1. October 10 1998 - The Palace Of Auburn Hills, Auburn Hills, MI. He sounded good to me, if he was lip syncing I was fooled. The material from 'Trial By Fire' was good. 'Castles Burning", "One More", "Can't Tame The Lion"
2. June 4, 1999 - Pine Knob Music Theater, Clarkston, MI. See notes above - they played "Girl Can't Help It" it sounded good to me.
3. July 11, 2001 - DTE Energy Music Theater, Clarkston, MI. Sounded kinda winded sometimes, missed a few notes. A Good show, 'Livin' To Do' Was killer.
4. June 12, 2003 - Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, MI. The Classic Rock's Main Event Tour w/ Styx & REO. Not bad, the JLA is horrible for concerts, sound bounces off the rafters.
5. September 24, 2003 - Soaring Eagle Casino, Mt. Pleasant, MI. Long show, 2 songs from 'Red 13', "Precious Time', and the Santana medley. Couldn't tell if he was live or not.

Bottom line, I don't really care if he was lipping or not, as long as the WHOLE band ain't I don't care.

I saw him twice, in Edinburgh and then at Monsters. I go to quite a lot of live gigs and I remember thinking at Edinburgh "bloody hell, this guy sounds too good to be true". Quite prophetic looking back although I had no inkling at the time, of course.

We have attended over forty venues with the second Journey incarnation. Ejected from one and met many fans on the road.

Same shows I attended plus 2000 @ Pine Knob 2003 seems like it was the last year he was on top of his game. 2004 & 2005 both @ Pine Knob he did not sound so good. Especially 2005 show some songs he sounded good others he needed help from Deen not positive if he had help if you know what I mean. Just my observation.

Not what you may think. We refused to sit down and were not given an option to stand on the side. The intoxicated patrons were of priority, they sat behind us. Security was very gracious escorting us to a place to stand... outside the venue.

Sept 28, 2002, Molson Park. Got to see him from the side of the stage, including Lights. Regretablly didn't get to see the whole set, heard other parts as well. Was there working for the Doors as Ray's roadie. People were leaving, but that's only because it was late and cold, and Journey is really not a Harley type band. I thought the band was great and Steve was really good, even though singing in cold is not easy. Very sorry I couldn't get to any other shows, the first few years of the SA era I was on cruise ships so there's no way I could have.

Saw this guy and Journey at the Vegas show, 2001. Yes THAT 2001 DVD show. I thought he was very good. Now come to find out, those weren't the vocals on the DVD. I thought I had this entire Tapegate thing in my back pocket, but something tells me there is more shit to come out.

I saw 'em a few years ago (don't remember the exact year) but it was at the Nissan Pavilion when they toured with Foreigner. It was a pretty good show then, and I think it was 100% live...

I saw them with Styx. I had heard of the "new" guy (Augeri) and wanted to check him out. I didnt like him. The music was tight, but it seemed he was reaching for notes, sounded shaky. We were in an arena. No excuses, plus, he and Neal were fighting over who needed to be louder. It was very obvious the two of them couldnt get on the same page. I was disappointed. I was really missing Perry that night! JSS has rescued my dying thoughts of Journey. I admit, I didn't trust their decision with JSS at first, but like with Augeri, I did my homework, then went and saw him, and I'll always be a follower of JSS no matter where he goes. IF this current arrangement ends, so will my years with Journey.

Augeri live

Postby NCscarab » Sun Dec 31, 2006 10:12 am

I have seen the band with Steve 4 times. The first and best was in 98 in a small venue located in Charlotte,NC. I don't know if it was the size, shape or acoustics of the place but Steve A sounded as good as Steve P did the times I saw him live.I came away from that show really impressed.

The next show was in 2001(I think) and it was an outdoor show also in Charlotte.Jon Waite and Peter Frampton opened and it was a good show although I commented at the time that Steve was very difficult to hear in the mix and just passed it off on the sound tech.

