I do believe he is a talented singer, but he doesn't have the voice required to sing Journey music in my opinion. Most of the time he was drowned out by the music...but there were a few songs where there was no hiding (Don't Stop Believin' in particular). I am very disappointed that Journey has decided to make JSS there new lead man, and I wish they (including Perry) would take some tips from Def Leppard on what it means to be a band and stick by each other.

This summers tour was successful because of the incredible double bill of Lep/Journey...but those around me who were sober enough agreed that JSS didn't embody the vintage Journey sound. At each concert, it was always Def Leppard who stole the show.
Unless Journey tours with another big name like Leppard, they had better get used to playing fairs and plummeting ticket sales.

jrnyfan74 wrote:We all clearly have our own opinions...but the proof will be in the ticket and media sales when they release an album with JSS and try to tour by themselves promoting their "new sound". I saw Leppard in 2003 touring by themsleves, and they almost sold out Rupp Arena. Do you think Journey could do that now with their current lineup? Of course, the apologist here will say yes, but we all know there is no freakin way. Hell, I saw Journey with REO and STYX 3 times, and not 1 time was it ever sold out! The point is, is that the large majority want Perry back period. Live in your dream worlds if you like...but that is the FACT.

What a load of BS that is. The newspaper reviews I've read indicate Journey was the better of the two bands. While DL might have been good, they were upstaged by Journey.

AR's got the Baltimore vids of Journey AND Lep. Lep is so bad it's laughable.

Ask him to throw up a Lep clip if he has time. That would be the proof in the pudding.
100% correct - prior to July 7th.jrnyfan74 wrote:... At each concert, it was always Def Leppard who stole the show...

shoot_em_up wrote:All you gotta do is give this guy some time. He's brand new to Journey. JSS is a very talented man, he just needs some time from 'us', the Journey fans. Let this guy prove hisself. You can't base your opinion of a singer, when he hasn't had a chance. This poor guy came in, in the middle of a tour and has done his absolute best to keep this band going. That in itself is monstrous! JSS is still adjusting to a whole different style than he's used to. Talisman doesn't do Journey music, and God knows Yngwie doesn't. It will take time. His voice is strong. It isn't just like Steve Perry's, and it isn't just like Steve Augeri's. Jeff's voice is his own. But he will, and I guarantee it, do his best to sing the songs of the past in the original Journey style. He will probably in the future with Journey, record music that is more of his own style. Don't rush to judge or bash it, give it a chance. Jeff's still in a learning period with Journey. He's been in the music industry for a long time. New styles to old dogs take time. I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised in the eventual future. All we have to do is give this brave soul a chance.
I know you good folks will be happy when it's all said and done.
Happy Holidays to all of you.

Def Leppard was good, too, but they really struggled on a few of their songs. "Love Bites" was probably as bad as it could be, but "Rocket" was fantastic! Most of the people I went to the concert with left after Journey finished (and the fuckers wound up spending time with Neal!J/K) but I'm glad we stayed to see DL.
Def Leppard was not in Journey's league on November 10, IMO.
