Trial By Fire - Revisited

Postby NealIsGod » Thu Dec 07, 2006 4:36 am

OK, I am off today, so I am spinning TBF now for the first time in a very long time.

MOL - Of course, nobody doesn't like that tune. Journey all the way.

One More - Sucks. They rhyme "fire" and "desire". Nuff said. (alhtough I am digging Neal's outro)

More to come as I listen...

When You Love a Woman - Very good tune. Perry does a great job. And one of the best things to come out of this album is the video for this song, esp. when Perry steps aside so Neal can tear it up.

It took me awhile to appreciate the more "mature" sound of TBF. Now I really enjoy the cd as a whole.

The only song I can't get into is Colors Of The Spirit. Sounds like the theme song to Pocahontas to me....Maybe I can get past that one day.

If He Should Break Your Heart - Good for a pop song, like much of ROR. Just not Journey. Makes me realize that Perry with Journey would be a pop band. Journey with JSS is a rock band. Pure and simple.

Most sickening phrase ever sang by Perry:
"Forever, for-ev-ahh, in blu-uuu-uh"
Nice work from Neal, Perry's vocal on this one makes me puke.

One More-- the best drumming on any Journey song imo. Killer work from Smitty.

Yep, Perry steps aside to let Neal tear it up but...
Tell me you didn't get goosebumps the first time you saw
that videowith Perry in those tailz
for a few seconds doing that "Mic-Cord Shuffle"...

I was like, "Holy Fuck, They are BACK!"....
And then we waited... and waited... and waited...

Been listening to TBF to and really starting to dig it.
I, however, don't have the version that has "I can see it in your eyes"...
I hear this is a pretty great tune.
Love MOL, WYLAW, FIB, SETF, Break Your Heart...
Wow... guess I'm REALLY finely starting to dig this album :)

And Moon Diggity, I LOVE "Baby, I'm leavin' you"

It's alittle change up and I love it.
Just like the last track on the BE debut, "Don't Walk Away"...
A little change up in the routine but one of my favorite BEtunes :D

Forever in Blue - What were they thinking? Hate it. Perry's vocals are as silly as his kitty cat speech in his latest interview. The lyrics are boring and uninspired.

Love that part too.

I think TBF is an album that grows on you, which to me is the best kind. I absolutely love "Easy to Fall" and enjoy discovering the other gems. Just gets better, imo.

I think you just summed up why there is so much anger directed Perry's way in this forum.

The music, and the drums in particular, is why I do like this song alot. I guess I kind of tune out the lyrics on this one. I can't even think of more than maybe two lines of chorus. Just love the music on this tune.

Castles Burning - This is Journey? People complain that Gone Crazy strays too far from the Journey sound. This doesn't? Another one that, even though it is a rocker, doesn't grab me. Don't care for the keyboard sound in this one, either.

I think IHSBYH carries on in the Journey soft rock tradition of songs like SHML.
U dont like SHML, NIG?

Journey and JSS is not just a rock band, "Coming Home" is very mellow and borderline "pop".

Don't Be Down on Me Baby - This song is better than I remembered. Perry is soulful and Neal tears it up. Gotta put this one on the iPod.

Yeah, I love SHML. I was supposed to play it with Frontiers this Sat. night (sorry, Jeremey!). IHSBYH is a decent song, it's no SHML, but it's cool.

Let me clarify - Journey with Perry instead of Augeri would have been a pop band with a rock song or two on each record. It will be the opposite with JSS.

I love Neal's tone on that guitar. Great solo. Same with TBF.

Colors of the Spirit - Sounds like they wrote it for The Jungle Book. Belongs on a Toto album.
