Jeff Answers Questions

Postby knox » Wed Jan 03, 2007 1:56 am

I posted some questions at BackTalk and Jeff was king enough to answer them. I am only copying the questions I asked and he answered:

1. What is your favorite song to sing live?

I'll Be Alright Without You - it's got an Al Green vibe to it & I LOVE Al! Looking forward to sharing the stage with him in New Orleans.

2. What is the hardest song to sing live?

La Do Da

3. Do you prefer singing live or in the studio. I have always preferred studio recordings, because the vocals are much more relaxed and not fighting to give volume in a concert setting. What are your feelings?
They both have their perks....as you said, studio is about control, creative & experimental singing, live is about the excitement & energy release in singing. Studio work can be tedious & live work can be strenuous...so we have a tie here, they both have they're ups & downs but bottom line, I'm just grateful I can do this for a living so NO complaints!

4. Do you smoke? If so, do you feel it hampers your voice?

NO SMOKING, no way....no weed, no cigarettes, nothing. I do my best to stay away from it just the same. It is harshly brittle on the vocal cords & assist in damage that occurs from natural wear & tear.

5. If you could do a duet with 2 different singers - a man and a woman, who would they be?

Stevie Wonder & Kelly Clarkson

6. What is your favorite STYLE of music to sing?

Soul/Motown...it's far more challenging than rock or pop which is why I like adding those flavors as often as possible.

7. Cherry, Cola, or mixed Icee?

Cola!

-----------------------------------

Thanks, Jeff!!!!

There was an interesting answer on why he uses "Jeff SCOTT Soto" as well, but since it wasn't my question I didn't bring it here.

I prefer not to answer

Just kidding. I have not been in the studio, but I have seen studio recordings taking place and have asked the same question of different artists.

What I meant when I said "I prefer studio" was that I prefer LISTENING to studio recordings. I have a great technical ear for hearing and listening, but don't have the best singing voice in the world. Which is very frustrating...

Those that can bring it LIVE have an amazing gift and talent. No faking it there. Also, these are the artists I love to listen to from the studio, because it is still "real".

Technology can do a lot, but when you hear Jeff, Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Amy Lee sing live, you know that they are genuine on the studio tracks as well.

Thanks, Jeff!!!!

There was an interesting answer on why he uses "Jeff SCOTT Soto" as well, but since it wasn't my question I didn't bring it here.

Nice,thank you!

As for the use of his full name,I went on BT and read it - pretty funny, indeed (taking advice from someone named "Ing-vay" )
But before reading the answer I thought it was because he wanned to separate himself from another artist named Jeff Soto who is all over the Internet ( a painter I think)...
Without the "Scott",I guess it would have been some confusion going on...

Now how about an extended MelodicRock Q&A?

OK, this thread has me LMAO! Thanks for the giggles! As if commando wasn't enough, but JSS doing a song with Kelly Clarkson. . . . . OMG! Love her and it's not because I happen to live in Burleson! Breakin Away album was my divorce CD. JSS/Journey is my post - divorce celebration music!

Very neat. Thanks, Knox & Jeff...I'll go check out the other Q&As. His answer on Soul/Motown being more challenging than pop/rock seems surprising to me, but then again I don't sing. Maybe, there will be an extended Q&A some time. :)

now think back to the "friends" episode when joey and chandler were fighting over the chair and "saved seat". joey goes back to their apt. and comes
back wearing a shit load of chandlers clothes in multiple layers and was going "commando" in this pants! just a swingin!!

I was wondering if I was the only one who remembered...

[Joey complains that Chandler has hidden his underwear.]
Ross: Okay, um, then, why do you have to wear underwear tonight?
Joey: It's a rented tux, 'kay? I'm not gonna go commando in another man's fatigues.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Joey is wearing several sets of Chandler's clothes.]
Joey: Look at me! I'm Chandler! Could I be wearing any more clothes? Maybe if I wasn't going commando!

Wasn't Friends funny as hell???
