Soulful "Everly Brothers"....(imo)

Postby TRAGChick » Sat Jan 06, 2007 9:04 am

Hey all....

\~/HAPPY FRIDAY!!\~/

I've talked about this before....I heard Seal's "Love's Divine" on the drive home...it got me thinking:

Wouldn't it be cool if ~ IF ~ Steve was to come back, he'd choose this song?

Just read the words......IMO it just kind of "mirrors" what he's said he's been thru over the years.....

Seal can harmonize in BG; then they can do the Chorus in harmony...(like the "Everly Brothers" sound....)

I dunno....it'd be so interesting, at least....

Thoughts?

Love's Divine ~ (Seal)

Then the rainstorm came, over me
And I felt my spirit break
I had lost all of my, belief you see
And realized my mistake
But time through a prayer, to me
And all around me became still

I need love, love's divine
Please forgive me now I see that I've been blind
Give me love, love is what I need to help me know my name

Through the rainstorm came sanctuary
And I felt my spirit fly
I had found all of my reality
I realize what it takes

'Cause I need love, love's divine
Please forgive me now I see that I've been blind
Give me love, love is what I need to help me know my name

Oh I, don't bet (don't bend), don't break (don't break)
Show me how to live and promise me you won't forsake
'Cause love can help me know my name

Well I try to say there's nothing wrong
But inside I felt me lying all along
But the message here was plain to see
Believe me

'Cause I need love, love's divine
Please forgive me now I see that I've been blind
Give me love, love is what I need to help me know my name

Oh I, don't bet (don't bend), don't break (don't break)
Show me how to live and promise me you won't forsake
'Cause love can help me know my name

Love can help me know my name.

I'm not familiar with this tune but I know that Perry has mentioned a few times before that he's a fan of Seal's voice and would like the chance to sing with him.

BINGO! LOL

Seriously....the song is amazing....Seal's voice is VERY reminiscent of Steve's. Check it out, if you can. 8)

Nora, did you read my recent post on PV about this song & SP? (thread about songs that remind you of SP) About a year ago I was driving in the car & this song came on (never heard it before) and I was floored. It SOOOO reminded me of SP, as if it was SP singing his own words! I love this song! I have the SEAL CD and I can totally picture SP singing his songs if he were ever gonna do that.
I didn't know at the time I first heard this song that SP liked SEAL & even did a bit of "Crazy" in a FTLOSM concert. There is definitely the soulfulness in both of these singers.
(okay, just went over to watch the video -- ugh, I don't like it - seems too much like a t.v. commercial. It really bugs me when a great song gets wrecked by a sub par visual. It would have more feeling if they didn't put crying people shots in there - it's implied already in the song - showing those people makes it melodramatic...)

Well I think it's a brilliant idea. I've never heard the song before, thanks for posting that. Very soulful, Perry would do that song great, and Seal in the background, brilliant.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Here's my latest fave video by my other fave band, Keane (just the singer is shown in this particular video) and SP had mentioned once before that he listened to them (wonder if he still does?):

http://youtube.com/watch?v=TM1kqqTec8g

They've had pretty good videos except for a couple before this one that were "way too Hollywoodish" and dopey starring the actor, Giovanni Ribisi. The fans responded & hopefully they listened. BTW, they will be on the Ellen show on Jan. 26 and they are nominated again for a Grammy (although, I don't care too much for the song nominated - they have so many better ones).

Nora, tell me what you think of his voice...he has that choirboy angelic soaring voice that reminds me of SP in the early years.

Yeah, Keane....they're good. 8)

His voice does have that quality, but with "darker" tones to it....not as "soaring" as Steve...but then, who is...?

Here's the vid and song that caught my ear...and I think this is the song that got Steve into their music, too 8)

Very nice melodic structure, with just a touch of "off balance".... Enjoy!

I know what you're talking about with the Seal thing at FTLOSM...but it was "Don't Cry", not "Crazy"

The "Don't be so hard on yourself" part that Steve does happens at 3:30 into the song:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=K2HjJd3qRmU

hmmm...he didn't do that song at Poughkeepsie, but did it the night or 2 after, in NJ (which is the audio boot I have)...

...I wonder why...? :?

:) I too appreciate you posting Love's Divine. When I first heard that song I too was in my car and I pulled over in traffic...shut the car off and sat there in utter shock, it moved me so much! Later I went and found that cd....played it over and over!

What a beautiful song and I liked the video too, the part where Seal blows out a heavy breath...sometimes when you are so sad..that is what one does..wow, this kind of caps off my day, thanks Nora...neat idea about Steve P. I hope someone takes this idea to him.

Nora, he does sound kinda reminiscent of Steve in that, I'd like to hear SP do that one too. :)

A couple more comparisons: Crazy

Seal

I have to say I think I prefer Jeff's jacked up versions to the original, more guitar and drums just add to it IMO. :)

Thanks for correcting me, Nora...I got mixed up with JSS & "Crazy". Maybe, I'm just being a downer now, but I think it is all past the time for SP to do anything like a duet or possibly anything solo. It just seems (sadly) that too much time has passed now...maybe, he will continue to pop into the studio every once in a while to do background singing on other's songs.

Here are a couple more of my fave songs of Keane's (B sides):

http://youtube.com/watch?v=fUfqIk-9OdA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgF_8ykzSJA

Their music comes from the heart, they are very sincere and that is what I like about them...they are very sweet down-to-earth guys. Plus, they are incredibly intelligent well-read guys - heck, they read obscure novels on tour (the Bad Dream song is based on a poem by Yeats). They majored in things like Art History, The Classics. The singer, Tom has one of the best voices in music today, but yes, nowhere near SP's.
