Point is:

There REALLY isn't much Journey talk on this "best Journey forum on the internet".

"You do have JOURNEY talk on your JOURNEY forum, right" Hello? HELLO?"

OK, back to TBF. :D

LOVE this CD. Journey's best ever IMO. The only songs I ever skip are Forever in Blue and Colors of the Spirit. I'm not crazy about the sound nor lyrics of either of these songs. I have I Can See it in Your Eyes and I don't care for it.

Easy to Fall is my favorite track with MOL a close second. I think Trial by Fire is actually a better song than WYLAW. Even though WYLAW has a more classic Journey soaring sound to it, the sound that Steve's voice gives to the lyrics of TBF is beautifully and soulfully melancholy, and I think Neal's guitar work on it is the best possible example of his talent.

I think Can't Tame the Lion is a fan tribute. Listen to the words. We are the lion. We are always there "in a sea of emotion with faithful devotion".

I could go on and on about many of the songs, but I'll spare all of you that.

Did the Steelers deserve the "W" in last years Super Bowl?

Just curious. I say they don't, because I think the Seahawks were jobbed, BUT I respect the scoreboard. That game was more rigged than Augeri's mic. Hey, the scoreboard NEVER lies.

That is what I was just thinking after reading thru the prior posts...it would've been embarrassing if they came back after 10 yrs from ROR to act & sound like they did when they were in their 20s-early 30s. With the TBF CD, they showed they grew & evolved & didn't try to go for "what worked before"...I loved this CD the first time I heard it (with the exception of "one more" "castles burning" & "can't tame the lion" & "baby I'm a leaving you")...okay, so I love the MAJORITY of it. :) To me this CD is very introspective & emotionally retrospective. I also feel like "A Better Life" from Generations follows this vibe.

Totally agree...."A Better Life" does have a very similar mood to TBF...and is the best post-Perry song by a mile, I reckon. Hope there'll be a couple of melancholic, introspective numbers from Deen on the next album....

Regarding B,ILY I definately don't hate it. Always found that sound to suit Perry well and Neal proves a point or 2 about his own versatility.

remember when Nolie used Robin Venturas' dome as a speedbag? Ventura charges the mound and got throttled by the old man. Loved it.

You only like it because it features Deen doing his uncany Perry-impersonation.
As a song, it starts out promising and ultimately goes nowhere.
"Generations" is so starved of A-material that fans include ABL as one of the standouts.
Sad.

MOL - Of course, nobody doesn't like that tune. Journey all the way.

One More - Sucks. They rhyme "fire" and "desire". Nuff said. (alhtough I am digging Neal's outro)

More to come as I listen...

One More-- the best drumming on any Journey song imo. Killer work from Smitty.

Strong drumming. Best ever? :?

The bass line on this one just really amazed me - It was like Ross was driving some kind of musical power tool - and it just kept on going - then combined with Smitty's drums - fuckin' awesome

What in the hell language is this???? Oh wait a minute, it's "SPORTS". SORRY.

Have you seen those translators that appear down in the corner of your tv screen for the hearing impaired?

May Andrew could get us some translators down in the corner of the Forum - they could translate using flash cards when you guys start the Sports-speak again.

It would help those of us who are Sports-impaired.

CTTL reminds me of a song for the fans from the band. It touches on themes from E5C4P3 and Frontiers:

"In the midst of a dream I swear I saw you... standing there
In a sea of emotion with faithful devotion... you were there"

Fans at the concerts - the faithful

"In heat of the night under the street lights... once again"
Dont Stop Believin...

"At the edge of the fire"
Standing on the edge...Frontiers....

"One night in detroit, yes I swear I saw you... standing there
In a summer of dreams down by the river... you were there"

Stone in Love, DSB again...

Just my opinion. I always think of scenes from concert videos...

Sure - but it's actually got some emotion to it too - which Augeri's voice was never able to convey.

I'd say that ABL is a standout track of the entire post-Perry era and not just Generations - but you're right - the lack of an A-grade context makes it sound better than it is...

Maybe not in a affected Perry-esque way, but Augeri related the songs in his own way and was plenty emotive.

Can't agree with that.
The song just meanders on and on and on...
For that alone, it's not the best song of the post-Perry era.

Yes - maybe Deen duped me with his Perry impersonation - but is it possible that that is actually how he sings?

It's true that ABL does start to drift aimlessly in the last third - but many post-Perry tracks were a bit shapeless at times, don't you think?
