I see a lot of frustration here, there, and everywhere. It's not easy being a JOURNEY fan. Never has been.

JOURNEY's history of change rightly echoes the implication of their name! JOURNEY has always been about change - evolution. If you can't recognize this or accept it then prepare to be frustrated even more so than those who can!

While it may be "clear" to so many that JSS is the new lead singer I have to be respectful regarding JOURNEY's last word: that SA is out on sick leave and may return. I don't have a problem with waiting to hear an official update. I'm a patient person by nature and find my own personal life much more compelling than anything regarding JOURNEY.

However I've been compelled to change my avatar. I used to have a phoenix gazing up at a JOURNEY logo but I think my new bird is more fitting. It seems to be hanging in a cosmic limbo much like JOURNEY is at the moment.

Ultimately, no matter what happens the fire in the soul remains. I'll always be a JOURNEY fan.

Ur right Fyre. (Forgive me for abbreviating ur post here but those are the most important points IMHO.) The early fans of Journey were pissed when they brought in Perry. Some were pissed when Perry left. Others are pissed that Augeri is gone.

I was never an Augeri fan, but I'll always enjoy his Tall Stories song "Sister of Mercy". Awesome song IMHO. I've just become a huge Soto fan from listening to his HUGE back catalogue of music. Wow! It's impressive. I admire the hell out of him for jumping in mid-tour & saving this band. He didn't just do that, he also did it well. That takes guts & a whole lot of talent. From listening to his older music, the guy has done incredible things w/his voice over the years & taking on this catalogue of music took him to another level again. What a talent! It amazes me to think he wasn't "a household name" years ago. I often stop & wonder if any of us would ever have heard of Steve Perry if he hadn't joined Journey. I bet we'd never have heard of Steve Augeri. & we may not have heard of Jeff either. Interesting, huh?

I'll always be a Journey fan, I'll always be a Perry fan, & I'll always be a JSS fan. If Neal leaves & Journey continues w/out him, I reserve the right to change my opinion on Journey tho.

I think you're abbreviation is valid.

Say what you will but when I read JSS's website - how he describes his songs and thought process I actually feel a kind of affinity with him. I have similar feelings when I read Keats, Richard Bach, Christopher Durang, and so many others. Kindred spirits and all that crap.

Anyway, I don't really know much about JSS. I sent him a PM explaining that I don't really want to, either! I know too much about JOURNEY and I kind of creep myself out. I asked him what he considers his defining work. He never answered. Maybe it's on his website and I've missed it. What do you consider to be his defining work?

Regarding Neal leaving JOURNEY. I doubt that JOURNEY wold continue on without him but if it were to happen I'd still be a JOURNEY fan. I may or may not be a fan of whatever music a Schon-less JOURNEY produces but I'd still be a JOURNEY fan.

I get what u mean about Jeff & his songs. He has that connection w/the music he sings, that feeling. I wish there were websites back in the day. I bet Perry might have shared his feeling about his songs the same way. All we have are a few interviews here & there from those days tho!

Jeff's defining work? Gosh, I really don't know. I first heard him w/SS & liked him, but I never bought the album. I liked his stage presence but the music didn't grab me. I recently started exploring his catalogue. I liked his Queen stuff, but I'm a big Queen fan, so I figured that wasn't a fair way to judge the guy. There is sooooooooo much stuff he's done that it takes a while to explore it all. A lot of people said Lost In The Translation was his best album. I like it, don't get me wrong, but after I listened to some of his other stuff, it paled. His first solo album, Love Parade is incredible. I love that his son designed the cover. That says something to me about the kind of man he is. Maybe I'm just being a chick here, but I'm a chick who doesn't have & never wanted kids, soooooooo. His next album, Prism, is my favorite. I love the whole album from first listen. Some of his songs w/Talisman just blow my mind. I have listened to songs like "Mysterious" & "Skin on Skin" & pontificated on why on earth they never made it to the US charts & just how successful they might have been. I love Jeff's work w/Eyes. "Walking Fire" is another song that could easily have been an instant hit. His Ku De Ta demos show another side of him again & are just beautiful to listen to. Moving on to Human Clay, wow! To me, that's sort of an extension of Talisman, but w/its own style.

The great thing about Jeff is there is just so much stuff he's done. From his solos, to the work above, to covers he has done. U can delve into it for weeks & still not quite be done. It's well worth the time too. He has some great gems in there that make u wonder why u never heard them before.

All this from someone who just wasn't sure he was right for Journey at first. I've become a HUGE fan & I think he's the best thing that happened to Journey since Steve Perry. Really! U have to check out his catalogue. There is almost certainly a song or two that will blow ur mind. Trust me.

HUGE Jeff fan here, can't really add anything other than JRox already said, other than do yourself a huge favor & get your hands on anything he's done.

JRox- glad to see someone else likes Love Parade too, I love it. I love the song he did for his son, "Friend". And yes the cover is awesome, what an artist! :)

LITT is my fav of Jeff's.

Fyre or whatever his name is. Extols the brilliance of Journey's debut album which first made him/her/it love Journey, then later says he/she/it would be a fan of Journey even without Neal, which is maybe the stupidest thing I've ever seen on this board.

"Friend" is a great song. I was very touched by it. Listening to all of Jeff's stuff really makes u realize what a talented songwriter he is. Lots of feelings that he can translate into music. That spark together w/Neal & Jon ought to make for some really good songs!

I think I might have to say Prism is my favorite. Then, I love Cats & Dogs by Talisman next.

U know what's really fun? Discovering ALL this new music that I like. I feel like a kid in a GIANT candy store.

