Having worked in the medical and health insurance fields all my life, I think it is ridiculous that an insurance company can question a Doctor's opinion. Especially Medicare. What is even more crazy is that I was straight out of high school with no education working for Medicare. Yes, I was one of those people I cuss now. After stepping over to the other side and doing billing for healthcare, I know that it is all a game. It's all about the coding and getting the doctors to say the correct words. (for example, high blood pressure and hypertension are not the same; hypertension will get paid, high blood pressure will not).

It frustrates me to see something like this, you are in pain and suffering, not only because of the disease process, but because you lifestyle has to change and it can all be blamed on your insurance company! That's something worth fighting for on capitol hill!

NJT, I'm surprised you work so much with Medicare being a L&D nurse.

Abitaman, I'm sorry you have to suffer because of this. Hopefully, they have loaded you up with some good drugs! I have always had a lot of compassion for people suffering from stones. Maybe because my mom had them when I was little and it was the first time I ever heard her swear! She said, 'get the F*%K away from me'. We stayed away for quite a while!

Here's the thing. I was a full time L&D nurse for 8 years then I decided to try something different just to add some diversity and make myself more marketable so I started doing home health care per diem. After a year and a half I was promoted from prn visit nurse to branch director so I have now done a flip flop, I am a full time nurse administrator and per diem L&D nurse. My true love is L&D and I will get back to it full time-I am actually working on my master's degree and in a year and a half or so I will be a Certified Nurse Midwife and I can't wait!!!!

That's awesome! Good luck on your Masters! My goal right now is for a Master's to do anesthesiology. It will take a while, though.

Yes, as Home Health you do deal ALOT with Medicare. Not fun!

I just wanted to send a little 'Bless You' to any and all home healthcare nurses (and any nurse for that matter!). My mother has been fighting cancer the last four years. Though I have 3 other siblings and my mother is rarely left alone, I can not begin to tell you what high esteem I have for the nurse that visits my mother several times a week. She was defintely heaven-sent and has eased my mother many times during difficult situations.

You have a very difficult job and I am thankful for the ones that I have been priviledged to deal with the last several years.

Big hugs to you all!

It is comments like this that truly make our jobs rewarding-this is when we know we have made a difference.

Abitaman wrote:Hey everyone, it the day after the Kidney stone/hospital. I STILL have the stone. The could not get it out, and the doctor said he just couldn't cut me open when there are still other options open. Cutting me open would have been major surgery with a long recoup time. I have school to start back to here in a couple of weeks. So he has set up an appointment for me Wed. in Nashville with a doctor who can do laser and lip. So maybe a week after seeing this doctor I can get it out. Please pray that this comes to an end soon.

Sorry I'm so late in this thread Eric. From the topic "to cut or not to cut" I thought you were considering getting circumsized :D Anyway, I'll say a prayer for ya.

They played Star Wars. Went up me with a laser and sliced into little pieces. Mine are from to much calcium and salt, and not enough water. This is my fourth or fifth in 10 years. But only the second one to have to go into the hospital and have removed. This was a big one and got hung up on the scar tissue of the one they had to pull out years ago-ERIC

as i understand, its not calcium that we ingest, its what the body produces.. so you still need calcium substitutes and lots of water, is that true?

Not to sure on that. You maybe right. I was told to cut back on dairy, milk, etc... and salt. I was pretty much under the influence of a pain medicine when I was talking to the doctor, so............
