Haven't listened to them in awhile, and listening to a boot from their 1st show in Allentown, PA. Damn Neal can really bring it  he tore up "Stand Up" I remember that show well, JSS owned that stage. Great show!

Why was the album disappointing? Any theories?
I mean, didn't it cost Schon several hundred thousand dollars at the end of the day?

Not disappointing to me, I listen to both versions all the time.

I have no clue how much it sold though.

Maybe I'm biased too because of Jeff, lol. And Marco! lol- No really, it's an awesome album IMO, great songs from amazing musicians, both Deen & Virgil are incredible drummers, I love the individual "stamp" each version has because of those 2. Just awesome stuff for the ears! :)

I think the reason this band never took off is because it was made by artists who are grouped into the "who cares" pile. Neal Schon has always been outshined in Journey by the memory of Perry, JSS's biggest claim to fame have been "Rock Star" (which his songs are killer and make me wish they recorded a whole album) and Malmsteen, Marco's is being Ted Nugent's bassist, Nugent who is well beyond his prime, and Virgil Donati who isn't well known in the states. Even though the music was good they needed a label to push the music which they couldn't find. The reason I'll guess is because the music company doesn't want to push a new super group of musicians who aren't well known and music that doesn't fit the "sound of the week" profile which is around currently. The music buisness would rather push a band of nobody's in hopes that if they hit it big could rape them musically. I unfortunetly knew Soul SirkUS wouldn't get off the ground much when Planet Us had trouble's landing a record deal.

It sucks nothing more happened with Soul Sirkus, but I'm sure glad it came to be. Awesome album
and one of the best live shows I've ever seen. Some of the best musicians in the world, along with
an incredibly dynamic front man.

And a set list of mostly new original material. :D And playing the absolute shit out of it.

Yeah, fair enough guys....I mean, I bought it with high expectations and I'm not for one minute questioning the musicianship on the album, I just felt the songs are a little.....bland?

Not sure if that's the right word, but there just isn't anything on the whole thing that excites me overly. Everything is good and it sounds great - just to me the songs aren't strong enough.