It's simply a matter of being a JOURNEY fan and NOT a JOURNEY fan by default because I'm a fan of any particular band member. I was a JOURNEY fan during every lineup change and musical experiment they've made.

Retard...sick puppy...WOW. What an impressive vocabulary and power of expression.

That's a nice overview!

The one that stood out to me is Prism because you said it's your favorite. I'll put that on my list to check out. I haven't a clue as to the content of this album but I've always been fascinated by the implications of a Prism. How it separates light into its component colors. There's a lot of poetry in that.

You're preaching to the choir on that! I've been crying this same song for several years. I haven't seen JOURNEY since 1998 because I have absolutely no interest in hearing the greatest hits over and over again.

I've always supported JOURNEY moving on. I've supported "cracking the stone" - grind it up into powder and make concrete to pave a new road - but it has yet to happen.

For someone who HATES BT - particularly after the olive branch was slapped from your hands - I'm amazed that you visit there at all!

Truly - you really do NOT have a clue regarding my post. You don't and it's sad.

I LOVE it! Where's Carlitto? I can't wait for him to run to your side and tell me to "move on" and end my "crusade" against you. It's clear who's on the crusade - you're compelled to bring my post from BT (despite the fact that I also placed the SAME post here) in order to somehow discredit me. Really - don't you have anything better to do like chat with Neal and JSS in a 3-way?

I'm so jealous of you. Have fun tonight with whoever you're insinuating you'll be with. I'll be home with my wife and 3 boys having the time of our lives eating popcorn, watching movies, playing football, and tickling each other until we can't breathe.

Hey Fyre,

Wouldn't it be funny if we never hear officially about Augeri? It probably wouldn't matter either. As far as frustration with or between fans of Journey, I think it's like that with every well liked band when there are personnel changes. Can't be helped and as Cronkite would say..."That's the way it is." :D

Fyre - Journey without Perry is scraping the barrel - but without Schon? There really would be no point at all then....

But I guess it's like a supporting a sports team...it's hard to shake off a loyalty even if the team hasn't won anything for years and is languishing in the lower leagues....and even I would probably buy a Journey album with just Cain and Valory on it...even if it depressed me to do so.

That's exactly what I would do as Manager. Why announce anything? That way, there is no admittal og guilt and the band moves on, and can spin the answer to the question in every interview they do, and it will never officially be wrong. Those here, KNOW what the reason is, and that's all that matters anyway.

That way, there is no admittal og guilt and the band moves on, and can spin the answer to the question in every interview they do, and it will never officially be wrong. Those here, KNOW what the reason is, and that's all that matters anyway.

While I kind of agree with you Deano, I think that Journey needs to start doing things the right way and this would be a step in the right direction. Publicly thank Augeri for his contributions (even though they were minimal/none) and announce JSS or whoever as the new lead singer and move on. Ultimately, I think that's what they'll do.

It makes no difference to me whatsoever if I get an explanation. I'm in it for the music. As long as Journey keeps making music I like, I'll keep buying the music, the concert tix, etc. All the rest of the bullshit is just that. Bullshit.

And I wouldn't be surprised if that's what happens. It's been this long. If they actually make an announcement (as opposed to just "staying the course" - forgive the Bushism), that would likely stir the entire thing up again, and for what purpose? :)

JRox- glad to see someone else likes Love Parade too, I love it. I love the song he did for his son, "Friend". And yes the cover is awesome, what an artist! :)

LITT is my fav of Jeff's.

Me too!! I love all the new stuff I'm finding! LOVE PARADE is very funky--Jeff just shines in this genre! And ballads! and rock! and metal! and pop! waiting for CATS and DOGS and 5 MEn LIVE so I don't know about that yet. I've heard they are the best TALISMAN. LITT is one of the best albums I have ever had--I told Jeff so in OKC. It is all around quality.

I love this guy. my brothah.

And he helps the JOURNEY continue.......

And it's no different than what happens in any business. I always love it when someone leaves or gets canned and the announcement is made that is pretty much the standard "We're parting ways as friends and we wish each other the best in future endeavors." Life continues. It doesn't matter.

If Journey opts not to make any official announcement, the band will simply continue without Augeri and life will move forward. In other words, whether the band does or doesn't make an announcement, Journey will look the same as they do now. :)

JOURNEY's history of change rightly echoes the implication of their name! JOURNEY has always been about change - evolution. If you can't recognize this or accept it then prepare to be frustrated even more so than those who can!

Nothing has changed in the JRNY camp
The songs are all the same show after show
Just a different guy singing them,

The JRNY book needs closure not over exposure,

You're preaching to the choir on that! I've been crying this same song for several years. I haven't seen JOURNEY since 1998 because I have absolutely no interest in hearing the greatest hits over and over again.

I've always supported JOURNEY moving on. I've supported "cracking the stone" - grind it up into powder and make concrete to pave a new road - but it has yet to happen.

Oh my friend you have missed a lot of great music. yup the same music. as I said, a lot of great music. and live. there is nothing like it. over and over? yea. over and over.

and on to 2007! over and over.

I think right now it's not WHAT the official word is gonna be, it's just THAT WE HAVE YET TO HEAR IT, after weeks/months of anticipating it. Of course we KNOW what the reason is, but it would still be nice to hear something officially from the leadership of the band. And to me, that is Neal. I want him to stand up and take charge, and be the leader that most people here think he should be. I know there's still stuff to work out, and I'm willing to wait for it, but I do think they do need to make an announcement. Only then will there be a chance to truly move on with Jeff. JMO.
