Gold Gold Gold :)

I'll also get the audio from my San B DVD sorted in the new year - that's awesoem also. But the show is in 2DVDs and 1 file per DVD, so I need to re-edit before finalizing.

LOL whatever, just post some clips and proof next time you wanna get into this. In the meantime, just make fun of leppard for being washed up man-whores  And enjoy my X-Mas present to the Journey masses.

Thanks so much for this Barb! :) Merry Christmas :) :)

About the background vocals thing....I think they're samples or something. I remember, in 2001, asking someone associated with the band (he was called RJ I think) if Jon used a vocoder.

I got a terse "no" in reply. lol

it´s great, but they forgot to take the click track out of the mix....(f.e. Open arms at around 1:30, it even switches from a shuffeld click to straight eights)...
it´s the click for the others, whenever Deens not playing...

Journey has been doing this for years regarding backing vocals.. they purchased the first
Lexicon Prime Time digital delays sold in this country, for example.
They have had sample racks since the early days. Background vocals
have been added since BEFORE Steve Perry (tape and click track)..

Its pretty common knowledge. Most bands have them. Nothing wrong with it, Its a common thing.

I know, I was just giving rap_still_sucks a little ribbing because there he started a big thread on the Leppard board about how he thought Leppard used backing vocals (they don't), and he could never offer up any proof. I honestly don't have a real problem with the backing vocals pre-recorded--my favorite band U2 does it. My biggest issue is when the bands use the pre-recorded stuff to replace the music...see TAPEGATE!!!

GO JSS!!!

it's a little bit annoying hear the metronome in slow songs like Open Arms.

Hi brian, and welcome to Melodic Rock !

The megaupload file for the Reno show is an mp3, so you can download, extract ( you will need WinRAR if you don't have that to extract the files.......) and then burn !

What exactly is a "click track" you can clearly hear as stated above. Is it used for too keep time ( muscial time that is :D ), kindda too keep the band all at the same pace as a conductor would at an orchersta ?? Just kindda wondering. They hear this track through their own ear moniters?
Thanks for the help and thanks again for the awesome show, still not all the way through, only have a 5 mile ride too work .

Thanks for pointing me to the reno boot...
Journey uses taped background vocals and that's okay with everyone??? Isn't that kind of hypocritical? How come nobody's crucifying them?
I don't know what you guys are listening to, but this boot still features a struggling lead vocalist.
While Jeff does okay on some songs (the lower ones), and sounds better than some other boots, he's still totally straining
on the high notes. For Journey, it doesn't cut it. Listen to the pitch on "Separate Ways" - "Love divides___"
are you kidding me? What are you guys listening to? This is terrible. "Wheel in the Sky" more strain and pitch problems.
DSB is the same story. "Escape" sounds PAINFUL for him. Come on, Journey fans need better than this.

If this was not JSS and just some guy they found somewhere who could work the crowd and do the songs like on this bootleg, people would be all over the band saying how bad it was.
Jeff's a great vocalist, but not here. How can you guys say this sounds good?

If the band moves forward and leaves the Perry stuff behind, they will do great. If they have to go out and play "the dirty dozen" it doesn't cut it.
Is there a more recent boot?

bry,, yep , he struggles on some , and if this was still the case then ok,, but now,, hes nailing these songs.. hes voice is strong and powerful,, have you seen the boots from baltimore,, holy smokes!!! he is hitting these songs out of the park , in the original keys ,, i think its the fact that we didnt give up on him in the frist 3 months of his arriving,, and he did not let us down ... i ve rediscovered music i never knew existed because of jeff.. and now that writing power house is on our team... its all fun from here on out... perfect scenario for late 2007----new journey with jss, new steve agueri, new perry(hes thinking aobut it , ya know).... gonna be a killer year!!!! 8)

That's what I keep hearing. I WANT to like the guy with the band. He's a cool guy. But I NEED to hear a good show and I have yet to hear one.

Is there a more recent boot of him that's good?

This might be a good one to put out to stud forever. This song must be REALLY hard to pull off though the 4 JDouble shows I have he does it seemingly without flaw.
And if there was a way to actually guage wich individual number produced the most damage to Augeri, I'd put money on this one. The boots both Augeri and Castronovo are audibly killing themselves to get through the song.

And I realize it's Deen's favorite song to drum by, but take a bullet for the team and tell Neal it can be ixsnayed or else JSS may not be visiting you on your riser 8 years from now.

I personally think it's really lame. I'd rather see them add a 6th musician onstage for live shows (lots of bands tour with auxilliary musicians...hell, Fleetwood Mac has more extra musicians than band members on tour) and between the 6th guy and Deen, you wouldn't need the tapes. Find a guy (or girl) with ridiculous range and have him/her play extra keys or rhythm guitar, but mostly have them there to sing harmonies. Sure, it wouldn't sound 100% like the records, but it'd be all live.

I understand the supposed need for B-vox tapes, since the studio records are Perry overdubbing his voice into 3 and 4 part harmonies, and no one else in the band except Deen can recreate those. But I think adding an extra voice onstage would eliminate the need for any kind of technical vocal assistance.

A lot of bands do this, I know Toto uses a lot of it and it bugs me with them too. It doesn't ruin my enjoyment of the show (like, say a lip-synching lead singer would) but it just comes off as really lame, especially when there's still people onstage pretending to sing the stuff you know is coming from a tape (like the backup vocals in "Pamela").
