New Van Halen news! Sammy comments

According to Sammy Hagar, Van Halen is confirmed as an inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The next ceremony takes place March 12th at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, and Hagar told the Cleveland Plain Dealer, "Management told me the other day we got in. I'm curious to see if we actually do get inducted. I can't believe we wouldn't, looking at who else is up for it." This year's other nominees include the disco group Chic, the Dave Clark Five, rappers Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, R.E.M., the Ronettes, Patti Smith, the Stooges, and Joe Tex. Of that list, Hagar said, "Certainly R.E.M. deserves to be there. Certainly Patti Smith deserves to be there. The rest is probably just a matter of opinion."

As to whether the members of Van Halen can actually get along while being inducted, Hagar said, "I think it could be ugly. This might be the best one ever! It's what everybody wants. They want to see blows thrown and yelling and screaming and people making fools of themselves and trying to outshine each other. This could be a real comedy, man. This could be a reality series right here." He added, "I don't think it's gonna be a real friendly, beautiful scene... I could go there and jam with them. Ed (Van Halen), Mike (Anthony), Al (Van Halen), and I probably could pull it off, 'cause we just did it (on tour in 2004). We were professional when we went onstage. But you throw Dave (Lee Roth) in that mix, and I just don't see it working. Dave's gonna want it to be all about him. Ed's gonna want it to be all about him. And that's a tough one right there. I'll probably just be sitting over in the corner, cracking up."

The Rock Hall is expected to announce the Class Of 2007 in the next week.

Hagar also told the paper that he doubts the reunion stories with Roth are true. He said, "I'm not saying I don't want a Dave reunion. I think their best bet after this would be to go out with Dave. But I don't see it working. Ed, Wolfie (Van Halen, Eddie's 15-year-old son), Alex, and some new kid would be what I put my money on. That could happen. But Dave and Ed working together? I don't see it in a million years. I know 'em both."

Sammy and Mike Anthony - the only members (ex or otherwise) of Van Halen with any sense whatsoever.

Exactly. The band isn't big enough for those two egos. It tore them apart in 1984...and I don't see it being any different this time.

Of course, the lure of big $$$ might make the difference...who knows.

For me personally, though...who CARES is more like it. Do it, or shut the hell up about it.

Thanks for the post Angie. I always like hearing what Sammy has to say. He's pretty level-headed.

IF they get in is it going to be just DLR, Eddie, Alex, or will it be DLR, Eddie, Alex, Mike and Sammy?

If there is a jam - will it be all five of them? Or just DLR, Eddie, Alex and Mike?

I'd like to see DLR's and Eddies's ego's put aside and just jam - for the fans.

Hell, in the end it's just nice to see a good band get in - not that the RNR HOF really matters in the end anyway.
Oww. My aching tentacles.

The reunion with DLR is probably MORE likely now because Ed and DLR will want to prove Sammy wrong.

Personally,I'd like to see a few DLR era tunes and then a few Hagar era tunes if they even decide to jam. I would rather see the band end on a high note than the reunion joke they are slowly becoming to be.

Message to Eddie: Give the fans what they want and put the ego aside and just perform for the fans and call it a day.

I like that both Sammy and Dave are referring to the impending VH as a possible train-wreck!

Because that's what it is. It's become a joke and a trainwreck.

I'm curious about this statement...what do you guys think. Could this work?

Sure it would work. They could pack an average club. But selling out arenas like the original line-up would? No way in hell.

Yep, I agree with this. I don't see Wolfie and "some new kid" drawing that many people. Well, at least not me. :?

The only way it would work with a new kid would be if they were on a show like CBS's Rockstar. I know it is a reality show, but that show would promote the new kid. But then again some people would be turned off of Van Halen if they resorted to a reality show to get their singer. Still there would be enough people to watch it. They would get all the national advertising to promote the upcoming Tour and Cd. I would do well at least for the initial tour. With Super Nova you can say what you want the cd has undersold, but the Tour sold out or at least almost sold out before the singer was even chosen. A friend of mine hated Lucas for Super Nova bought had already committed money to concert tickets. I razed him that he just bought tickets to see Lucas who he hated......and he prayed Lukas did not when....we even made a bet. So just by being on the show the VH tour would sellout before it began. I think Sammy is hinting that VH may end up resorting to the CBS reality show. But I agree with all of you if VH wants this to really work they need DLR...the only problem is if they bring on DLR and it does not work out with the egos.....VH will turn off even more fans.

I will go on record saying that DLR is the only person that can save Van Halen anymore.Sammy is great and all, but the bad blood between him and Eddie killed that working relationship.Gary was a good lame duck singer but the highlight for the fans was hearing the old DLR era tunes from that lineup.

The only way Van Halen can ever become huge again is with the original lineup but unfortunately Eddie has screwed that dream from happening again.
