Who's Crying Now - MTV 1982

Postby *Laura » Mon Jan 01, 2007 9:27 pm

This is from the same MTV show where Journey played "Separate Ways" as a "new song" (Bionic posted it already)

Sounds awesome...I believe that Schon's solo at the end of the song is to this day one of the best melodic guitar solo's in AOR's history.Brilliant!

Could be 82...However,the list attached to my DVD says "MTV 1983",so that's how I uploaded it.

Could Perry's hairstyle solve the mystery? ...He cut his hair in 1983,so this video could be from '82... :?:

p.s. Mystichealer,I hope you can enjoy a Journey video wherever it comes from...

Man her nose swallows the microphone. Nice blouse she's wearing.

Pretty good singer for a chick.

All kidding aside, cool footage. Don't think I've seen that before.

That's from the 1982 A Day On The Green show. :)

In the infamous Herbie interview, he says that Bill Graham got down on his knees and begged Perry to play at the show. He said, "You're taking food off my family's table!" lol

That's one reason why I find these Day On The Green shows so fascinating, all the behind the scenes stuff that happened before Journey would play them.

From the Herbie interview:

Bill says 'Just do the two stadiums.' Steve's like 'What part of no didn't you understand?' He (Bill) drops to his knees right in front of Steve Perry, clutches his hands in front of his chest, and says, 'Steve, I'm begging you.' And Steve showed, for one time only ever in my whole memory, some teeny, teeny little spark of compassion and empathy, and said, 'Well, if Herbie can figure out how to make it intimate, then I'd do it.' So Bill's like 'Thank you, thank you, thank you!' Bill jumps up 'Thank you, thank you, thank you.' He runs to his Jaguar, hops in, and drives off.

I read that Herbie interview, it's quite lengthy. I was shocked by some of the things that interview implied. I still don't know whether to believe it or whether it was just the ranting of a bitter ex-manager. But I figure that some of it had to have some truth to it. Old Herbie likes to pat hisself on the back for all their success though.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

that brought back some amazing memories! i was at that DOG. if i recall correctly, the journey force had a contest to win an all expenses paid trip to SF to see & meet journey at that show. 10 winners & their guests were flown in, wined & dined at julius' castle, then taken to oakland stadium for the show and meet & greet. herbie had enough clout to boot mayor diane fienstein's party, so we could have the private bay view room at the restaurant! i wonder if the winners are still into journey & what they think of the current situation. just some random thoughts & memories. :)

Interesting stuff, Cyndy. Don't you have access to any of the names of the winners? It would be cool to hear their own stories/experiences and if they still follow today's version of Journey.

It is always neat to hear people's memories of Journey - thanks Cyndy for sharing that. I was never a part of the fan club, heck, I never knew anything except that I loved listening to Journey & esp. SP, but I never learned anything more than his name! I still can't figure out why - what was wrong with me? It would've been neat stuff...maybe, I thought I was too old for that....at 18 - 22 yrs old!! So now I am re-living it all thru the net.

Any time you want to expell some random thoughts or memories of those Journey days, feel free....I for one, would love to hear more.
