Should Journey pull a KISSOLOGY?

Postby RSParker » Fri Dec 08, 2006 1:16 pm

Why dont the guys, pull all the stops and put a DVD product out like KISS did, KISSOLOGY.
IF you dont have that, and you are a fan, that dvd set rocks! I think Perry and the guys would be fools not to do that! IMHO

They are fools if they don't release ANY vintage footage they have!
MAJOR CASH COW!
And releasing older compilations like a FRONTIERS or ROR tour DVDs wouldn't
hinder anything the band does in the future with Jeff.
If anything, releases of vintage stuff would keep the interest up...

Hello, Journey are big fools, obviously, where the fuck have you been! At least they sound good. Hell, nobody is perfect. I guess.

Great idea...wish they would put something together...they've got to have some stuff laying around that no one has seen.

There were rumors (i thought) of a Frontiers tour DVD that Perry was going to put together, similar to the Houston DVD, but his recent comments on that web interview he just did seem to put those to rest, sadly.

It would be pretty sweet...Kissology is the first archival Kiss thing that they've really got right, giving fans an entire new batch of archive material rather than a couple of scraps amidst hours of stuff fans already had (i.e. the box set). I wish more bands would release DVD packages modeled after Kissology and the Maiden one that came out awhile back.

Yes, sadly. That was #3 and I was the one who asked that question... here is what I said in it's original form -

(they cut off the end part in ( ) about the tails ...lol ... but I still love the idea so I'm gonna share with ya...)

"I was 7 years old when I became a fan (23 years ago!). I was too young to be able to go to the concerts then, so I'd like to know if there are plans for more concert material to be released on DVD like Houston '81 show? Houston Live is such an amazing DVD and it would be great to see more performances. The one I would most love to see is a complete show from the Raised On Radio tour (maybe including a slideshow of all the different tailcoats? Haha! *wink*). Thanks!!"

SP: To my knowledge, no plans.

On one hand, I'm disappointed in that answer (only cuz I was hoping for a yes!) BUT -- I sent 4 Qs and THAT was the one that I truly cared about getting an answer to and I got one, so I'm happy. And I know it's not all up to SP what gets released either. The record company and the band would need to be on board too. So that's ok. :D

If SP can get Sony to re-release FTLOSM, an album very few people cared about the first time around, I'm sure he could get them to release another archival Journey project. All the footage is there, someone just needs to go clean it up a little and throw it on a DVD.

This was talked about YEARS ago by Jonathan. He said they were thinking about releasing a "video box set".

Gee, I wonder which past member of the band would not like that idea...unless he had total control over it?

It will never happen...you're lucky you got what you did, IMO.

KISSOLOGY??????????? Please. Kiss is a marginal band that capitalized on makeup, smoke and mirrors. While they DO have some great songs, they essentially suck. At best, they're a bunch of Jews who've milked their fans dry (condoms and coffins) . Oh wait, Journey, at this point, would fit right in. Especially with Azoff. Journey SHOULD be above that. Perry might disagree, but it's time to move on. "Forward" would be THE best name for their new album. That's of course IF Perry cuts off ties. He's in the the preliminary talks  of new stuff. Steve, pull the trigger. It's ALWAYS up to him. He basically runs Journey. He has, for some time. THAT is a fact.

Doubt it will happen. According to one of the interviews with Herbie, Sony now owns the vaults in terms of video stuff.

If you've seen the pro shot stuff that aired on Japanese TV from 80, 81, and 83 as well as the other various stuff out there (Soundstage, a few 78 shows), you know there's enough material to do it right. Too bad it will only have to circulate in collector circles.

Hate on Kiss all you want. Kissology is an outstanding release. They took many of the pro-shot bootlegs that have been in fan circles for years and cleaned them up and released them. Add to that a 1977 Largo, MD show that no one had ever seen.

Kissology is 3 discs of archival footage and only goes up to 1977. 2 more volumes are planned. Journey would do well to emulate a release like this.

BTW, Kiss is what got me hooked into rock when I was in 1st grade. They may not be the best musicians, but they have tons of great songs and put on the BEST live shows. No one comes close.

Drinking already I see.

Dude, what in the fuck are you, Myopic?

No one does it better?

Ever heard of

The Rolling Stones?
Bruce Springsteen?
Journey with Steve Perry?

That's three right off the bat.

I can name 40 more if you like.

All pale. Stones SUCK live. I have seen them.

Kiss are fun and blow shit up.

Ask Steven Tyler about the tour when Kiss went on first and people were leaving during the Aerosmith set. They said "never again".

Just to add, Paul Stanley just did a solo tour. Never bring up Perry again. He hasn't sang in over 10 years fuckface.

BOTH Paul Stanley and Steve Perry are gay. It is a known fact.

See that loons. I think 2 of my favorite singers in the world are gay.

Admittedly, Perry does lose points for not having done absolutely jack shit for 10 years now. Even Axl Rose managed to go out and do some concerts, even if he can't release his album.

I'm with Deano on Springsteen...he has to do all the work yet still looks like he's having more fun than anyone else in the arena.
