OT: Oz Bushfires

Postby Andrew » Fri Dec 08, 2006 11:04 am

Hi folks from abroad...

Spare a thought for us downunder this weekend as the drought driven fire crisis hits a crisis point tomorrow. Hasn't rained more than a shower or two anywhere in Southern Australia for months.

Not too bad here so far in Tassie - 14 bushfires burning at this point - but 32C (90F) forcast for tomorrow with high winds. Could get interesting.

But worst hit so far is Victoria - some 70 fires burning and 40C (104F) weather and gale force winds due to hit within 24hours. There's talk of the fires merging to become a 600,000ha big fire, with a dozen towns under threat.

Some info for those interested:

Damn, Andrew. You left home when a brushfire was burning, now there is more.

I will keep you, the family, and all of the affected areas in my thoughts and prayers.

Yeah, how dare Al Gore care about the environment. Just because Texas is a shithole and overrun by an oil idiot, blatantly saying Gore is off his rocker just exposes your shortsightedness. Come on Elizabeth, Gore has been proven right about his environmental issues and arguments, and although I wouldn't vote for him either, he is far from an idiot. Go praise that dumbshit in the Whitehouse who continues to fuck up this country day in and day out.

Andrew, we were just on fire for the last 3 weeks. 3 miles from our house and 10 miles from JSS's.

Stay safe bro, and stop deleting my fucking artistic posts!

Not scary here (as yet...) No major fires near me so far...

But the whole city stinks of smoke and is clouded in haze...

Main problem is in regional Victoria. Everyone hoping for the best, will post some updates over the weekend.

You're right Deano, Gore is a genius. He even invented the internet didn't he.

Bush may not be a rocket scientist but at least he's not getting his dicked sucked by anyone in the Oval Office other than his wife.

Thank God for firefighters everywhere...Hoping everyone in Oz stays safe.

(Texas is a great...I've lived in CA and OH too...both nice places, but not any better than my home state. And there are quite a few Texans that are concerned about the enviroment and wildlife conservation, especially as we are seeing the impact of a growing population on our once wild areas.)
