Who actually heard Augeri live??

Postby bionic » Fri Dec 29, 2006 5:47 pm

I have seen Journey live with Augeri 4 times, Manchester and Monsters of Rock in the UK plus Greek Theatre L.A and the Oakland benefit show. By all accounts he only sang live at the Oakland benefit show? I was wondering how many other people have actually never heard only seen Augeri live, its a strange thought :?

I have seen Journey with SA well over 15 times. My personal opinion even before the lipping stuff was he sucked unless it was an indoor show or at an amphitheatre and you were under the shell.

In 2001 I saw them on 3 times in a week. The first was in Camden, NJ., an amphitheater and i sat in row 10. I was blown away and he sounded awesome.

That posessed me drive up to Scranton and see them at Montague, and outdoor venue with tents that looked like you were at a giant family reunion, just awful.

I figured Scranton was a fluke, so the next week I drove to Delaware to see them play at the Blue Rocks stadium. It was better but still not even close to the first performance I saw.

The one constant in the SA era was the music. I never saw Neal, Deen, Ross or Jon have a bad night. The music was always tight. I, like so many was just happy to have Journey back.

Yeah and I regret it. I actually though Leppard was better that night. Yeah, dcvader, I met him at State College on the 30th anniversary tour.

Absolutely on both accounts. I remember him having a Faithfully ringtone and saying to myself, "Wow, I thought I was hardcore"

Saw Augeri 5 times

1998 Sunrise Muscial Theater was blown away and happy to have Journey back !!

1999w/ forginer West Palm Beach Great show

2001 Arrival had second row seats from the fan club ( remember how cool that was no inflated chrges just good tickets)
great show

2003 Boca raton not a great performance but not as good as the past, the set list made up for what was lacking and Deen sang After Ther Fall and Mother, Father

2005 Hard Rock Live at the time I couldnt place my finger on it but he was just ok at times and better on some songs

1998-2001 was the best time for SA

Thrice....'99, '01 and a "tainted" show in '05 in AC.

Loved him each time...but, and I have the boot to verify, I thought he sounded best Camden '99.

I have attended a Journey concert every year since Augeri joined the band. I have always had a wonderful experience, sat up-close and comfy and have no complaints.

I am a huge fan of Jon Cain so it's all good to me! As long as he and Neal are around - I'm a happy camper!

Twice on the 2001 Arrival Tour....He was very, very good. Possibly his best sounding tour especially when i go through all the boots with him at the helm.

Also the Manchester 2006 show. The least said about that the better.

Overall though i liked Augeri. To me he did a good job out there.

I am still extremely dubious regarding JSS. Not convinced by any of the boots from the tour with Leppard, and i haven't seen him live with the band as yet. Next years UK tour will be the yay or nay for me. It will tell let me know once and for all.

See, having heard the boots I've no doubts about JDouble in this band...an interesting thing that speaks to one of the pluses a lot of feel he has, versatility, is that I think he sounds very different singing Journey than he does on World Play...

Seen Augeri with Journey 7 times but the last time was lipped. However, still enjoyed the anniversary show very much. Got to here some tunes live that I never thought I would have a chance to. As mentioned earlier, the band was always tight.

I was at the one also.{Brice Jorden Center} It was really good. I dont if that was lipped, that issue wasnt brought up then. I know it was on July 19 th, and They sounded awesome, I had decent seats. We handed out the Cds and were able to get in early. I saw Ross and some dude on the side of the stage working on something. I dont think he appreciated us being there. It was the three hour show with the intermission

Saw him with Journey once in 2001. Awesome show. Steve A. climbed up on a big speaker at the side of the stage, looked out over the crowd, and made eye contact with me and smiled at my sister(who was 10 at the time and a huge Augeri fan). Tres cool.

well ,, i went into it knowing augeri's work ,,, did some homework,,but i will never get these folks(not you loud) that still think its '83,, and they say right before the show.. "man i bet perry smokes tonight , do you think he'll do Oh Sherrie, ...." you say, "uh,, didnt you notice the t-shirt rack when we filed in?, the one that is on your CHEST... perry is not in the band" ,, those folks that havent kept up with music in 15 years are the most disappointed ever!
or you walk into a restaurant in the rock star shirts,, and the waitress says ,, "you going to see journey,, tell steve perry hello for me.." yea yea yea,,the new singers name is ...... soto, what? , soto, uh?,soto.. .. never mind ,, just give me an egg white omlet ... 8)

LOL. I knew it wasn't Perry. Still went. Still kicking myself for missing Perry. I always thought I'd have TIME. Who knew, ya know? I think that was more of it... me kicking me for thinking I'd have plenty of time to get to a concert w/ Perry. (hubby at the time Perry was out didn't do rock concerts... how FU is that??)

I'm just soooo damn glad JSS is in the driver's seat now. Kicks ass, takes numbers, singing that shit the way it needs to be sung!!!

1. October 29, 1998 @ the Orpheum (Boston, MA) - I remember it was far from sold out but walking away thinking SA was pretty good. 1st time I ever saw Journey live, so I was happy.
2. July 6, 2001 @ Tweeter Center (Mansfield, MA) - Not a bad show. This was the Waite/Frampton/Journey show. I remember Journey being decent.
3. July 11, 2003 @ Worcester Centrum (Worcester, MA) - I went because Styx and Journey were on the same bill. I remember Styx was the highlight of that show, and not because I like them better in general. Journey seemed to be going through the motions.
4. August 20, 2005 @ Fleet Boston Pavilion (Boston, MA) - 'nuff said. I even wrote this http://www.journeymusic.com/ontheroad/r ... ?venue=273:
Early on Steve Augeri had some throat problems - none of that existed last night.

I saw JOURNEY last in Cleveland in '98. I thought SA sounded fine and the band was definitely TIGHT. If it was synched then I was 100% fooled.

I do remember being VERY disappointed. I was expecting some NEW material - anything from TBF. It was nothing more than a GH show. Every subsequent tour has been as much and so I've been uninterested.

HOB 2005, Irvine & Greek also 2005. He must've sung okay at the HOB 'cuz it was such a small place, but the overall sound quality was very bad where I stood (close).