The next show was 2003 in Greenville,SC with REO Speedwagon and Styx and that show was awesome. All 3 bands were great but once again I thought Steves vocals were a bit too low in the mix.

The last show was on the Generations tour in Atlanta, Georgia again at an outdoor event and again I thought Steve was too low in the mix but this time I also thought his voice sounded strained and a little shaky.I still think he was just having an off night or was just the rigors of the road and the long set list on his voice but you never know...it could have been the early stages of his problem.

I guess my whole point is that with the exception of the 98 show( awesome vocals !!) I always came away thinking that the sound tech was really screwing up the sound of the show by keeping the vocals too low.Now I just wonder if that was how the band wanted the sound or if Steve just didn't have the power to make his voice heard...I really don't know.

I still enjoyed Steves tenure with the band and hope he can fully recover and have success in whatever direction his career goes.

Concord 2002 - me and the wife flew over from the UK just for the show - was on too much of a high to give it a realistic evaluation, but have no negative memories.

Kinocti 2004 - Again me and wife flew over especially, thought it was better than the Concord show but a little short and toooo cold. Main memories were of meeting John Cain around the pool and that Neal was on fire during 'Edge of the blade' (never thought I'd get to see that song live)

Edinburgh 2006 - 3rd row - great show and impressed by SA - didn't see any indication of lippin.
Manchester 2006 - 5th row - even better than Edinburgh and still couldn't see any lippin.
Oberhausen 2006 - 2nd row - not as good as the 2 UK shows and Steve seemed to struggle a little more but couldn't seen any lippin.
Lichtenvoorde 2006 - front row - best show of the lot. All the band were on fire and obviously astounded by the crowd responce. Lippometer still not showing any indications.

Didn't see any indication of lippin from were I was situated at any of the European shows, but all were right at the front and so can't say with respect to what was being mixed for the rear of the halls...... or maybe I was just too close to the speakers to hear clearly LOL

The Lichtenvoorde show was one of the best shows I've seen by any band in nearly 30 years, and I must be up to about 500 shows by now.

Deano - I get what you're are saying - he was singing but it was being mixed in with pre-recorded material to a greater or lesser extent depending on how he was hitting the notes.

I think this subject has been done to death and even from the front row I wouldn't stand up in a court and say it wasn't so, just that I didn't get any indication on the night that what was coming out of the PA wasn't all live..than again most of the time i'm watchin Neal so what do i know

Bottom line... great shows and can't wait to see Jeff belting them out in March.

I have the MOR show and to watch Augeri's body language compared with the 2001 Vegas show is scarey. It must have been boring just standing there waving your arms about trying to look convincing, plus shitting your self in case you dropped the mic!!

I saw Augeri and Journey 4 times

2002- Under the Radar tour, @ the Bloomsburg Fair, made me a Journey fan, also my 1st concert

2003- With Styx and REO in Wilkes-Barre, Ross's bass was to loud and drowned out Stevie's vocals

2004- Montage, PA sounded good

2006- with Def Lepp @ Montage, PA absolutely sucked, needed Deen to carry him on some songs

If anyone has a boot of the aforementioned shows please let me know

I saw Journey with SA three times, all in St. Louis:

11/25/1998
7/21/1999
7/27/2001

I went into the '98 show knowing nothing about Steve A., but came out pretty impressed. Of course, '98 and '99 were nothing but greatest hits shows, but still good. In 2001, it was nice hearing some Arrival tracks (Higher Place, Livin' To Do, and To Be Alive Again) and I still thought SA was doing OK, even though I thought his voice was straining a little on a few high notes.

Saw Journey with JSS on 7/21/2006, and thought he did a damn fine job. I really wish the guy who booted that night's Def Leppard show had gotten Journey, as well. Jeff gets better and better on the later boots, as well, in my opinion.

By the way, to Larry and JoePa, would there be any chance you guys would share the 2001 Lubbock and 1999 Camden boots you mentioned?

Thanks.
