This is the way I see it. Journey has been pissed on and passed over many times for a variety of reasons. First, music came first. They weren't an "act." They didn't wear makeup, promote sex and drugs or have some other non-music related characteristic. They were all about music and music only. Their lyrics were seemingly "uncool" since they talked about life and its "journey" rather than sexual bliss, drug trances or being a "tough guy." They took a simple concept, making great music, and excelled at it. They combined harmonies, soaring vocals, and second to none songwriting with musicianship and became the most popular band in the U.S. For THAT, they were hated and dismissed as "corporate rock." To the naysayers I say "F#ck You" and to the RnR HOF I say "Please keep Journey OUT." Some of the acts that HAVE been inducted make your "shrine" more reminiscent of a rehab center for shitty music than what I assume it is actually intended for. Journey not being there is not in the least bit a slight. That place has long been a joke.

The Sex Pistols, Blondie, Ramones, U2 have all made there mark, whether you like them or not. I think it is silly to knock the choices based on disdain for Journey being over looked or because you are simply not a fan. So many call the RnR HoF a joke, but I wonder if their tune would change if Journey were inducted.

And now they want to expand to let hip hop artists in.

In the end, it's all subjective.

I don't agree with everything you said but you're absolutely right about Rush. I think it's the biggest travesty that they're not in there. They've influenced a ton of bands and not just in the progressive rock genre, but just in general. Heck, even a lot of the bands dating back to the grunge/alternative era were influenced by them.
NealSchonFan53 wrote:Journey has a lot of influence, credited as being the first band to:
-Create the power ballad
-Consistently use the double-bass drum
-Have their own sponsor
-Have a video screen on stage
-Have their own video game
I'm positive there's more but I can't remember right off.
In terms of influence though, Boston deserves to be in way before Journey or many other bands. If it wasn't for Boston there would've been no melodic arena rock, or at least it would be a remarkably different scene, and that would've drastically affected music. Sure they only had one critically acclaimed album, but that one album alone practically defines classic rock within itself.
Once Boston gets in too, it's only a matter of time before it's Journey's time to shine.
