Journey CBS Early Show performance 2001

I'm still converting and uploading uploading the rest of the segments but here's the first two.

I had to use the worst converting quality to get them under 100MB so please forgive the bad picture quality.

Part 1: Vignette of "Lovin', Touchin, "Squeezin'" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27lq2k4aRcg

Part 2: "Higher Place" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1Eve0l-YGk

Part 3: "Anyway You Want It" (1of2....was too big to upload in one part) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C968PIcfwMQ
AWYW cont'd....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIBem5Lp0kY

Two things to watch/listen for:

1. Steve's nervousness when talking to the interviewer (I forget his name)...he stumbles over his words and stutters a little, I wonder what brought on his attack of nerves.

2. Ross's too loud and out of tune background vocals.

Part 4: "Don't Stop Believin" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6YwCdS3ycM

Don't stone me...

I was expecting a LOT worse. It sounded like early Augeri to me. Not bad, except for a little strain when he tried to hit the high notes.

Edit: I have only watched Higher Place... I will watch LTS in a bit

Comparing Augeri then to later Augeri, he didn't do that badly.

Comparing him to Soto or Perry is a different animal all together.

I was expecting a train wreck like when he sang live this year. Higher Place wasn't nearly as bad as this year's live performances (all 1 or 2 of them).

Ok now I get what ur saying. I only heard one of this yr's LIVE performances. Yes it was worse. So were his performances from early 2005 when he was live.

But this is a true tragedy that this was on TV. I am embarassed for the guys.

Hence no more t.v. and tapegate... At least to those of us who believe the truth about the whole situation.

ummm...wow. HAHA. I just watched the Higher Place clip. Did SA just wake up? Because it seems like he's in a yawn and has nothing to his voice. He barely goes for the high notes, and makes no attemp to raise his voice so you can hear him. I'm dissapointed in this clip because I backed him on many occasions. Either that or quality for sound on the clip is a bit lacking, but overall, not impressed.

Here's one I found of them performing Liberty. Never saw this. If anyone wants to take a look

He sounds a lot better on anyway you want it, couldnt get LTS to work just see the announcer and then it stops, i see Neal smiling with Steve A during AYWI, first song was rough for him and it was obvious he was nervous--real obvious that Jon was into it as well.

That DSB made me want to cry.

He couldn't even hit the notes after "...streetlight people...".
I had to go play the entire Evolution album just to wash my ears out.

This whole appearance was just fucking embarrasing
I can't for the life in me understand how ANYONE would think this man did justice to the Journey name.
Please stop with the Augeri is better than Perry because he never was and never will be and here is your proof. :D

One more thing, Perry sounded absolutely 100x's better on the white sox rally than this 2001 Augeri performance.
(hangs head in shame) :?

All the Perry bashing & the bashing of his fans for what? For this? Jesus Almighty! :?

Actually, both performances are a riot.
Perry sounded like chaffed ass when he sang to the crowd....like Joe Cocker in an iron lung...only less range.

I'll tell you...After watching that performance of "Don't Stop Believin'", I don't know how the staunchest Augeri supporter can feel good about that. That's the most compelling piece of video I've ever seen that demonstrates the poor bastard simply has zero shot of singing in the range that is necessary to pull off Journey's catalogue. I actually felt badly for Augeri watching that. The guy tried his ass off to hit the high notes, but simply couldn't do it. It only further illustrates just what a vocal genius Perry was back in his days with Journey!

You want to talk train wrecks on morning TV - anyone see Fleetwood Mac when they played on the Today Show to promote the "Say You Will" CD? Brutal.

Dont want to dog on Augeri...think he could sing alright ( for a while, anyway) and I like the songs, like Higher Place, but this shows exactly why I couldn't really get into Journey with SA and lost interest.....The lack of power in the vocals and the lack of passion in the songs. Jeff has both so looking forward to what he'll bring. 8)
