dwell on it too much.

Not much news here. Seems to be the same stuff Perry always says. That said, I really, really loved the fact that he said Neal inspired him so much. I've always said Neal is as good of a musician as I've ever seen (except when he thinks he actually has a singing voice!), and it's nice to see Perry has such an appreciation for Neal's immense talent! I also like the fact that even Perry flat-out said he has no idea what he really has (in terms of still having a singing voice or not)...Very honest statement.

I've always been VERY annoyed by those who go on and on about how Perry can't sing any longer, as if it even matters! Who cares if the guy can't sing any longer...he's almost 60! If the guy never sang another note in his life, it will never take away from the talent that was Steve Perry! I've never heard anyone (male or female) with his vocal power, and I suspect I'll never hear anyone like that again, in my lifetime!

Finally got through it, thank you!! I've wondered how he is over the years, sounds like he's doing very well, & that's great! Would love to hear him sing again too (last time I saw him live was 94!), but at least we have so much he's already given us to enjoy. :)

Loved the little things too like the fact that he likes tinsel on Christmas trees, so do I. :)

Oh & he'd marry everyone who wants to marry him if he had enough lifetimes! Yay! Save one for me!!!! lol 8)

Good post John.......although I'd still like to lock Perry and Schon in a room for a few hours, no press, no phones, no bullshit, just communication.

Very nice and Most Excellent....thanx, Steve!

I really appreciated how he was blunt and honest about "personal issues" and how he's working thru them....his physical change as of late is amazing
and he's taking care of HIMSELF, for once...and it shows.

Also liked how he shed light on why he didn't talk (cue Ross: "uh....HELLOO??") Yes, his voice back in the day was flat-out AMAZING, but it came with a price....and IMO that price made him look snobbish; like "I don't want to talk to the Little People ~ begone!!"

It hit me right away, and I asked Cyndi right away as well.

Sure sounds as if he is really wanting a chance again with Journey. The way it was worded, the way it was said. The answers, "Neal Schon."

Sure hit me in the middle of the head.

Well, he avoided 4 of mine concerning JSS and the "new" Journey. Its interesting that he listens to Be Good To Yourself these days though.

Then you guys are not reading the bit where he talks about "Love". He basicaly compares Neal with a relationship with someone you love but know you can't be with again...which goes along with something he said years ago...that he didn't believe a person can 'fall out of love'. Because, if you fall out of love then you were really never in love in the first place.

So, IMO, what he is saying is that he can feel love and respect for Neal, but he knows they will never work together again....Just as he can still love Sherrie, even if they can never be a couple again. That is the comparson I think he is trying to make.

Yeah, but I wonder if Perry took the time to explain it to the guys. If he did, they evidently didn't "get it." I would think if he came out and said "I don't talk between shows to save my voice. Please respect that" or something similar to the guys, the fans and the press, it might have gone a long way.

And this is where I get confused and tempted to read into things, because he also said "we MAY be at that point" (emphasis mine). The door seems to be open, but as I said elsewhere, I'm going to try not to dwell on it. :)

I was struck by question #44 where he was asked about ever touring with Journey again, and he said he was "fairly convinced" that they've gone their separate ways. I also thought it was interesting that the only question he answered with the fewest words was the Neal Schon one. I'm a realist about SP singing again, but I thought those were kind of interesting responses... Who really knows?

The answer to question #19... 8)

SP: .. I (just) co-produced, along with their Producer Noha Shain, one track for a punk band named GUFF. They're from Athens Georgia and a very cool band. They re-cut an old Journey track called "I Can See It In Your Eyes." They rocked it seriously. I also enjoyed doing some backing vocals with their lead singer Ash. What fun we had. In two days it was done. Joe Benson from "Off the Record" fame loves it so much he wants to play it on his interview show I recently did. SO- yes I'm not only considering it .......I'm doing it and loving it.

I sure hope UJ will play it on the 10th!
It'll be a pleasure to hear SP doing some new vocals and hear the way he has approached this version of the song.

What WE don't know, is IF he did or didn't say something back then. We'll never (are not entitled to) know for sure.

My question was No. 10:

10) One of my favorite songs of yours is "Listen To Your Heart" - have you listened to yours lately? What does it say?
SP: Very good, personal question. You have no idea where my heart has been lately. Oh my my..........it's been to the moon and back. Only a few of my closest friends know exactly what's going on with me. I will tell you that listening to the many, many tracks during the re-mastering just about killed me. I went from how amazing some of them were to total recall memory overload and then to sadness that time has flown ....to emotional involvement in the music to... remembering the struggles and the joys we all had with each other making them. It was a roller coaster ride but a great one.

And my fave at #73

" I LOVE ALL CATS.......Me LOVE -KITTY- KITTY- KITTYS!!!! MEOW CITY!!!"

This feline is in!!

Which is why I said "I wonder..."

I could care less about knowing whether he did or didn't say anything. My comment was because Perry himself stated that people didn't understand and had he taken the time to inform people and they STILL didn't understand, then it's on them. If he did NOT take the time to tell them, having done so MIGHT have eliminated the tendency of others to make the negative comments about him.

Perry brought it up in his Q & A. Whether or not anyone is entitled to know is moot. It's not like he's telling us what "Keeping the promise" means and as I stated, it doesn't matter to ME one way or another if he told anyone about his not talking between concerts or not. It makes no difference to me. My only comment/concern was motivated by wondering IF he had mentioned to others and if so, it MIGHT have made it easier on HIM.
