Should Augeri come back at all?

Postby metal rednex » Fri Dec 15, 2006 5:40 am

We all know that JSS is just "filling in" for the time being, but with such a huge response, should Journey keep Augeri? I have talked to many that feel that JSS just fits the energy and attitude of the band in 2006. Augeri fits the band for 1997.

I don't think you are going to get a very warm (ie. friendly) reaction to this. Most here are of the opinion/belief that Jeff Scott Soto is the lead singer of Journey. The overwhelming belief is that Augeri was out the day he left the tour, and that plans for his ousting were in the works well before that.

I will always be an Augeri fan, would like to see him in Journey, but it is not what journey needs now. JSS is the future for Journey (since Kevin can't do it :D )-ERIC

Seriously. I was never a fan of Augeri, not at all - wouldn't listen to anything solo or anything from another group, only listened to him because of Neal and Jonathan. I know Steve Augeri seems like a nice guy, and he is! no doubt. But for me, I can't accept it - never have and never will!. JSS on the otherhand is my kind of singer, thats the type of vocalist I like to hear! - just my opinion!

I can understand that.. The thing that helped and hurt Augeri was that he could do good sounding like Perry. I liked that a lot, but that hurt his voice, it even hurt Perry sounding like Perry. If you listened to Tall Stories or tyketto, Augeri doesn't sound like Perry. They never got to do Augeri in journey. Everything had to be Perry minded (not a bad thing), but at times Generations did let him shine a little, when he wasn't trying to do Perry. So trying to sound like Perry got him the job, but was curse till the end.-ERIC

Does anyone really think at this point he would? And, what? pretend like nothing happened? It does seem like JSS has the job now -- and maybe we will all find out...someday.

Yes Augeri should return
Its not his fault that Neal burned out his voice
Lets just keep switching singers every few years so Neal can cash checks
Im sorry but to play for the love of money does not excite me at all.
Augeri did nothing to lose his job other than work his ass off.

JSS is the singer of JRNY Circus not JRNY

Sorry....but Augeri coming back now would bore me to tears! JSS has brought some new excitement, is a great songwriter, and has a broader range....seems to be able to do it all! Nothing against SA....but if he can still sing...I think he should do Tall Stories or something. I prefer the power and vitality that Jeff brings to Journey.
....and Espee is never coming back....so there it is.

I'm beginning to wonder if Jeff will actually become a full member of Journey or a temp..Jeff doesn't seem like the type who would want to be tied down to one band..Hmm :?:

I think he could do both...alot of people have. He could do Journey and still do other things...like Talisman. Different sound between the bands music...not competeing. He seems to like to stretch himself and have some variety going on. Guy's a workhorse, but seems to love the challenge.

I agree with this, to a point.

Journey started screwing up when they didn't take a break to record a new, proper, album after "Main Event". THAT would have been the time to do it. But, they toured, and toured, and toured some more...even when they told everybody, "Yeah, we're going to take a break this year..." It was endless.

As for today, I don't think he's coming back...and I doubt it will make one iotta of a difference if he did, or didn't, or if someone else besides JSS took over. Journey's fan base is as fucked up as it ever could possibly be.

It's ironic that people are talking about Dee Snider in the other thread...He said on VH1's "History of Metal" something like, "The original fanbase turned their back on us. Once you lose the fans that got you there, then it's over." He was talking about "glam" in general, not just Twisted Sister.

THAT is what is going to eventualy happen with Journey. Some fans left after Perry. Some will leave after Augeri. And, *I* think some are someday soon going to think, "Fuck it...it's just not worth it any longer."

And, when that happens, Journey will be where Styx is.

At this point, I don't care if Rollie, Perry, Augeri or JSS sings. I'm a fan of the music with all era's - I'm just tired of the dirty dozen.

You've stated repeatedly that with AUgeri gone and JSS in, ticket sales will go down and the band now has to start all over again from the bottom.
Why the change of tune?

No offense because you know I like you OS but this really shows that JRNY is only as popular as there frontman.
I say let Neal sing lead its his band
Then lets see how many fans are left
Its only the cutties now that attract JRNY girls,
Let slet Ross front the band why not,

What can I say Froy darlin'.? I like you too, but yeah, it really is all about the frontman for me because it was the frontman that led me to them in the first place. I like Neal's melodic guitar work, and I like Jon's keyboard work, I like the songs that the chemistry between Perry/Schon/Cain brought to Journey, and I think there's a lot of chemistry yet to be tapped with Jeff. But when it comes to the performance of Journey songs it's all about the voice that delivers them for me. :)

I said this elsewhere, but the only way Steve could come back from this would be with a vengeance. He would have to sing like he has something to prove! (Because he would) He would have to drop some of the nice guy routine and go for what he wants...grab Journey and their fans by the balls and squeeze. Live and on record he would need to be 150% ON!! Sadly, I don't see that as a possibility.

I look forward to Steve finding "his voice" again and working within his realistic limitations. Tall Stories? You bet. Solo? Maybe.

Where's the change in tune?

All this entire scenerio proves is that Journey is a band that has no loyalty to their members and can switch them in and out as the wind changes. The DO have to start all over again, building back that relationship with their fans and everybody else who has supported them...all of which has gone completely to HELL over the past few months.

And, I have said, REPEATEDLY that it no longer matters who is the lead singer of Journey...they've jumped the shark.
