Sly Confirms Today: No Survivor in Rocky Balboa

Postby Red13JoePa » Fri Dec 15, 2006 1:35 am

....New OR old. Guess the closest we get is Eye in the trailer.

Big disapointment.

Source is a Q&A he did at AintItCool.com. Look at round 13, I think (if not it's 12).

I just read the Q&A...Very interesting.Sly is a very open-minded guy,I like the way he answered to everything.

Just to make it easier for everyone, here's the link to the Q&As: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/30965

The Survivor thingy is the last Q answered.

"No, there will not be any Survivor songs in ROCKY BALBOA, but I’ve been walking around with the phrase, “Eye of the Tiger,” in my head for many years, and eventually wrote it into ROCKY III. They were a new group, and I gave the script to a producing team and label called Scotti Brothers, who owned the group Survivor. They pulled the phrase out of the script and wrote the song. When I first heard it I couldn’t believe my ears - it was too good to be true. I played it for a group of Teamsters and said, “Tell me if I’m crazy - is this great or what?” They said, “We love it.” This is one time when a pig and a poke morphed into a pearl."

Too bad.
But I am eagerly waiting for the movie to get on my side of the world, hopefully by the beginning of next year.

Now I'm wondering how much it might've had to do with Jamo's ouster/quitting.

When Jimi was in the fold, FS said (without really saying) that REACH had found an amazing new home, and we would be blown away.

Out goes Jimi, and we have a soundtrack of rap

What were the options with out Jim? Put it on the movie and promote a song with the singer being in the group? Sly wanted want that IMO. Or rerecord with out JIM? As of now I am still very up in the air about Robin. Not much of a choice-ERIC

What would have been a great shot in the arm for Survivor is not to be. I wonder what direction they will go. They only played a handful of shows last year, they didn't promote their CD, changed singers, promised us the moon and we are still waiting. I still love their music, wish Jimi was still singing with them even though I think Robin is a great guy, it's just not the same without Jimi. Jimi has the greatest voice in the biz. I don't think the choice by Stallone had anything to do with Jimi, I had heard that Stallone and Frankie were good friends. Maybe it was one of those many nasty rumors that goes around in the biz.

Well, 4 had Eye of course w/ Dave out front...but it also included Burning Heart.
Their options would've been to offer to overdub the songs w/ mcCauley if sly was queasy about using Jamo verisons.

We should've known this would happen w/ an uber proactive ( ) band like Survivor.
