who wins...

go Buckeyes...but it could be ripe for an upset... Howver, Troy Smith is the GAME BREAKER, ala Vince Young. OSU is 35-31

I'm giving Flordia some meaningless touchdowns after the game has been decided... aka Michigan game...where The buckeyes were up by 17 points...but only won by 3...

If it weren't for a bad "helmet to helmet" call, OSU might not have even won the game. Not sure what game you were watching. The score was VERY indicative of how close the game was.

Gotcha. Quick recap. With OSU leading 35-31 with just over 6 minutes left, Michigan was called for an "iffy" helmet to helmet call on 3rd and long. So, rather than punting, OSU got a first down and eventually scored a touchdown to go up 42-31. Had that call NOT been made, who knows what might have happened. Great game.

If I remember right...was OSU answering a Michigan Touchdown from their previous possession??
from being 35-24 to 35-31---or did I not remember that wrongly? Anyway point being.. That was a great game to listen too on the radio!! and I remember the announcers having a fit with the call too....

For a lot of the game it went from Ohio State being up by 2 scores (not close) to being up by 1 score (close) so arguments can be made either way....

but there is the fact that Ohio State opened up a 2-score lead in the first place plus they led wire-to-wire.

Regardless of whether they led "wire to wire" they MIGHT have been a "no call" away from losing the game. However, rather than letting the players decide the outcome, the zebras took the game's defining moment and acted on it. The call wasn't good OR bad. It could have gone either way. Personally, I'd have rather had the players decide the outcome, not the refs. And 2 scores IS close in a 42-39 game.

Dude, it was a helmet-to-helmet shot on a qb who was going OOB.
Michigan got away with it all year up to that point.

That is a personal foul that's gotta be called.

Agree, though. Without taking that penalty, Michigan stops that drive that put Ohio State back up by 2 scores.

Agreed. Michigan covered the spread, and ultimately, that's all I really cared about.

Here's a decent take on the whole situation (obviously from a Michigan fan, though).

"Let's talk about that penalty for a second. Troy Smith was scrambling out of the pocket. Near the sideline, he is hit by two Michigan defenders. One makes helmet-to-helmet contact, and that's why he's flagged. Helmet-to-helmet contact has been a point of emphasis for officials since last year, but... was it a dangerous and intentional foul? In this circumstance, I don't think so. I think if you'd had a running back carrying the ball on that play, the referee might have kept his flag in his pocket. I don't fault the referee for making the call, but penalties are judgment calls, and at such a crucial point in the game, maybe you decide, "let's not have the outcome of the game decided on a penalty". Granted, I think OSU had a few questionable calls go against them as well, like that roughing-the-center penalty when Michigan was punting the ball. But that one against Michigan was a potential game-changer."

ah HHHAAA!!!

Now we find out what the hell it was all about. :)

And I'm gonna rip something off of Conversationpiece here in the Bobby Knight thread responding to the Michigan fan cyring foul on the lack of leniancy on that very incidental mere love tap of a helmut-helmut hit.
If he'da tapped him any harder, Troy Smith's probably still in traction right now.
Sorry, I feel no sympathy for a team who's defense under coordinator Ron English had clearly been coached up to hit qbs this year anywhere at any and all costs, taking advantage of the fact that MI gets more partial officiating than any team in the NCAA.
No doubt that guy did not have to hit Troy Smith in the head.

I think OSU. But, I heard on ESPN radio today "5 of the last 6 H. Trophy winners to play in a National Championship the same year, lost" Not sure about that. But, that's according to Dan Patrick on ESPN Radio.

Since I'm not much of a college football fan, I only watched a little bit of the game and it was 7-7 when I went to bed. I was not only surprised that Florida won but that they really dominated the game. Congrats to Gator fans! Now I hope the Colts do the same thing to the Ravens and shock them also.

I'm not sure the Colts winning would be much of a "shock" to anyone! The reality is that the Ravens are a 3 point favorite, which the home team almost always is in the NFL (assuming the two teams playing are similarly talented teams)! In other words, it's basically a "pick 'em" game. I'm someone who thinks defense ALWAYS wins in the playoffs, so I think the Ravens will actually win this game, even though I don't think they have much of an offense!

This just proves 3 things to me:

1) Troy Smith should be stripped of the Heisman
2) The Champ game canNOT be dragged out this far. Ohio State's almost 2 months out from their last game, FL has had 2 games since OSU last teed it up.

3) Ditch this bogus unbowl that is the "BCS Championship Game (christ  )" and go back to the title game rotating between the Rose, Fiesta, Sugar, and Orange every 5th year and clean it all up the 3rd, latest.

Urban Meyer did a terrific job this year with Ron Zook's recruits.

WOW talk about not caring about this game... that would be THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY--- they peaked with the script ohio 15 minutes before kick off... :)
Troy Smith's NFL paycheck just went from 50,000,000 to 20,000,000 dollars or less in just one game... He looked horrible, was flat and had no passion until it was way too late...
